Noteworthy Post-Holiday Sales

family christmas photo pajamas

On me: Burt’s Bees pjs (old print), J.Crew slippers, headband // On Nori: Target PJs 3T, headband

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday, however it may have looked for you this year. For Christmas, a few gifts I loved include a personalized house portrait of our new home (the seller does pet portraits, too!), a shipment of some of the best dairy free cookies we’ve tried (they even share their recipes!), plus some cookbooks to inspire meals in the new year. My favorite new additions include the Filipino Instant Pot cookbook + Ina Garten’s cookbook, both of which have some drool-worthy but simple looking recipes that I can’t wait to try!

Nori was thrilled to unwrap her banana from Santa – how I adore the pure innocence and joy of little ones. As for Nick, I ended up gifting him the Theragun as recommended by many of you and it’s been providing daily enjoyment already! FYI, the pulses are more intense than I expected even at the lowest setting, but he’s a fan.

We’re laying low at home for the new year, enjoying the last of the Christmas decorations before they get packed up in a few days! There’s some good post-holiday deals going on, so I wanted to share a few highlights if you’re shopping.

Uniqlo

The deal: Cold weather layers & thermals on sale.

  • Fluffy yarn jacket – Everyone in my family has and loves this cozy layering piece (mens; kids; more womens colors).
  • Seamless down short coat nearly 50% off. See it on me in xs. Lightweight and very warm. Looks very short on the model but is a regular length coat on someone petite, with a number of functional pockets.
  • Ultra Light Down coat – for those in a semi-cold climate and don’t need a super warm coat like the one listed directly above. True to its name, this one is very light but still decently warm, and is packable using the small included baggie. My mother in law has it for her Boston visits and loves it
  • Heattech scoop neck tee – I have this in xs for layering under pretty much all my regular tops.
  • Mens Ultra Warm Down Coat – Nick has this coat in black and loves it – it’s the warmest coat he owns and at under $100 is a serious bargain.

Hi Jean, I noticed that you got your Lady Coat in 0P, whereas in the past, your older coats were a 00P. I’m 5’1 and 98 lbs. I do like to layer in the winter, and I don’t like my sleeves too short. Not sure if the 0P would be better than the 00P or if it would be too big. Any ideas?

    Thanks so much!

Can you do a post on how to dress for zoom meetings? Bright colors? Patterns? Hair up or down? Make-up? etc, I have seen other taller women wear big earrings or statement necklaces on Zoom which stands out, but does that work for petite women? Also are high neck tops better? Is a blazer a bad idea? thank you!

Hi Julie! I usually wear a nursing tank under my regular tops and sweaters so it’s really easy to lift the outer layer up and then pull the nursing cami down.

Here are two options that are my staples – this H&M cami is not padded, but this Target cami does have padding.

I love that Nori received a banana for Christmas! My littles always received tiny presents as well…and the thrill in small things is the best Christmas gift of all. You are doing a lovely job with your sweet babies!

    Hi Jean,
Thanks for another great post! I’ve been following you for a couple of years now and since we are essentially the same size your recommendations and tips have become invaluable to me! I’ve also enjoyed several of your recipe postings too!
Just wondered on sizing for the BR mock neck sweater in this post. When I clicked on the link to see on you in a previous post you show that you are wearing XS. Is this XS petite or regular XS? Just asking because this year some of Banana Republic sweaters are a shorter length and in petite seem to be almost too short.
Thanks again for all the time and effort you put into your posts.
Happy New Year to you and your beautiful family!

Hi Kathy, thank you for your kind note and for all of your support over the years! It means a lot.

The BR mockneck sweater is a regular XS – I noticed that sometimes retailers, like BR, introduce regular sizing before petites so when I ordered the sweater petite was actually not yet available. Sometimes that’s a perk to waiting – more sizing options! I can’t speak to this exact one in petites unfortunately, but I have also noticed some of the petite sweaters I’ve tried on from BR this year have been shorter in length like you said, so that’s why sometimes I don’t mind getting the regular sizing because you can just cuff the sleeves or do a half tuck on the sweater! I hope this helps and happy new year to you as well x
