One of the best petite-friendly jeans that I discovered last year has to be Express’ “high-waisted legging jeans” in their short inseam. I’ve tried on lots of denim styles there, and this cut fits me the best by far (the mid and low-rise cuts run bigger at the waist). They sell out quickly each time, but good news is, they do come back in new colors like this flattering solid dark wash. Express legging jeans are usually thick like regular denim, and have a good amount of stretch and hold. I wash and dry them inside out, but only after every couple of wears (note: they shrink down a bit in the machine dryer).
Size 00 short is my go-to size in this cut. It has minimal gapping at my waist, and the legs are comfortably slim. I love the higher rise, and the stretch fabric keeps the waist from feeling too restricting. This latest wash I’m trying on has a 27″ inseam, which is a tad long on me. My most preferred cut is actually the “high waisted cropped or ankle legging jeans” which have an even shorter length. I don’t see any in solid washes right now, but they are available in distressed styles like these or these.
I noticed this cut now comes in petite sizing as well, so was curious how that compares to the short. I ordered both to try on, and it turns out the petite waist is a little narrower, however the inseam is a little longer compared to the short. Everything else from rise to hips felt pretty similar.
Measurements of jeans in 00 petite (below left): 12.5” across waist, 27.5” inseam.
Measurements of jeans in 00 short (below right): 13″ across waist, 27″ inseam.
On the loungewear front, I recently picked up this drape cardigan which is so soft and comfy! I didn’t have a chance to iron it yet, so please excuse the wrinkles. Contrary to the one online review, I thought the fleeced material is pretty fair for the price and not too thin. If you’re familiar with my beloved Bobeau drape cardigan, the design of this one is similar, except the waterfall drape is more pronounced here and the back side is long enough to cover the bum.
Also if you’re looking for an easy yet elegant outfit for going out (or for Valentine’s Day!), what’s easier than a sleek one-piece jumpsuit? For an affordable option with a torso and inseam that run on the shorter side, check out this jumpsuit (XSP has a 29″ inseam) that I reviewed last year.
If you need a little more length, I also found this twist-front jumpsuit (trying it on above) at Nordstrom Rack! The XSP has a 33″ inseam, so is long enough for most petite women to wear with high heels (might be too long for some). Black is selling out quickly in small sizes, but it also comes in navy which appears to be well-stocked! The material is a stretchy, lightweight jersey fabric.
While at the mall, I also saw a very familiar dress, back in new colors! Some of you might remember this sweetheart mini dress in velvet and mesh that I reviewed for the holiday season. It sold out quickly, but is back now in regular black fabric, along with a black floral print (would be cute for V-Day with black tights) and a blush pink.
This dress only came in regular sizing last year, but the updated versions come in both regular and petite! The regular size 00 actually fit me pretty well, except the armholes were just a little low. I imagine the petite sizing would fit better there, but also be a shorter mini length on someone my height. I saw the current versions in-store and the new fabrics were medium-weight and lined.
Thank you so much for this post! Just purchased some new high rise pants from Express and was confused about the petite vs. short sizing. This post saved me a lot of trouble!
Lovely outfits! <3 Was searching for a cute one for vday!

Thanks for the jeans review. I recently found “high-waist jeggings” from Garage that fit surprisingly well so I will check out these from Express.
Not quite on topic but I’m so excited to see your “bump” and maybe see more practical mom outfits. =D

Loving the outfits. You’re right about express legging jeans. All my jeans are from Express & that’s exactly what I buy. They’re perfect.
I am a big fan of jumpsuits and it’s little sister, the romper! This black twist you are wearing is understated but I can see how it will last through seasons. Checking out NR now!
