Spring reviews: plaid sheath dress, petite culotte pants

express plaid sheath dress petite work outfit

Express dress xxs regular (also in petite) on sale!, M.Gemi heels sz 35.5 also in sale colors (my review; use JEAN50 for $50 a first order), phone case

Happy almost Friday and Easter weekend! There’s a lot of great sales going on, including a big sale at Express which (finally) includes my white ruffle dress featured here! I updated my blog post to include measurements, for fit reference. I’d highly recommend that little dress, especially at the sale price!

I also tried on this puff shoulder dress, which is a chic yet retro-inspired take on a work piece. It comes in plaid or solid colors in both petite and regular. FYI, the shoulders are pretty full so this is for those who want a more fashion-forward look. The comfortable medium-weight material is very stretchy and lined (and machine washable!), and the bow belt is removable. I ended up keeping the white ruffle dress over this since that one is a little looser at the waist.

Measurements of plaid dress in xxs regular: 13.5″ across underarms, 12″ across waist, 15.5″ across ships, 33.5″ length.

New Look culotte pant + cropped top sz 2 petite (waist runs small; also in regular), Ann Taylor sandals sz 5 (current version) on sale!

Remember this fiery red party-ready look from a few years back? I found a very similar coordinate set by this U.K. brand, in petite and regular sizing! The stretchy crepe-like material drapes nicely and is unlined. These pants will fit someone my pre-pregnancy size perfectly without alterations, which is SO hard to find with U.S. brands (just compare measurements to the AT culotte pants below … ).

Pants in sz 2 petite measure: 12″ across waist, 11″ high rise, 21″ inseam. Crop top measures: 14.5″ across armpits, 12″ across waist, 15.5″ total length.

I’ve been getting a lot of questions on dresses or jumpsuits for special events, and would definitely suggest checking out ASOS where I found this set. Their petite items run small and have styles you won’t see anyone else wearing. They’re having a buy more, save more promo this weekend and free shipping to a number of international countries!

culotte pants for petite women ann taylor spring

Ann Taylor wide leg pants sz 00 petite (waist runs big), ruffle striped sweater xxs, sandals sz 5 (current version) on sale!

Ann Taylor is also having a big sale with 50% off most items with code YESPLEASE. Keep an eye out for my next post featuring two favorites from their latest arrivals – this embroidered tie-waist skirt and this eyelet sleeve tee.

Other new arrivals I tried on include this look above … high-waisted culottes are so good on petite ladies! They have similarly flattering lines as my beloved wide-leg pants, but the cropped length allows you to wear comfy lower heels or flats. This ice blue color is a beautiful pale hue. The waist runs big for high-rise, so extra petite ladies may need alterations.

Measurements of pants in 00 petite: 13.5″ across waist, 10″ rise, 22″ inseam. Pants are unlined & machine washable.

black jumpsuit wedding guest outfit

Twist jumpsuit xs petite (also in navy), Steve Madden sandals 5.5 (runs narrow), iPhone case

I’m re-posting this jumpsuit (originally reviewed in this post) because both black and navy got restocked in XS petite! The material is a very lightweight, stretchy jersey fabric that feels like wearing a tee shirt. Note, the length on this runs longer for petite sizing (XSP has a 33″ inseam), which I was looking for personally because I wanted it to be floor length with my high heels for a super elongating effect.

astr off shoulder lace dress
Remember this beautiful, affordable lace midi dress from this blog post? I’ve been loving the photos you guys shared wearing it! ASTR came out with this newer style (pictured above) in the same crochet lace material but with an off-shoulder ruffle, so I had to give it a try. The torso on this one runs very small as well, but the big lace ruffle was not flattering on me. I’d stick to the original lace dress with no ruffle and a shorter skirt lining (which sounds so minor, but it visually makes a difference on petite ladies!). It was just restocked in a lot of colors perfect for spring / summer weddings or bridal activities.

Oops… last comment wasn’t clear- this is regarding the M. Gemi code
Hi there! I tried using the code and it says it’s applied, but doesn’t actually work. After talking to customer service, they said it is expired. Just a heads up!

For culotte pants and jumpsuits, where do you think it’s the most flattering on petites (5’)? I have a cullotte jumpsuit from BR (00p) and wonder if I should hem up closer to knee length. Is that too short? I’m afraid the longer length ( closer to the ankle would make me look stumpy… 🙁 it’s a struggle!

Hi Leigh – I personally prefer a length that hits at a narrower part of my lower leg, so probably near the low calves / high ankles.

ASOS definitely has a ton of different jumpsuits and romper that are super cute! I like your red culotte jumpsuit. I haven’t really tried wearing culottes before but it looks really comfortable. I am more of a jeans and tee gal so this one speaks to me! Happy Friday Jean! Wishing you a wonderful Easter weekend!

I love wearing culotte pants! 🙂 They’re the cutest, and so comfy for spring. It’s so hard to find a pair that’s petite enough, though, so thank you for the recommendation. 😀 Can’t wait to check the pieces out! 🙂

Hi Jean, is there a reason you chose regular sizing in the Express dresses vs. the petite sizing?

For non-maxi dresses specifically, I usually prefer the length of their regular sizing as sometimes Express petite is a little too short on me! However for their pants and maxi dresses, their regular is too long so I usually do short (for jeans) or petite.
