Sézane’s Spring arrivals dropped this morning with so much eye candy, including a few sold out favorites of mine that got restocked! The Justine bag, Bianca lace top and Nele eyelet blouse and are some of my top picks from the brand that really stand out in my wardrobe. They pair beautifully with my luxe quality Gloria flat sandals that were also restocked. UPDATE: per comments below, there seems to be some inconsistency with the fit on this year’s Nele blouse.
I find that Sézane sizing runs TTS to a tad smaller than US brands, and I can fit their US 0 /xxs, sometimes US 2 in tops. They offer free shipping on $200+ to the US, and free easy returns.
Nick’s pick is this organic cotton waffle shirt that’s a very versatile piece for wearing open or buttoned up, and only gets softer with wear and wash. He has a minimal wardrobe but liked this one so much, he bought it in both colors. He’s about 5’8″ 165lb and fits the Medium (see on him).
Justine basket bag
This one is reminiscent of the popular Loewe tote, and after comparing both last year, I felt the Sézane offers more functionality for a fraction of the price. It has shorter top handles for hand-carrying as well as longer shoulder straps (unlike Loewe, each set of handles on the Sézane actually swivel down when not in use), plus a genius built-in drawstring liner bag to keep your belongings secure. The size is spacious yet petite-friendly, and has held up well after frequent wear last year. You can see several photos of the Justine on me, and it also comes in a mini or bigger size.
Nele Cotton blouse
This is one of the most stunning blouses in my closet that happens to be rather petite friendly. It instantly elevates a pair of jeans or linen shorts, and looks like a high end piece. I cannot recommend this one enough! UPDATE: Please read comments below on how it might run inconsistently. I also want to add that my friend ordered it this month and it does fit her the same way it fits me!
The fabric is 100% cotton with intricate eyelet, embroidery + lace detailing and pearlized buttons. Size 2 on me is a looser, boxier-style fit with wide cut sleeves that are effortlessly breezy. The length on mine is 20,” shorter than most Sezane blouses so I can even wear it untucked. The sleeves on my also measure 20″ and are designed to be 3/4 length and hit my shorter arms perfectly – very rare! This is unlined so I usually wear it just with a skin-toned bra or cami under, and hand wash cold then hang dry.
Amance Cardigan
This is a darling cardigan with subtle details…from the slightly gathered shoulders and gently ballooning sleeves to the tiny pearlized buttons. Fit wise, this one is a looser cut on me with longer sleeves, so I usually wear it with the banded wrist folded inward to make it more petite-friendly. I do not usually go for mohair blends since the material can be itchy, but this mohair/merino wool combo is softer than I expected. Notably more comfortable IMO than their popular Gaspard cardigan, and a little softer than the Angelie, if you’re familiar with those.
It’s cute & cozy worn open, and I really like the blousy look when tucked in, too:
I wanted to pull in this pic of the Scott trench coat from a previous try-on (read the post). I was trying a size US 2 here which was too big, and a 0 is now back in stock! This is a thicker, sturdy weight trench in a structured cotton fabric. The sleeves would need to be shortened for me.
See my other Sézane outfits and try-ons here.
Thank you for the review, Jean! I am a little bigger than you and bought 4/36 Bianca blouse. It measures 19″ across the chest. The fabric is a bit stiff and is very puffy on me, Does the fabric soften and drapes better after wash?
I am considering to exchange for 2/34 but worry about shrinkage.
Hi Wei, my Nele blouse is from last year so if they’re still using the same cotton material, I feel that it does soften after steaming or regular wear but the nature of the material will always have some structure to it. Mine doesn’t feel stiff but it won’t be a drapey blouse, if that makes sense! Maybe give it a steam along the edges and see if it changes anything?
Hi Jean, I also bought the Nele blouse in sz 2. I am a bit bigger then you so was surprised at how wide the blouse is. The sleeves puff out way more than yours at the shoulders. I was thinking of getting the sides and sleeves taken in but that would be too much work.
Hi Jade, I think this one would be challenging to take in. I’m really bummed to hear from everyone’s comments that the restocked batch of this blouse sadly might have changed a bit in fit!
Thanks Jean! I love the Nele blouse as well, and when it was restocked, I ordered it. I am slightly bigger than you in height, but the blouse was incredibly oversized on me to the point where it looked comical. Did you shrink your blouse? There is no way I could wear it the way it is – its really huge.
Hi! Did you get the US size 2/FR 34? I didn’t do anything to my blouse and have not shrunk it in the dryer. I am surprised to hear because while it has a boho-style wider fit, I wouldn’t describe mine as oversized! The measurement of mine is 17” across the underarms, 20“ in length and 20“ sleeve length. Does that match yours? And I’m curious, is yours from this year or last year?
I just received the blouse today. It’s quite lovely with the embroidery detail. However the sleeves are also quite comical on me as well. Very voluminous. They stick out very wide on the upper arms. Possibly pressing them with an iron might help. I’m normally a Petite 4 or 6 and 5’3” 112 lbs. I got the size 36. Fits great everywhere else.
I also just purchased the US size 2/FR 34 last week based on your wonderful review and photo, and when it arrived, I also wondered if you had shrunk yours. Mine measures 19″ across the underarms, 21″ in length and 23″ sleeve length. Quite a difference! Unfortunately, I already removed the tags, so I’m praying it just needs a run through the wash and a hot dryer to fit me, since it’s 100% cotton. I’ll report back.
Hi Beth, so sorry to hear about the blouse wasn’t as expected! I feel so badly about this difference in fit from my review. I don’t think I’ve machine dried mine ever on hot so do let us know how it turns out!
Thanks! I just ordered it two weeks ago and got US size 34/2. The top is 18.75 across, so its much larger than what you have. The sleeve length is the same and length of blouse is 21.
Hi Jean,
Thank you so much for all the Sézane try on and reviews. Could you please do some reviews of their trousers and jeans too? I saw that they gave out some new jeans and pants styles this weekend but their models are so tall that I really cannot understand how they would fit me ( I am 154 cm)😅. Thank you very much for all your hard work, lovely outfits and tips for petite!
Hi Annalisa! I’m about 152 cm and I have not yet had luck on Sezane pants. I even tried a cropped trouser that hit full length on me, but the proportions and rise were not great for petites. Reading through their IG comments, it seems that many have been requesting shorter length options for their pants and jeans, so hopefully they’ll take that into consideration!
I have had better luck with their shorts, though, and own the Rome style for a nice mid-length belted tailored short. Hope that helps!
Hi Jean– Based on your reviews, I recently bought the J. Crew trench coat. I’m just wondering how that one compares with the Sezanne one. Thanks in advance.
Hi Jane! I reviewed the J.Crew icon trench in past years but haven’t tried the current year one. If it hasn’t changed much, then the J.Crew is more petite-proportioned so will fit smaller and shorter, with sleeves that petites won’t need to shorten! The J.Crew hits me around knee length and is cut narrower, while the Sezane is a more A-line cut and hits below the knee on me. Both jackets have a similar fabric weight and made of 100% water-repellant. cotton, and the Sezane is a darker caramel color while J.Crew is more beige.
Thanks. I’m finding the J.Crew one is very structured and tailored (which is completely different than the London Fog I used for 20 years — bought for $99 at Filene’s Basement!). I need to wear the J.Crew one more to get used to it.
