Lemon Print Sundress

capri anacapri travel outfits lemon dress

lemon dress sz S (*see note below), Caslon sandals sz 5 (see my review), straw bag, Baublebar earrings, similar sunglassesT&B boater hat (2 colors) + added striped scarf

This affordable little sundress was sold out for months, but it just got restocked under Prime so I dug out these old photos! (NOTE: if the Prime icon is no longer available next to the size & color you need, that unfortunately means Amazon has sold out, so it would be shipping direct from the overseas vendor which I would not recommend). I’m a sucker for lemon print and had searched high and low for a piece featuring the sunny fruit. This is a fairly basic, cotton/spandex sundress, and what you receive is pretty accurate to the stock photo. Fit is true to size – for reference, I’m wearing sz Small and was approximately 105 lbs (mostly concentrated in the belly) and 5 feet tall. The shoulder straps are adjustable and I had them set pretty short, in order for the waistline to fit above my bump.

I styled this very casually for a day of exploring with my white J.Crew petites denim jacket (see my review) and my comfiest cushioned sandals! Measurements of dress in sz S, when lying flat and un-stretched (fabric is stretchy): 15.25″ across the underarms, 13″ across the waist, 22″ skirt length. Based on some of the customer photos, it looks like the different prints / colors may run very differently fit-wise, so I can only speak to the lemon print one that I ordered!

A small tip for making your hats more versatile – when traveling in the summer, I usually pack a few skinny scarves such as this striped blue one, in order to tie around the bands of my hats to change up the look. I also make DIY bands using wide grosgrain ribbon with velcro tabs, but that takes a little more effort than simply tying a scarf in a bow!

Love your whole look! Unfortunately the dress doesn’t seem to be available in a size xs which I think would be the size I need. After seeing you look so lovely in straw hats I’m searching for one t that doesn’t swallow me up, as well as being petite in body I have a small face too. The one you are wearing in this poat looks like it might work but is listed as one size fits all. Do you find it stays on your head (or do you have any tricks to making it a snugger fit?). Thanks Jezn

Hi Kathy! When shopping for hats I usually look for either sizes (ie banana republic offers S, M, L and their hats usually run smaller) or an adjustable tie strap inside! A lot of the hats at Nordstrom actually come with the tie strap for their one size fits all styles. If all fails you can also purchase thin adhesive strips of foamy material from the drugstore and line the interior of your hat bands.

How do you get such a thin fabric to look so smooth? What undergarment?

Honestly I didn’t find it to be as thin as some of the reviewers mentioned! But the problem with Amazon apparel is I think certain colors and prints can be pretty different in fabric quality or fit, even if its listed under the same style. So judging by the photos, I think most of the reviewers complaining about a thin fabric didn’t order the lemon one. I’m not wearing anything seamless underneath – just my regular skin-toned underwear and my usual stick-on bra pads!

Hi Jean! I really enjoy your blog and have followed for years. I have to disagree – I ordered the dress in the lemon print and was really disappointed. The material was incredibly thin and transparent and overall, the dress looked very cheap. I am returning, was very disappointed by this dress.

This really makes me wonder whether the manufacturer changed the fabric and as a result there are two or more different batches. I got a comment from someone on IG today saying she just received the dress and was very happy with it, and I definitely would not say the one I received is sheer. The only explanation I can think of is they changed the fabric for some of the dresses in latter batches, and I’m bummed to hear that the one you got is poor quality!

I’ve been loving floral and fruit prints. They are so cute and perfect for spring and summer. I love the way you styled your bun to accommodate the hat. Can you do a tutorial for a low hair bun (I know you had one for a high bun)? I would love to be able to wear a straw hat with my hair styled like that. Thanks.

Hi Mimi! I actually use the exact same tools and method, just secure the bun lower by my neck and off to the side. I still use the little claw clip that I mentioned in that tutorial, just lower, and wrap the hair around it and secure with the spin pins!
