Loving Lately: Plaid, Hair Bows + Riding Boots

I hope your 2024 is off to a good start! I’m looking forward to recapping last year’s top favorites soon (these thermals have certainly earned their spot on my list this winter) and wanted to share some recent looks in the meantime.

We had some damp but fortunately mild weather in NYC, so I packed my mid weight jackets and these sleek rubber boots. I’ve always been a Gossip Girl dresser at heart (give me all the bows, pearls and tweed!), but try to tone it down for my age and lifestyle with just elements here and there – like a tailored jacket and velvet hair bow.

Sezane Christie Jacket

The Christie blazer is one of Sezane’s core pieces, available year-round and comes in well over a dozen colors and fabrics. It’s well-made with a full lining, and the herringbone option is a warmer wool blend that also serves me as mild day jacket. Fit wise, the size US 0 / EUR 32 is a relaxed fit on me and hits at the hips, also working well with jeans and loafers or ballet flats. The sleeves hit a little long on me at a borderline spot, not quite long enough for me to alter them for now.

Size US 0 / EUR 32 measures: 14.5″ across the shoulders, 17″ across the bust, 25″ length, 23.5″ sleeve length. The other fabrics might measure a little differently, depending on how thick or thin the material is.

You can find more of my Sezane try-ons here including their trench coat, sweaters & blouses!

This alternate look was inspired by the many Parisian fashionistas that pop up on my social feed. A classic formula I kept seeing on repeat was high rise straight (or wide leg) jeans, slightly cropped to show off square toe booties, and a blazer or cardigan jacket.

Bianca Lace Blouse

I got this blouse last spring, and it’s one of the prettiest pieces in my wardrobe that can be dressed down with denim (see my outfit here) and dressed up for holiday and special occasions. If white feels daunting to keep clean, it also comes in black.

As mentioned before, the Bianca is petite-friendly down to the 7/8 length sleeves that fit perfectly on me as regular sleeves. The blouse fabric is a non-stretch organic cotton blend, and a US 0 / EUR 32 fits well on me. It does not come with any lining so I either wear just a skin-toned bra, cami or undershirt below it.

This Wilson cardigan is another Sezane piece I’ve been reaching for more lately, thanks to the relaxed feel, the thicker chunky weight, and how easy to throw on over a tee or tank. You can read my original review here.

The return of big hair bows for grown women might be one of my favorite trends this season, and Nori has been delighted that we can match! You can easily just tie any piece of ribbon into a bow, but I got this under $10 set with a clip since it’s quick and foolproof. It comes in multiple colors, and the shape and size works well for both of us.

Rubber Riding boots (narrow fit)

I adore the sleek equestrian look of these boots and find myself excited to wear them each rainy day, but the sizing and fit can be a bit tricky. They run narrow and small in both the foot and in the shaft. The shaft height hits my knees so it’s better suited for someone taller than me (I’m 5′ tall) with slim calves. To help, I added these thin shoe lifts but it makes the foot area tighter. The foot area also runs a little small – I’m usually a size 5/5.5 foot and am wearing the size 6 without much wiggle room.

All this being said, I’m a fan! I never find rubber boots that fit this nice and slim on my narrow calves or look so chic they can almost pass as regular boots. You can also see them worn in this outfit.

I will add that I found the Sezane Bianca in white surprisingly easy to wash out stains from due to the fabric. The first time I wore it I spilled hot chocolate all down the front and was absolutely mortified. I was able to wash it quickly in the cafe bathroom (with hand soap) and the stains came right off! Just a little tip 🙂

Love This Looks! Have a question, what size would you recommend for the madewell turtleneck top? I have similar height and weight as you, and like the top but found They are final sale, not sure I should go xs or xxs

Hi! Mine is old Nordstrom and i linked Madewell as similar bc i have a few of their very similar turtlenecks. I think xxs would be safest if we’re the same size, but it’s likely a snug fit.

Love these outfits! Do you find the riding boots gape a lot at the top? Like you, I have very slim calves and this is usually a problem.

Thank you! The size 6 gaps much less on me than typical rubber rain boots, but make sure you read my review about how the shaft is tall and the foot runs a little small! Also, not sure what foot size you are but as shoe size changes, the opening width will too.

    Hi Jean,

I commented on the Instagram earlier.

I love your outfit and your style as always!

Not only casual look but for office attire.
I’m always looking forward to seeing your posts!

I have a question, how’s Saint Laurent bag? Is it perfect size for you? I have been checking classic black crossbody bag such as Celine ones too.

It is a luxury piece so I just cannot jump in and purchase it yet.

    Do you have any recommendations?

    Have a wonderful day 🥰🫶🏻

Thank you for your kind words! Regarding the bag – I absolutely love it. It’s such a great size and the flat wider strap is more comfortable than my other crossbody’s. Just note that the strap isn’t designed to be a crossbody but it works on me because I’m short, so someone taller might need to punch additional holes for it to be worn this way!
