Narrow Calf Suede Boots + Weekend Sales

slim narrow calf over the knee boots

Sam Edelman boots sz 5 (code WINTERSAM30 for extra 30% off; also sold at Century 21, Shoes.com, and Amazon), H&M skirt 0 (runs small), Persun sweater (Note: only order under “Prime” for fast shipping; fits small like an xxs/xs petite)

Every few years or so (yes, its that rare!), I come across a pair of perfectly slim boots and want to shout ’em from the rooftops for fellow narrow-calved ladies. Usually they’re on the pricey side (designer brands tend to fit slimmer) or they’re made of imitation suede fabric, so I’m especially excited to share a genuine suede pair at an awesome price. They’re currently FULLY stocked starting in 5 (won’t last long) and are on extra sale this weekend with free shipping and returns. Scroll to the bottom of this post for my detailed review of these boots!

weekend sales

First up, some notable sales going on this long weekend!

Sam Edelman
The deal: Take extra 30% off sale items with code WINTERSAM30.
In addition to the slim calf boots reviewed in this post, also check out these styles available in small sizes:

  • Karlee ankle bootie ($63 after discounts) – Chic, lower block heeled pointed bootie. Nordstrom and Amazon have a few sizes left in caramel for a marginally lower price. Note “Golden caramel” and “camel” on different sites are actually the same color – a light shade of tan.
  • Ludlow slingback kitten heels ($54 after discounts) – classic pointed slingback in tons of colors. Check Shopbop for how they look modeled on the feet.

H&M
The deal: Free shipping + 10% off $50, 20% off $100, 30% off $200 with code 3299

  • Jersey turtleneck: I wear this basic so much, I had to get a backup. Try it w/ this elastic waist skirt
  • Small waisted skirts: Their current size 0 fits a 24″ waist, sometimes smaller. I recently picked up this tan stretch mini in 0 and this plaid mini in 2, both of which fit snugly on me.
  • Petite pieces: Online only, there’s a few “hidden” pieces in petite sizing! Such as this gorgeous draped velvet dress, these flare jeans, these high rise skinny jeans in 10 colors, and this tweed jacket (in red only) just to name a few! Their 0P should fit smaller than most 00P in American brands.
  • Affordable outerwear: check my recent blog post for reviews!
  • Mommy or Daddy & Me tops: In sizes 2-4 months & up, to adults. How cute are the leopard or stripes?
  • Maternity / nursing and baby: I live in their nursing tanks and Nori lives in these side-snap onesies (easy on and off) as under layers. I usually size up for her since 100% cotton also shrinks in the dryer. I also love their cozy baby bear suits which come in multiple fabrics and colors!

Nike
The deal: Use code FIT2019 to take 20% a large selection of sneakers and clothes, ending 1/19!
I got the Odyssey React to try (reviews say runs small). Nordstrom is also having a sale on a large selection of Nike shoes, including a temporary 25% off markdown on my favorite lightweight sneakers (go up half a size)!

Macy’s
The deal: Special pricing and deals this long weekend!

  • Petite faux fur trim poncho (also in regular) – A reader raved about this one (thanks, Alison)!
  • Printed crewneck sweater in petite or regular. Such fun prints like bows, dots, and pups!

WHBM
The deal: 30% off full priced items with code 71653. Shop their petite collection here.

J.Crew Factory + J.Crew
The deal: 50% off Factory and 25% off Regular

  • It looks like there’s now a factory version (“Ruby”) of the J.Crew Cameron pants I raved about as pants with no waist gap! Similar to the Cameron pants, the factory Ruby pant reviews say they run very small, which is good news for extra petite ladies who can never find pants that fit.

Express
The deal: 40% off

Kristie Boot Review

On to these shining stars ~ these are sleek, stretch suede over the knee boots with a walking-friendly kitten heel. The very slim calves (11″ circumference with stretch) hug my lower legs, which rarely happens! Short zippers at the inner ankles are helpful to tug down the hems of jeans that ride up. Adjustable ties at the back opening that you can hide by tucking into the boot. Size-wise, I found these to fit true to size in the foot. If you are between sizes and have narrow feet, maybe size up due to the pointed toe.

Measurements of a size 5 (note, measurements may shift with the shoe size): 4″ across ankles, 5.5″ across calves, 21″ shaft height, 6.5″ across top opening when ties are snugly tied.

Below, I wanted to show how these boots fit: 1) against bare legs, 2) over jeans, and 3) over tights. The black is classic while the grey (pictured at the top of this post) is a pretty shade of taupe-grey. If you have trouble finding narrow calf boots, these are worth getting in both colors!

H&M jersey turtleneck XS, J.Crew skirt (old), SE boots

Trying on LOFT stitchy sweater xxs petite on sale!, J.Brand crop jeans 24, SE boots

Black shoes against black jeans, leggings, or tights are subtle ways to rock the over the knee boot. The tall suede shaft adds an extra layer of warmth, and makes legs look long and lean!

black skinny calf boots kitten heel for petite women

H&M turtleneck xs, H&M skirt 0 (runs small; 24″ waist), LOFT tights S, SE boots

Since the suede is stretchy, I didn’t have to use the zipper nor undo the back ties to get the boot on and off. This leads me to think that if you wanted a lower shaft boot or even a below the knee boot, a cobbler could potentially cut some length off the shaft (removing the ties altogether) and refinish the top opening.

Here’s a few other retailers that carry this boot:
Amazon – size 5 and up in Black (price varies for each size)
Century 21 – sizes 6 and up in Black & Gray
Shoes.com – sizes 6 through 8.5 in Black

Hi Jean, I got a black pair per your recommendation and absolutely love the way they fit, but the ones I got from their website are faux suede. Do they have different materials for the Kristie? I was hoping to find genuine leather ones.

June – that is so strange! The website says “suede,” and my boots also say suede. I had also asked the sales associates about both colors to double check but maybe i was misinformed…how unfortunate if that’s the case! May I ask where on your boots or packaging does it say the material content and what does it say that it’s made of?

I think it says suede on the Sam Edelman website, but when I looked on other websites like Nordstrom for the same pair of boots, it says
Textile upper/synthetic lining and sole. Also on Century 21 it actually states that it’s Stretch faux suede upper.

Omg! That’s unfortunate. I just looked it up and some sites like Lord & Taylor also say suede so I wonder if there were two versions of this boot. That would be very misleading if the store associates and website say suede when its not. Did you find somewhere inside your actual boots or on the box where it says material content?

I actually couldn’t find any actual wordings that says one way or another on the actual boot itself.

Hi Jean! How is the color of the BP sweater. It looks like a light tan in your photo but Nordstrom calls the color “Grey Paloma”. Thanks!

Thanks Jean. Have you ever tried Solemani boots? They are made for someone with a narrow calf and are generally 12″ circumference. They have a lot of different styles and seemed well made to me. I rarely look at other boot brands now, given that these are available!

I’m looking to buy some new boots. While I’d love to get both styles, for now I’ve been trying to decide between getting over-the-knee boots or knee-high boots. Does one get more wear than the other for you? Would you consider over-the-knee boots workplace appropriate? Would appreciate your thoughts. 🙂

    • Jean | Extra Petite wrote:

Hi Kristina! Sorry for the delayed reply. Personally, I actually find over the knee boots to be a lot more elongating and flattering on my shorter legs. But they are definitely not workplace appropriate (in my opinion, at least!) unless you work somewhere very casual or fashion-oriented.

  10. I totally get your point of buying beautiful boots (or other items actually) when they hit that perfect fit for a petite! Love the black/white outfits you show in this blogpost. Very classy, timeless and awesome! Love, Lieske

Hi Jean – I have slim calves too! You should check out Coach and Four boots in the Ilema style. DSW has them but not in my size 🙁 they run a tiny bit small for me, so you might be able to get the size 6 which is in stock.

I searched forever for a full leather riding boot, with no elastic stretch paneling in the shaft. These were perfect and the leather was stiff enough to stand upright but not uncomfortable while on. All the reviews confirmed the 12″ calf circumference and I check daily now to see if they have my size in stock. I am keeping my fingers crossed my size will come back in stock.

Do you listen to podcasts? I found the “Articles of Interest” series on 99% invisible a good listen for those of us that love clothes/fashion and shopping. Especially the episodes on baby clothes, pockets, and blue jeans. It’s a bit sobering though.

I do! I’ve listened to the pockets episode only in that series and to be honest I don’t think I quite understood what their point was, haha (was distracted and had my hands full with squirmy baby) but will have to go back and give the other episodes a listen.

Hi Jean, do you have any suggestions of how to shop for petite items for us gals on amazon. I’m looking for clothing more than shoes because it’s easier to shop. I never know where to start….it’s very overwhelming and I don’t know what the quality is like. Typically the ones from overseas are a hit and miss I heard….thanks!! Love you post 😊

    Posted 1.20.19 Reply

Hi Kerry – I find it SUPER hard to find winners on Amazon in terms of petite-friendly clothes. Their sizing filters in the search feature are not easy nor accurate to use, and their inventory levels are always changing (sometime Prime is available, sometimes Prime isn’t for certain sizes). If you accidentally order when Prime is out of stock, you could end up waiting months for the item to be shipped from overseas. Sometimes they update the fit or change the quality quietly, and readers order something I post, receive something very different and are disappointed.

THat being said, thank goodness for Prime free shipping and returns (when it is available for certain items) for risk free trials. My only tip is to comb through the reviews and don’t be deterred at first glance if something has low reviews, since sometimes it might mean the item is petite friendly (and customers who aren’t petite are disappointed with a small or short fit, and leave it a row rating – like the case with this black sweater!).

    Hi Jean,

Wondering if you’ve ever tried the Stuart Weitzman Lowland boots and wanted to know how they compare to sizing compared to these Sam Edelman boots? I have the same problem with finding tall suede over the knee boots as well because my calves are too skinny. Would love to hear your opinion! Thanks!

She does own the Lowland boots – I remember seeing them in some of her posts. Maybe try searching for them in the search bar on her blog? I don’t own them so can’t comment. Good luck.

HI Donna, the Lowland boots are a beautiful boot and similar in terms of the stretch suede shaft, but also pretty different. It’s a totally different price point and the stretch suede feels nicer on the Lowlands with a nicer lining. The foot area is completely flat and I find it to run half size big – I’m usually a 5 to 5.5 in shoes, and can do a 4.5 to 5 in the Lowlands. The calf area on my lowlands are actually a little bigger than these Sam Edelman boots in the same size – you can see all the measurements for the Lowlands here: https://www.extrapetite.com/2015/10/fall-casual-layers-stuart-weitzman.html

It was better than I expected – a good weight and I LOVE the petite-friendly shorter fit. But there is no care or material composition tag! I hand washed it in cold water and laid flat to dry so we’ll see how it holds up with wears and washes.
