J.Crew fall // Stripe sweater + quilted field jacket

J.Crew sweater xxs (in stripes & solids), quilted downtown field jacket xxsp c/o, toothpick jeans 24p c/o, suede pumps sz 5.5 c/o (reviewed here), horseshoe earrings

The weather has been good to us lately in Boston, with a hint of the crisp Fall air that’s around the corner. For transitional weather, I’m all about comfy knits that can be dressed up with ankle pants or down with denim shorts. This J.Crew sweater in 100% cotton is a recent favorite purchase, and comes in either solid (love both fall-ready colors!) or stripes in a good quality medium-weight knit. Fit-wise, an xxs on me has just the right amount of slouch, and the banded neckline can sit either squarely on my shoulders in an elegant boatneck-style, or shrugged off one shoulder for a casual chic look.

I’m partnering with J.Crew today to share a few other new arrivals that just hit online! This jacket is a cross between two staples found in every New Englander’s closet: the quilted puffer vest, and the army green utility jacket. The resulting hybrid is a 100% cotton, machine-washable piece that’s substantial and warm, perfect for fall and spring (and mild winters, depending on where you live). My usual xxs petite fit well on me throughout, including the sleeve length (not too long), and you can adjust the back snap buttons to nip in the waistline and give it more shape. There’s an abundance of pockets, and I love the thicker chambray quilted lining with striped piping and sleeves. Note the gold buttons are a little shinier than what the stock photo shows.

If you like your denim on the thicker side and slim (but not super fitted), J.Crew’s toothpick jeans are a solid option that come in petite, regular and tall. Extended sizing starts in 23 petite, and the petite inseams actually fit someone my height or even shorter! This new style in their “Solano wash” (rugged dark blue with slight fading down the thighs) features a flattering high waist and length that hits right below my ankles. There’s a small waist gap on me, and the fit is slim but not tight. I also reviewed another toothpick jean in “Classic Rinse” (a solid, deep dark blue) in this blog post – in comparison the Classic Rinse pair is more fitted, with a mid-rise waistline and a more cropped length that hits above my ankles.

Measurements of Solano jeans sz 24 petite: 12.5″ across the waist, 16″ across the hips, 26″ inseam.
Measurements of quilted field jacket in xxs petite: 13.5″ across the shoulders, 16.5″ across the armpits, 21.5″ sleeve length, 23″ total length from shoulders to hem. Note the quilted lining is on the thicker side.

  21. I always wonder how you can find petite sizes that fit so good! I often shop for the smallest sizes hoping that they’d fit, but they usually only do half the time. I love the jacket you’re wearing!
