Today’s look combines some my key wardrobe staples, including a fitted moto jacket, twist front tee, black skinnies, and a camel scarf. I also wanted to show how a simple footwear switch can alter the feel of an outfit! Practical sneakers lend a laid-back athleisure vibe here while ankle boots add a little edge, and leopard heels dress up the outfit for a night out. Scroll down to see all three variations, and let me know which is more your style!
Shop similar leopard pumps (mine are old BR):
This versatile faux leather jacket from Nordstrom (see my review) is still one of my closet MVPs and is available in three colors. The material on mine got softer and more pliable with regular wear, and in additional to being an outer piece, I also love it for wearing under winter coats for insulation! The twist front on this Gibson fleece top (see my review) is a more interesting alternative to a simple tee shirt, and has remained soft and cozy despite countless wears and washes.
Here’s some other outerwear options available in small sizes at an affordable price:
– Madewell packable swing puffer jacket (40% off) starting in xxs with great reviews
– Blank NYC suede moto jacket (33% off) or burgundy suede jacket (40% off) starting in xs, also with great reviews. I own a similar one and got the sleeves shortened by a tailor.
– Button-front blue coat starting in 00 petite
– Blank NYC faux leather blazer starting in xs – several reviews indicate this one runs small!
Thank you to Nordstrom for partnering on this post.
Love your style, I follow you on instagram and am always amazed how you can literally wear everything even if you are petite like me 🙂

Hi! I was looking at the Nike Free run 2018 the other day and was wondering what you think about them? They are comfortable but do they seem to be wider that other Nikes?
Thought?
Thanks!
Hi Kiran, I have an older version (2017 I believe?) and have also tried on the 2018 ones. I find them to still be the most comfortable and lightweight sneakers out of the multiple Nike styles I own. I wouldn’t call it a wide fit personally, but the overall silhouette is not as sleek as some of their street styles (like the odyssey react) but I think that contributes to them being more comfortable.
I love the look of this outfit with your leopard pumps but for me personally, I would wear it with sneakers more since I am more comfortable in flats. I really love the look of this moto jacket unfortunately because of my broad shoulders sizing is a little screwy. I hope you had a great week and happy Friday!

Hi Jean, I love the look. What lipstick are you wearing? It’s a great shade with the camel scarf…
Thank you, Olivia! It’s Kat Von D liquid lipcolor in Lovecraft but I apply just a thin layer with my fingertip over lip balm, so it isn’t as opaque.
Love that you showed the same outfit with different shoes! Sometimes you don’t have time to go home and change and it’s nice to just be able to switch out shoes.

Hi Jean! I vaguely remember that you own a beautiful red Celine Nano. Out of curiosity, do you still own that bag? If so, do you remember the exact color of the name? Thank you so much!
Hi Jo! Yes I still have it and love the pop of color. Unfortunately I can’t find any info anymore about the color name. I just remember the store associate telling me it’s more of a bluish-red and they also have more orangey-reds, which are also beautiful!
Love that leather jacket on you — looking so chic! Love a good versatile outfit that works from casual to dressed up.

The “Sneaker” link on the first photo did not work.
Thanks for letting me know! Just fixed it. The style I’m wearing is called the Odysse React and is on Nike’s website. I linked their similar Free running shoes which I also own and find to be the most light & comfy of all Nike sneakers!
One of my favorite outfit combos too <3 🙂 A moto jacket really adds a nice touch of ruggedness to it! And those leopard heels are adorable!

Your site is a delight for input on dressing and accessorizing.
Wanted you to know that you are spanning all generations as I am 66 and travel quite a bit abroad. I just “cover up” more but still am a petite size 2.
Loved the Gucci belt tutorial.
So wonderful to hear that, Susan. Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment with your kind feedback!
I love all these variations! just goes to show how these pieces really are wardrobe staples.

I know someone already posted this- but would love to know what booties you are wearing and if they’re old if you know of anything out there similar. Thanks!
Hi Christina, it’s old Sam Edelman unfortunately, but check out Marc Fisher booties as they often have something similar! Their ankle boots always look so sharp.
I’m totally a booties type girl! adds a little heel, but still casual.
I so wear all three versions of this outfit! Changing my footwear is my favorite way to transform an everyday outfit into a going out look.
I think my fav way how you wore this outfit though is with the ankle boots – looks so well put together!

Hey Jean!
Super random question – would you mind posting that link to the Instant Pot mac and cheese recipe you had on Instagram a while back?
Thanks so much!!
Hi Jenn! https://www.familyfreshmeals.com/2017/07/creamy-instant-pot-mac-and-cheese.html
Nick’s coworker made it for us and it was a crowd favorite, but be warned it’s not light fare lol…
Such a great idea to show how versatile this outfit can be in a post!

This is one of my favourite outfit of yours, Jean! I’ve grown out of the whole sneaker trend but for some reason, I like the look with sneakers more than booties! So cute. Love the colours you chose too! 🙂 ❤️

Your jacket looks great! I just bought my first leather jacket. BCBG had a great sale in store this weekend and I got a jacket 50% off that was made of lamb leather. I have a review of it on my website!

I honestly love both shoe options! This is what’s great about this entire look, it’s just so versatile. Also, I commute to work, so I love that this ensemble would be great for the office and the walk home.

I purchased this coat recently thanks to your recommendation and absolutely love it! It carried me through an entire weeks worth of looks for a trip I just took! It fits perfectly and went with many different outfits! Thank you for sharing!!!
Wow, so glad to hear!
I just purchased these sunnies and cant wait to get them! Thanks for sharing, Jean! P.S. Love that you are still wearing pieces from years back 🙂 One of my goals this year is to spend less $$$ on clothes and be creative with what I already have in my closet!
Hope you like them, Annie! Accessories are a great way to keep your existing pieces fresh – I love the thin gold edges on these sunnies!
Are the sleeves a long on the Blank NYC jacket? I noticed it doesn’t come in a petite size.
Hi Jody, I’m wearing a regular XS. The sleeves are a little long on me but when you move your arms around and bend them, it rides up a bit which helps so doesn’t bother me. Check out my review on this jacket (linked within this blog post) for more photos of where the sleeves hit on me.
Hi Jean,
Would you link the boots? Thanks!
Hi! My boots are by Sam Edelman but they’re unfortunately a few years old. I hope they’ll bring them back!
Love your style for petite women. And congratulations on your baby and Good Housekeeping articl.e
