Hello hello – popping in from SF to post this look and a few good pieces on sale right now! Cole Haan is having 30% off site-wide with free shipping and returns. In addition to their OTK Marina boots which I always recommend, I recently got to try on their Narelle knee-high suede boot which both looks and fits beautifully. It actually hits below my knees and is nice and slim in the calf, plus feels very well-made. Note the zipper goes down the back instead of the inside calf, which is a little different, but as a result creates a seamless inner leg line. Unlike OTK boots, these are a tall boot that could be office-appropriate, especially the black suede one paired conservatively with black tights.
Ann Taylor is having a big cold-weather sale with 50% off sweaters, coats, and more! So many good pieces, including this year’s version of my peplum sweater from last year (see on me), this lightweight ruffle sleeve top still available in chianti (see my review), this wool-blend coat with plush removable faux-fur collar, and of course this belted wrap coat (see on me) which is unfortunately sold out in most petite sizes. If you were able to snag one last week, let me know how you like it!
Stores are also starting their seasonal markdowns – a few of my closet favorites are included like the Sam Edelman Blake booties (LOVE – see on me in size 5) which just went on sale, and my suede tassel pumps which are now 40% off! They are available here at Shopbop or Nordstrom with free shipping and returns. As reviewed in this post, these are my first Joie purchase (took sz 5.5) and I thought the design and quality were comparable to higher-end designer shoes. I’ve always been a lover of ankle details despite the leg-truncating effect on petites, but straps in a skin-toned color help minimize that issue.
If this skirt looks familiar, you might recall one of my most favorite dresses in the same fabric! I know several of you were interested in that dress, which unfortunately sold out a long time ago. When I saw this skirt online a while back I had to do a double take, and finally purchased when I saw they released additional sizing starting in xxs.
Chicwish pieces can be hit or miss on fabric quality and fit, so I suggest sticking with items that have customer photos and reviews posted. Note shipping time is longer coming from Asia, and return shipping (to a US-based address) is at the shopper’s expense. This pleated floral skirt turned out to be good quality and a fairly close fit on me. The material feels almost exactly the same as on my dress, with a nice, weighty fabric. The actual color is a slightly darker teal, in-between how it looks in these images and my Instagram photo at the very bottom of this post.
This skirt has pleats all around, a lining, and a concealed back zipper. It’s just begging to have pockets, which would’ve made it perfect! An xxs measures about 12.5” across the waist and 23” long, hitting right below my knees.
I paired this with block-heels and my Gucci soho bag for brunch and a little strolling around the city, and wore it again with my Blank NYC moto jacket and dressier pumps for dinner with friends. You can also easily style this for the office with a black top and closed-toe pumps, topped with a cropped cardigan or blazer for a more professional look.
Dear Jean!
I absolutely love your blog and style even though I am not petite and live in Europe so unfortunately can often not make use of your shopping tips but definitely love your styling tips! However I was wondering how you style this type of midi skirt with a blazer? I find it difficult to get the proportions right as the skirt is already full and even with very slim blazers it still seems to be too much on top. A cardigan is nice but sometimes is not chic enough.
Thank you for your help
Best
Anna

I like the more casual look with the block heels!
Please supply information on the sweater. Thanks.

My favorite city in the world! I love this outfit- that skirt is amazing.
On a totally unrelated note, do you happen to own the Anthropologie Carissima Sheath by Beguile Byron Lars in black? I know you have the white one, and I'd love to know which one you think is more versatile. Thank you!

Jean, how do you keep your Gucci soho from sagging? I find that mine is starting to lose its "boxy" shape.
Always looking so beautiful! Love your midi skirt:P

I am obsessed with this skirt! SO stunning!

The skirt is really pretty! I usually hesitate about buying skirts online unless I have other items from the same brand. I cannot anticipate whether they are going to look good/fit me.
