Under $50 Cardigan Jacket

petite fall outfit naghedi medium bag sweater jacket long cardigan

Cardigan: Amazon S in Gray (see Khaki below)
Sweater: Quince xs
Jeans: Madewell 24 (hems cut shorter)
Sneakers: New Balance sneakers 5.5
Accessories: Naghedi tote, J.Crew earrings, $15 sunglasses

I was writing a post on this very affordable cardigan jacket in 15+ colors, and noticed that it’s on sale for an even better price! I found the overall sweater to be a great value even when not on sale – I bought two at regular price and have worn them many times already for school drop offs, weekends & WFH.

You can check out all of my Amazon finds here for other items I own on sale, including a deal on my trusty mini steamer that I use on this.

Sizing: This cardigan was an unexpected success for me since they only offer size Small – XL (UPDATE: they just introduced XS). I usually take xxs in other brands and assumed the S would be much too big, but it actually fits a good amount of oversized on me after I cuffed up the sleeves. A friend who is 5’4” and slender tried on my size S cardigan, and the sleeves hit bracelet length on her, and it had more of a closer fit rather than slouchy and oversized.

Material: The material is weighty, a smooth flat weave and warm. It has a lot of structure and is not a flowy & drapey style cardigan. When it arrives it looks boxy out of the package, and I found that giving it a good steaming, especially along both sides and the sides of each sleeve, makes a big difference in how it falls on the body.

Colors: In the photo above I’m wearing the Amazon cardigan in Grey, but want to note that in-person it’s actually taupe, which was a nice surprise for me since taupe is a core color in my wardrobe! I also bought the Khaki pictured below, which is a camel color.

    Hi Jean!
I bought it in black and love it! I did sew in the side seams a bit, around through the armpit and into the sleeves just a little to reduce bulk. So glad I got it, and a great price point! Hopefully it will wear well. I am loving the Chanel jackets this season too and may have to pick one up! Thanks for all the inspiration!!

I love the outfit. Thanks for sharing! I just wonder, is the cardigan scratchy at all? It seems so luxe and looks as though it’s super soft but ya never know til you try it on. Can you let me know, I’m on the cusp of ordering it for myself. I’m 5’1 and enjoy your content.

Thank you Selina! As mentioned in my post, it’s not a soft cozy sweater, it’s a structured jacket-like cardigan and has an oversized fit. Hope this helps!

Beautiful look. Regarding the Quince crew pictured, how long is it on you? I’m just under 4’11”. it it short enough for an easy and comfortable french tuck?

Hi Monica, of all of the Quince tops and sweaters I’ve tried I would say this shrunken cashmere sweatshirt is the most petite-friendly and is short enough for an easy French tuck!

I love that you are posting finds from Amazon! I’ve always wanted to buy there because it’s so convenient, but haven’t had any luck in our size range. I saw your picks on Amazon and wondered if you could indicate the sizes that you purchased. Thank you for everything you do to make extra petite shopping so much easier!’

Thanks Kate! I always include details on the size I’m wearing. For blog posts, it’s typically right under the photo (they’re listed out under the first and second photos in this post) but I also often go into greater detail about sizing within my blog post. For this cardigan sweater I wrote up a section about the sizing about halfway through the post.

On my Amazon page, if you hover over the two vertical lines at the bottom right of the item image my fit notes will pop up.

      I hope this helps!

Thank you for your post! I have been looking for a coat cardigan like this – I actually saw this one on Amazon and dismissed it because I also usually wear size XXS, and since size S is the smallest size many Amazon brands offer, it never fits. So it was great to hear that the sizing worked for you, and I went ahead and bought it – I love the heavy weight as well as the fit, and getting it on sale for Prime Day made it a really great value!

I’m so happy to hear this, Erin! The sizing with pieces from Amazon can certainly be hit or miss, but I’m glad that my review was helpful and that you’re loving the cardigan too!
