Lately I keep finding myself reaching for flat shoes and long jackets, which may seem counterintuitive for someone petite! A few tips for making this combo work are to make sure the long piece is either well-tailored (no sloppy sleeves or too wide shoulders) or drapes fluidly, and to keep the rest of the outfit sleek like with a higher neckline and fitted bottoms. I heard from so many of you recently who prefer practical sneakers to heels, so wanted to show both shoe options again here for an athleisure vs. dressier look! With the sneakers, I’d definitely swap out the smaller handbag for a roomy black or patterned tote.
I’m excited to be partnering with Banana Republic this year to share a series of posts styled with their seasonal collections. They’re having 40% off almost everything this weekend, discount applied in cart! My favorite piece of this outfit has to be these pointed cap toe pumps. I missed out on a similar pair about a decade ago and still have regrets, which speaks to how timeless this look is! They’re fully in stock right now starting in sz 5, which I don’t think will last especially at the sale price. Fit feels true to size and comfortable for the height given the thicker heels. I also own a navy pair of the Madison block heel pumps from several years ago, and was pleased to see Banana Republic actually improved the design a bit with added cushioning at the arch.
If you’re looking for a staple top that isn’t quite short or long sleeved, this ribbed top is stretchy and fitted, made with a knit materiel that’s thicker than the average tee. This maxi trench (current version) features a more dramatic duster length available in petites sizing, and is a transitional piece that’s easy to throw on to elevate a jeans + tee outfit. The medium weight material drapes well and has a woven texture, with a lining throughout the top half of the jacket and sleeves only.
Thank you to Banana Republic for partnering on this post.
I love your outfits! Can you do more posts with flat shoes/sneakers?
Love this outfit! The colors are perfect and I cannot say no to stripes :).
I super appreciate the shoe swap! I almost always wear flats and it’s useful to have examples of how things look particularly for petites. Thank you!
This is such a timeless look! Love the color olive with the stripes!

I don’t own a trench coat and love this olive one you featured. It’s such a unique color and very different from the khaki colored trench. Cute look!
