It’s been a rainy few days in Boston, but weather hasn’t put a damper on those out enjoying Fall activities! We strolled down one of my favorite walking paths (the Commonwealth Ave “mall,” which is not at all a shopping mall ; ) and spent time with old friends visiting from out of town.
If you missed my last sale post, Cole Haan’s Fall event is wrapping up, and my narrow-calved Marina boots (now have these in both black and gray) are still fully in stock at sizable discount! Ann Taylor is also having an event with 50% off (ends Monday night) including newest arrivals, such as my olive skirt worn here. This piece is nice quality with a thicker twill material, full lining, pockets and cute tortoise buttons. Size down if you want it to sit higher at your waist like I’m wearing it here – I had to take it in about 2.” Although there’s a lot more options these days for petite-friendly clothing, finding bottoms (aside from denim) that fit at the waist without alterations is sadly still a rarity.
Here’s a few more new arrivals that caught my eye, all on sale:
– adorable blush ruffle shell + cardigan duo that is now finally available in petites
– gorgeous faux-fur stole which I have and adore from last year (looks so luxe over coats)
– the high-waisted flare trousers I’ve been loving in a new glen plaid fabric
– suede shoes in rich hues and little glam details, like these scalloped mary janes, these jeweled burgundy pumps, and these embellished low heels
I had on just this sweater, skirt and boots and found the outfit to be a little disconnected with three different solid colors. I grabbed this scarf on the way out as an extra layer, and the plaid turned out to be perfect for tying the neutral shades of my outfit together. With turtlenecks, I like wearing my blanket scarves over the shoulders as a cape, as it’d be too bulky otherwise if tied around the neck area.
Some of you have asked for recommendations on better-quality versions of my Boohoo drape wrap, originally reviewed in this post. You get what you pay for there (note: it’s more like a felt wrap and not a real jacket), and for a classic piece, I’m willing to spend more but just hadn’t found many other options. Club Monaco currently has a soft trench that comes in three colors (shadow gray, khaki stone, and olive), is lighter in weight, and the sleeves may need shortening on petites. Sorry for the low-quality pictures below! I screen-shotted these from my Instagram stories video where I wanted to show the jackets with a little movement. I don’t post about CM often, but really like their slightly minimalistic yet feminine aesthetic.
I just saw the online stock photo for this jacket, and probably wouldn’t have looked twice based on that. The material is fluid and the lapel looks better draped, versus how it’s worn on the model. The xs is a more casual fit on me -not snug- but I think it works given the flowier silhouette. I purchased the cream, as I have this soft gray trench (read my review) already which I would recommend to those on a budget!
I just purchase this yesterday. It's so soft and comfortable, it's also on sale right now for $199.
Hi Jean!! I've loved this scarf and just got it for the holiday season. I noticed at the end of today that the scarf is shedding a bit. It's not incredibly noticeable but my shirt was covered in fibers. Any suggestions on a fix??
Love your style! Which Club Monaco trench coat will you pick if you don't have a soft gray one already, cream or light gray? I am thinking about buying the coat, but can't decide on the color. Thanks a lot!
I love how you styled your hunters! A dressed up rainy weather outfit is my favorite.

Jean, if you are searching for high quality luxe faux fur, check out Royal Scout and Co.! Their fur is amazing
Wow! you look absolutely gorgeous in that outfit. I can't think of any outfit perfect for fall but just this one! Love it. And for the trench coat, well, that's easy-peasy for me, I love the grey one. Haha, I'm a sucker for grey and black 😉
Question re: how you store the cole haan marina boots..do you stuff them and let them "stand" which takes a lot of room or put them in a box? Thanks!
The scarf definitely ties your outfit together and good choice on the trench color!
