Gray Trench + Neutrals

Chicwish textured belted trench coat xs (sleeves shortened), H&M; sweater xs, Ann Taylor sandals (current version), AOS jeans (similar white jeans – love these!), Goyard St Louis PM bag, Ray-Ban sunglasses, Baublebar necklace

Here’s another way I’ve styled the comfy sweater reviewed in this post. Mine’s the “light beige” color, which is still available online and now on sale! I paired it in an outfit with all neutrals on the most gorgeous sunny day last week…so nice that I broke out the open-toed shoes! I knew the premature warmth was too good to be true – mr weatherman said we’ll be back to snow soon! slouchy off shoulder sweater white jeans casual spring outfit

I really wanted a bluish gray trench earlier this year, and this one looked promising in the stock photo. It turned out to be pretty fair quality for the price – fully lined with pockets, belt, covered buckles, and is in a nice medium-weight material. I often toss it on to run errands with sneakers as shown here, or over gym clothes.

Shopping at Asia-based retailers is always hit or miss, although I’d rank Chicwish higher than its peers given my experiences over the years. The quality of their materials does vary quite a bit, and shipping takes a while, but the tradeoff is I’ve found some pieces I really like amidst the trial & error. I think Chicwish actually manufactures most items at their own factories and takes most of their own product photos, unlike similar companies whom source from numerous factories and use generic stock pics.

Since my last writeup of my shopping experience, I noticed that they now include a returns form with a US-based returns address clearly printed, vs. last time when I was wrongly told to ship items back to Hong Kong. I will say though that shipping costs in general are not low even domestically, so expect to pay $10-15+ to return a small package (hence why I greatly appreciate brands that still offer free shipping & returns!).

While writing up this post I noticed a very familiar print in Chicwish’s new arrivals – the pattern on this pleated skirt looks super similar to one of my favorite print dresses from Anthro (see on me here or here)! I’m not sure about the material quality of this piece, but the color scheme of the one I have is beautiful for pairing in cooler weather.

Hello Jean. After reading your review I went ahead and purchased from Chicwish. They were backordered on the trench even though on the website it doesn't say that. The only reason why I found out they were out of stock was because I emailed them to check on the status. I finally received the items (it has been 2+ weeks). The trench's sleeve 'belts' were so poor in quality. One of the sleeve 'belts' were so badly sewn that it was fraying at the ends. Did you notice this on your trench? The other item I ordered was a sleeveless belt dress jacket. Again, the sewing on the bottom wasn't complete and part of the bottom hem is unraveling. I am going to contact customer service, but I just wanted to share my experience and see if you notice any of these things.

Jean, about the chicwish trent. Iamthisclose to purchasing, but was hoping you could comment on the "feel" of the coat. For the price, how does it "feel" on, compared to mid-level brands such as Banana and J Crew? I don't need Burberry luxury, but I'd like to feel fancy in the coat. 🙂

That literally just happened to me as well. I told them the date I mailed back my return and said there was absolutely no way it could've taken that long, and they refunded me on my credit card. I would suggest doing the same and hopefully if enough customers complain, they will take note.

I tried returning a Chicwish item that I purchased. Even though, they provide a US return address, they want it to be delivered from their US return location to their Asia location within their returns period, otherwise they don't provide a refund. But, they did provide me with a store credit (plus 10$).

Here's the reply I received from them. And I returned the item to the US location right away ->

    Hi, Jean,

I Really dig this look! More importantly, how comfy it feels! I followed your link to the H&M; sweater. Normally, I'm a bit skeptical about the quality of their clothes, but I tried it (because you said it felt cozy). And I have to say, great pick! Even my husband, who normally doesn't care for loose style pieces, says it looks great on me! Thanks so much!

Hi Jean, how do you like your Ann Taylor sandals? I like the minimal look for casual looks, but the heel height seems a bit high for walking around on weekends. Are you finding them fairly comfortable? Also, which size did you go with?

    Thanks!

I have not done a post in recent years, but I have popped into the store every so often to try on the styles. I love the newer heritage trench styles that now come in size 0. Unfortunately they are pricier (starting at $1700ish and up) than before but the constructions and fit is very nice. THey fit slim and narrower than before back when I bought mine, and just need sleeve shortening on someone my height.

They are medium weight compared to all the white jeans I've tried on (and boy I must've tried on about 20 pairs) so not sheer but not a super thick denim. I wear skin-toned underwear all the time so don't have issues with these being see through.

Hmm…I'm not sure if I have any suggestions because my tuck usually stays put since my bottoms are a snug fit. I don't wear another layer on the inside. Sorry I can't be of more help!

Agree with the above – cotton material content might shrink in the machine dryer on higher heat, if the material hasn't been pre-shrunk by the manufacturer (a lot of denim brands do that so you won't get much shrinkage afterwards). I usually do 10 minute increments in case the item over-shrinks on the first dry. Please note though that items that are not labeled "machine dry" may get damaged in the machine dryer…ie. warped zippers, material content altered, so please try it at your own risk

My inserts are from all different brands collected over the years…they're so worn in I can't really see the brands anymore but I get them from the drugstore to Nordstrom to Amazon online. I'm not sure what lift kit is but I've heard of shoelifts … these have great reviews so may be worth a try: http://www.amazon.com/Core-Adjust—Lift-Heel-Small/dp/B001TLX312/ref=sr_1_27?s=apparel&ie;=UTF8&qid;=1458168622&sr;=1-27&nodeID;=7141123011&keywords;=shoe+lifts+women

Clothes don't shrink in the washer but they will in the dryer if they are a cotton or cotton-blended materials. Just put it in the dryer for 5-10 minute interval to check for shrinkage.

    Hi Jean
You mentioned you use shoe inserts in your boots for extra height in your slouchy sweater post. Can I ask what kind you use? I was thinking of getting some lift kit insoles. Have you ever tried those? The shaft on my hunters are too tall and I thought some insoles would help. I didn't find the shaft of the tour boots much narrower or shorter than the originals. Thank you
