Soft Jersey Drape Pants + Black Cropped Blazer

Boston style blogger, Extra Petite shares how she styles soft jersey drape pants, a double ruffle tee, and a black cropped blazer.

Express drape pants xxs petite (current version), Steve Madden sandals 5.5 (similar),
Express tee xsp c/o (similar) + cropped blazer 00p c/o, Mansur Gavriel tote, Chanel bag

This outfit is a little different from what I usually gravitate towards, in terms of the slightly trendier silhouette and darker, moodier color scheme. I love how everything came together, though, in a look that still feels tailored and very much like my own style!

I’m partnering with Express petites today to share a few finds available in extended sizing like xxs / 00p (finally!), and are currently fully in stock! This might be my first time trying a peg leg-style trouser – it’s a cross between the slim ankle pants that I usually wear, and the baggy harem pants that I’ll reserve only for MC Hammer. When cut just subtlety loose in a “relaxed” fit, the result is a comfortable pair of soft pants that you’ll want to live in all day.

Olive drape pants

These drape pants are made in a stretchy, machine-washable jersey fabric that’s on the thinner side, and feels cool in the summer heat. They have an elasticized waistband that’s a touch loose on me, but as with many of my bottoms lately, a sash tie waist belt comes to the rescue. The length hits right by my ankles so won’t require hemming on fellow shorties, even with flats on (see the end of this post)! I also love how these pants are styled on the model, with a cropped black turtleneck and bomber jacket.

Measurements: xxs petite is 13″ across the waistband when un-stretched, with a 26″ inseam.

This is the same double ruffle tee that I purchased in white a while back and featured in this recent post. The frill sleeves add a hint of femininity, while the black color keeps it feeling edgy. Note I’m around 5′ tall and the top is the right length on me when untucked, so the petites might be a little short on taller ladies.

Below, I also wanted to show how this outfit works with low, casual slide sandals (similar) for an afternoon of walking around town. Nick kept complimenting this look, which tells me branching out once in a while is not a bad thing!

I love this outfit! You look so classy in it! I actually have a very similar pair of pants, so I love the inspiration on how to style them. Although, I'm going to look into maybe getting this pair as well because I love the length.

I love those pants. I'm wondering how they would look on a more voluptuous petite. When you're size is 10P and not 00P, jersey can cling to lumps and bumps.

Hi Annika! I included the measurements up above … the waist of the xxs petite measures 13" across, so will be loose at your nautural waist (may fit better lower near your hips). I have the same waist measurement as you and I used the sash belt to tighten up the waist area.

Hi there! Personally I think these might be a little too trendy for a professional office given the slouchier silhouette. I picture them more at more creative business fields like advertising, etc. I could be wrong, though!

Hi Danielle! So I just measured the petite and they are about 26" at the inseam for xxsp, and probably increase slightly as the waist sizes go up. Since you're over 4" taller than me, I'd probably recommend the regular sizing! I find their regular waist sizing to run bigger than petites though, so maybe size down on the waist if you're in between two sizes.

Hi Judy, thanks for the feedback! Hmm … so Express sizing can vary quite a bit, but for these pants in particular, I just measured the xxs petite and the waistband is 13" across when lying flat and un-stretched. It stretches another inch or two comfortably. The inseam on these are 26" so if that's too short for you, maybe try regular sizing (but I would definitely go down to xxs with regular sizing, since reg usually runs bigger than petites)

Hi Serena! So the pants are a polyester / spandex blend and have a more fluid "slinky" feel, if that makes sense. It feels very different from cotton, and is not a material that wrinkles easily (from my experience so far!).

Thank you for another great outfit Jean, I've been looking for this type of pant! I'm curious, would you wear it to work? I work in a business/business-casual office and don't like to wear blazers, so my normal ensemble consists of ankle pants or skirts and blouses. How would you style a sash belt pant so it is office appropriate? Thanks!
