Restocked: Sézane French Girl Classics

One of my favorite things about Sézane is that a good chunk of their store is “evergreen” pieces that are high quality with longevity (and are sold year after year), versus trendier, fleeting styles. I noticed they did a big restock this month on their core classics, and wanted to recap a few that I’ve owned or tried on. Here are 5 French girl favorites that are back for this season:

1. CHunky Feminine Knit

If you’re new to the brand, Sézane’s OG Leontine stripe pullover in 100% organic cotton is one I’m still excited to wear after many years. The Betty Cardigan in 100% merino wool is probably their second most popular style – xxs fits a little big on me, but is a favorite of my 5’2″ MIL. Both styles are non-itchy core Sézane pieces that are always stocked in many colors.

If you have sensitive skin, check the material composition listed for each style. I find their kid mohair and alpaca sweaters to be itchier, though the mohair/merino sool combo on this Amance cardigan below was softer than I expected! It has becomes THE sweater I reach for when I want a special, more interesting piece that’s cozy and comfortable.

The details are so pretty on this one from the gently ballooning sleeves to the tiny pearlized buttons. The xxs is a looser cut on me with long sleeves that I fold once to make a little more petite friendly.

I’ve lost count of the number of ways I’ve worn this cardigan. I’ve shown it before over straight Levis jeans, with a mini, and for the holidays I loved it for cozy glam looks over a sequin or satin midi skirt!

2. Houndstooth blazer

The Christie jacket is one of Sézane’s most core styles, available year-round in over a dozen colors and fabrics. This is definitely a thicker weight blazer, and works well as a layering piece or a standalone jacket on a crisp Autumn day. The houndstooth just got restocked and is a warmer wool blend. I’ve tried on the solid colors as well – all made well in suiting-quality fabrics with a full lining.

Fit wise, the size US 0 / EUR 32 is a relaxed fit on me and hits at the hips. The sleeves hit a little long on me at a borderline spot, not quite long enough for me to alter. Size US 0 / EUR 32 measures: 14.5″ across the shoulders, 17″ across the bust, 25″ length, 23.5″ sleeve length. The other fabrics might measure a little differently, depending on how thick they are.

This is one of those jackets I love just with a simple jeans and tee combo. The houndstooth colors go beautifully with many Fall hues of the laptop-friendly Madewell bucket tote I’ve been sharing about, and would be stunning with burgundy shoes, which are on my Fall wishlist!

Last winter I loved this look below with a miniskirt, tights, and riding boots and can’t wait to repeat it!

I adore the sleek equestrian riding look of these boots, but the sizing and fit is tricky. They run narrow and small in both the foot and in the shaft. The shaft height hits my knees so it’s better suited for someone taller than me (I’m 5′ tall) with slim calves. I’m usually a size 5/5.5 shoe and am wearing the size 6 without much wiggle room.

3. Crisp button-down

I’ve enjoyed working on capsule wardrobe posts in recent years, and one piece that’s in the lineup every time is a classic button down shirt. The two solid quality options that I usually recommend: Sézane Tomboy shirt in a subtly-textured medium weight cotton, and the Everlane silky cotton shirts in a much lighter-weight cotton (nice for warm weather and on sale this weekend!). The cut on both of these shirts is relaxed – not fitted, not oversized.

See how this shirt transitions easily from very casual summer wear, to fall office wear.

4. Water-repellant Trench Coat

I’ve been reaching for my oversized drape Oak + Fort trench a ton (20% off applied in cart for Labor Day), but for a more traditional tailored trench that’s more functional for damp weather, the Sézane Scott trench is a popular one every year. The material is a sturdy weight, structured cotton fabric and is lightly coated to be water-repellant.

In this older pic I was trying a US 2 (below), which was too big. The US 0 fits better and hits me a few inches below the knees, with sleeves that are a little long on me.

5. Loafers

To me this is the ultimate French girl fall must-have, especially after visiting Paris earlier this year and seeing an abundance of stylish loafer outfits through late Spring. They were paired with black cropped trousers and sheer black socks, with skirts and dresses, with trench coats … I saved several snaps to recreate!

I’ve worn my Sam Edelman loafers for years now and am inspired to try a more menswear inspired style. Aesthetics wise, the Sézane André and Albane loafers are right in the lane of the effortless Parisian outfits in my camera roll. UPDATE: sadly the Sezane loafers were a little painful when I tried them on, so my search continues!
