Every year since we got married at the Boston Public Library, we’ve gone back to take a “romantic” anniversary pic in my beloved blue wedding shoes. This time, with a squirmy infant and firecracker toddler in tow, we managed to get our butts there but forgot the most critical element for any photo opp with children: the snack bribes. Alas, with not even a bunny graham cracker on hand, out of fifty photos we did score one with everyone looking at the camera! It’s no surprise mom and dad have a bushel more grey hairs and wrinkles (on both eyes and clothes) this year, but our smiles are as big as ever.
Nick and I aren’t big on gifts, but I always look forward to the small or meaningful item he comes up with per the traditional anniversary gift themes (something made of paper for year 1, cotton for year 2, leather for year 3, and so on). For our 6th wedding anniversary (and 17th year together!!), the theme is iron and I found myself the owner of a new cast iron griddle so we can actually enjoy more than 1 pancake at a time. Nick has an 80+ year old cast iron pan that he inherited from his grandmother and cooks amazing food in, so I hope this griddle is something we’ll have in our family for a while and that our kids will enjoy cooking with one day!
Side note, if you’re looking for a special pair of “something blue” shoes, I came across these Camellia heels (also at Saks, BHLDN) in the dreamiest shade of pale blue. I have the same shoes in another color (see on me) and they are lovely little works of art in person and fairly comfortable thanks to the thicker heel.
Here’s a walk down memory lane from over the years!
These pictures are so cute! Congratulations on the anniversary!!
Thank you!
Oh Jean! What a beautiful family picture! Happy Anniversary! It is a beautiful picture of your family. Thank you for sharing what a parent goes through to get that one great picture with everyone looking at the camera and smiling. Everyone looks so beautiful and perfect. Thank you for sharing the behind the scenes story on how crazy it can be to get that one perfect picture with children. Sharing this shows us all, with patients and perseverance, we too can also have a great family picture. 🙂
You’re so sweet Susan, thank you for all of your kind words and encouragement!
Love your anniversary pics!
Thank you!
What a beautiful family! May I ask the quality of the few moda dress? I saw that it was 100% polyester and was hoping for more natural fabrics.
Thank you! Most of their dresses are cotton actually but this one is a poly blend. If you like more natural fabrics do check out their others styles that I’ve featured recently!
Happy anniversary! ! Beautiful as always❤️ Since you mentioned grey hair, are you doing anything to hide it? Struggling with grey hair myself, so just wondering if you’re doing anything about it. Thanks!!
Hi June – I’ve just been letting it grow in these days! Though my hairdresser says you can do semipermanent color in a few shades lighter than your natural hair (so when the greys grow back in the coloring won’t look super stark)
I love these Jean! Really love them.
Thank you Val!
Happy blessed anniversary to you & yours Jean! Like other lovely readers, your traditional anniversary post puts a smile on my face. Cheers to an inspirational couple & such a beautiful family!
Thank you xx
I always love your anniversary posts. You and Nick make beautiful babies. What a beautiful family!!
I think you always tell us what Nick got you as your anniversary gift but you don’t tell us what you got him! 🙂
Thank you Debbie!
What a lovely post and photos. I rem those days of photo bribes….treats!
Congratulations on your anniversary. I really like your tradition of taking photos every year where you got married. Wishing you the best.
The treats are a great bribe for toddlers… until you forget to pack any! Thank you for your well wishes xx
What a sweet tradition to create years of memorable photos! You all look wonderful in each one 🙂
Thank you Christina! It’s gotten more challenging to keep up with the tradition as our family has grown but it is so special to be able to look back each year xx
Happy Anniversary Jean & Nick! I look forward to your anniversary pictures each year and I remember them all – what a lovely tradition. I noticed another reader say the same thing – I wonder how many of us there are across the globe who have the biggest smiles when your anniversary comes around again each year!
With love and best wishes from the UK xx
