Casual Uniform // Flattering dark legging jeans

Express coat xxs, high waist legging jeans 00 short, slouchy sweater xxs c/o, Sam Edelman boots,

I’m bummed that our holiday week with family is coming to an end, but am so grateful that we got to celebrate it with both sets of our parents! This was one of my favorite simple outfits from the week, topped with a coat borrowed from my mom and scarf borrowed from my mother in law. It’s funny when I help myself to pieces on the coat rack, they don’t recognize their own items and marvel at how they also own something “extremely similar” when they see it on me ; )

For casual outfits, these legging jeans are a staple – the higher rise and slender legs are super flattering and slimming from all angles, and you can choose short, regular, or long inseams (also available in petite). They have more stretch than regular jeans, and minimal whiskering / fading if you want a true dark blue skinny jean. Note the 26.5″ inseam on the “short” is a tad long on me and goes 1 inch past my ankles. And if you’re debating between petite or short, the petite inseam is usually about half to one inch longer than the short.

In the dismal and gloomy wintertime, one of my favorite, more subtle ways to shine is by wearing radiant colors like winter white. I reviewed this belted wool blend coat (also in burgundy or in tweed, both on major sale) in a recent blog post while the ivory was still fully stocked, so hope a few of you were able to pick it up! I got it for my mom, who’s an inch or two taller than me and an XXS regular was perfect. As I mentioned before, the fit is very slim for regular sizing, and the sleeves hit about two inches past my wrists.

Jean halp!! I work in Boston as well and am perplexed by what footwear to pair with trouser pants on snowy winter days. I haven’t found any solution that will keep me from slipping and falling that doesn’t make me tuck in my pants so I look like a pirate.

I did buy the Sam EDELMAN rain booties to pair with skirts and tights but they are not warm enough for the snowy slushy days.

Hi Jean, thank you for the review. I would like to try these Express jeans, but am not sure whether I should get a regular or petite pair. You said a short regular ones have shorter inseam than petite ones, but 26.5 inseam would still require hemming on me. If either case I would need to get them hemmed, which pair, between a short regular and a petite, would you recommend?
Also, where is the scarf from? It’s very pretty!

Hi Lane! The petite styles are supposed to have a rise that’s a little more proportionate for a petite frame, but to be honest I’ve ordered both short and petite express jeans before in the same exact styles to compare and could not find a difference other than the inseam length. So if you plan on getting them hemmed anyways, the half an inch should not make a difference between short or petite. With all jeans, though, I do recommend washing & drying at least once before hemming in case they shrink a little in length.

The scarf is my mother in laws and unfortunately I couldn’t find a brand!

Thanks for featuring this coat again. I was able to order the coat in tweed today for a steal. Originally $228, it is on sale for $90 plus additional 30% off, and qualifies for free shipping. So I paid only $69!

Hi Jane, thanks for the suggestion! It’s too bad a lot of these styles sell out of sizes quickly and become no longer available, otherwise I would definitely do more detailed comparison posts.
