what to wear to work petite fashion outfits

Express tie waist pants 00 petite (also avail. in “short”) c/o, floral stripe shirt xxsp (regular sizing) c/o, M.Gemi pumps 35.5, Prada bag (my review)

Some of you may remember these super comfy jersey high-waist pants from Express last year – I’ve worn those more times than I can count, so was excited to see a similarly-cut new arrival! Last year’s style is more casual due to the elastic waistband and knit jersey fabric, whereas the style I’m wearing here has a work-appropriate, crepe-like material (machine washable) with a zipper closure. Last year’s pants came in more general letter sizing (xxs – xl) whereas the newer ones are in numerical sizing. The waist does not stretch and is a little loose on me, so I used the sash belt to tighten things up. The ankle length means I can still wear flats for commuting back and forth (I switched into neutral loafers for walking outside)!

Measurements of pants in 00 petite: 13″ across the waist, 25.5″ inseam, 11″ rise. Fabric is unlined.

I paired these pants with a silky-feeling blouse that features a little print mixing action but in the same neutral color scheme. This blouse comes in a few colors (including gray stripes) and is very airy and lightweight, so I’d wear skin-toned undergarments or a camisole underneath. The slinky fabric is good for tucking into skirts without excess bulk showing through, and I like the button sleeve tabs for keeping rolled-up sleeves in place.

For a professional workplace, I’d top this outfit with a cream or gray blazer for a more polished look. This dolman sleeve cardigan has a more slouchy cocoon fit, ideal for lounging or wearing casually. It’s shorter in the front and a little longer in the back, which I like for covering the bum. Check my Instagram stories video today to see how it looks on me with skinny jeans and a cami!

Hi! I love high waisted work pants and typically wear them with sharp flats in warmer weather. What type of booties or footwear would work with this in cooler weather? I don’t typically wear pumps or too much of a heel.

    Hi Jean!

Do these pants wash well? do they wrinkle easily?

    Thanks!

Great outfit. I love the pants (the color and the bow are calling me) and the top is lovely too. I couldn’t handle the heels though. Nice color, but i’m probably shorter than you are but my feet hurt just looking at them.

Hi Jean! I was wondering – do you have any tips on how to preserve the shape of leather bags (Prada for example)?

Very feminine look and comfortable too I can imagine. High waisted trousers really do wonders for petites, right?! I love the big bow a lot as well, gives it an extra thoughtful touch. Love, Lieske

I just adore those high waisted pants! They would be perfect for work. I generally don’t go for lighter pinks but recently I’ve been drawn to the color more and more.

I love everything about this outfit. So effortlessly chic and feminine. Jean, just a friendly reminder to be careful not to get sick while you’re pregnant. This year’s flu is very contagious and virulent. Pregnant women have weakened immune system. During my third trimester, I was severely sick with a cold for 3 weeks in the middle of August. Take care of your body and your little one 🙂

Love the color of these pants and the high waist detail. The tie waist is also a perk as it can cinch in the waist for a better fit and silhouette. Looks good!
