Holiday work style // wrap coat, jewels + tweed

winter wrap coat jacket ann taylor extra petite

Belted wrap coat xxsp, blouse xxsp, skirt 00p (altered) – items c/o Ann Taylor, Talbots tights sz S, Prada Cuir bag, Zara pumps (similar), stud earrings

I know many of you have been waiting for a belted wrap coat that is of good quality, warm, and petite-friendly – well, patience has paid off! The wool-blend material of this wrap coat is soft and cozy (and lined), and the open wrap style will adjust to fit either a little or a lot of layering underneath (or to conceal indulgent holiday meals : ) Fit is true to size –  I have a feeling petite sizes will go quickly!

what to wear to a holiday work office party

Today’s post touches on two popular requests that I’ve been receiving already for holiday (yes, the best time of the year is here, and I’m not complaining!): 1. holiday outfits that are office-appropriate, and 2. outfits involving tights for our rapidly-dropping temps. I’m partnering with Ann Taylor to share a look that is festive yet professional, and works well both with or without hosiery. Navy tights and similar-colored shoes together are the foundation of many of my cold-weather outfits. Compared to basic black, I feel navy tights pair more easily with softer hues and vibrant color palettes, without looking too stark!

The embellished collar on my blouse and metallic & sequin flecks throughout this skirt are small ways to add holiday touches to a look, without going over the top or baring much skin. I love putting together separates that end up looking almost like a dress! Please note that as with most Ann Taylor bottoms, I took this skirt in about 2 inches for it to fit higher up on my waist.

Trying out the silk scarf wrapped around the handles, to give one of my favorite older bags a new look! And here’s how the jacket looks when open:

Can you speak to the arms of the coat? Would you be able to put a sweater over a shirt before putting on the coat, or would that be too tight?

    Hi Jean,
I want to wear more skirts in the winter but I find it uncomfortable to wear tights underneath skirts because of that wedgie feeling. I also feel that wearing tights underneath skirts is a whole process when going to the washroom, especially if I am trying to keep my blouse still tucked into my skirt. Do you have any advice or tricks on how to avoid that wedgie feeling and how to keep your blouse intact without having to fully remove everything while in the washroom (to avoid having to dress yourself all over again)?
P.S. I've tried over the knee tights but I don't like how they cut into your thighs or keep rolling down.

I love your blog. I bought the white distressed jeans from your last post. Thank you for saying something about the difficulties of this week for so many. Social media has been a particularly nasty place…you are brave to say anything. I have always believed in kindness and equality for all…but now more than ever. xoxo

    hello Jean,
I find that wearing tight with pump without ankle strap is hard to walk without the soles slipping out of the shoes. Do you have any suggestion ? thanks

Nice pieces – I have yet to find navy tights flattering on me, doesn't match with much and not a true neutral. Think it might be good for a holiday party though.
