J.Crew Spring // Dotted Ruffles + Petite Toothpick Jeans

jcrew toothpick skinny jeans petites review

J.Crew dot top 00 (also comes in petites) c/o, suede pumps 5.5 c/o, J.Crew toothpick jeans in classic rinse sz 24 petite, beltdandelion earrings (5 colors!)

I’m a big fan of classic looks but with small twists or interesting detailing. The dots and ruffles make this one sweet little top from J.Crew, while the open shoulder design gives it some sultriness! I paired this more on-trend piece with simple dark ankle jeans and caramel suede pumps, both of which are wardrobe staples. To play up the dot pattern, I added these round dandelion earrings which I seriously can’t stop wearing lately (as you guys can probably tell). They are super lightweight on the ears so you won’t even notice they’re on!

I’ve gotten several questions on J.Crew’s toothpick skinny jeans, and ended up picking up a pair last month. This cut from them has rave reviews (especially from petite women), and is a good option for those looking for denim with no distressing or fading.

The color I’m wearing is “classic rinse” which is a true, dark solid blue, this same cut also comes in solid white or black. Their denim material has a thicker weight to it and a little less stretch than some of my other jeans. Sizing felt true to size and even goes down to tiny 23 petite, plus also comes in regular and tall sizing (I found a 24 petite to fit well on me with no waist gap). The petite length of this hit me at the upper ankle, so if you’re shorter, then these could fit perfectly as regular-length skinny jeans.

For anyone who missed out on sizing for the caramel suede heels I shared earlier this season, these Colette pumps are another classic option with a unique angled detailing in the front. They have suede uppers with a leather lining, a manageable mid 3.25″ heel, and the color is that deeper tan which I find very flattering (even more so against bare legs). I’m between half sizes and usually go with the bigger one for J.Crew pointed-toe heels.

I really love this look on you Jean. The cut, the colours, the details. Everything looks perfect together. One day I'll be able to afford J.Crew! One day.

This top is 30% off right now which brings it under $50. Might also check Jcrew factory in addition to the suggestions above for alternatives.

Warby Parker just recently introduced frames with lower bridges and you can filter them by width. My suggestion is to go somewhere like Nordstrom and try a bunch on and look at the numbers printed on the frames that work for you. They should be a series of numbers like XX-XX-XXX. The first number is frame width, second is nose bridge (problematic to measure and varies significantly), third number length of the arm that goes over your ear (less critical measurement). Memorize those and look for frames with similar dimensions. Numbers are in millimeters.

Yes, agree! I have had good luck with their size 000 offering in skirts. I remember the backlash they got when they introduced the 000 but really it is probably the equivalent of a 1990s 0 regular before regular was even a thing.

I'm glad it worked out for you! Yes I love that ASOS petites is one of the few brands that fits more true to size, unlike most American brands.

Hello – I spend a ton of time trying on sunglasses and have done a few posts in the past, so any of the ones I post and link on here are ones that have been "tried and true" for me. Fit is more style-specific and not brand specific, since I have sunglasses from all different brands, but not every style from those brands fit the same. I know some stores like Shopbop or Nordstrom now have a section online called special fit sunglasses, which were initially made for narrower faces and lower nose bridges. Brands like Ray-Ban and Illesteva also make narrower width frames or smaller lenses.

Hi there – I haven't seen anything else just like it, but brands like H&M;, F21 and Old Navy have a number of off-shoulder or cold-shoulders tops for less!

Agree on the wild fluctuations in sizing! I'm happy they offer down to 23p in jeans now, but wish they would sell the same size in skirts, which always seem to run bigger.

Hi Savita – I wear all of the denim brands you mentioned and haven't experienced (or noticed) much of the knee bunching you mentioned. I know we're all shaped differently and my knees could be wider or fuller. Maybe legging jeans would be a best bet for you since they are more stretchy and fitted to your legs?

Love the polka dots! My other half is visiting Boston next week – he often peeks over my shoulder when I'm browsing your blog, and I've told him to say hi if he sees you or Nick! He's 6'3"… so if a really tall British guy in a 3-piece suit approaches you looking sheepish (he'll have no idea what to say) then don't be alarmed! 🙂 Bethany xx

    Hi,Jean!
My ASOS SCALLOPED MINI SKIRT in chartreuse color arrived today.
I'm almost the same hight and weight as you, so I bought size 00P.
I was surprised this skirt runs really small. I pulled my skirt up, barely passed the fullest point of hip and could zip 🙂

I'm in love with this skirt! I don't know why but this skirt makes my legs look longer.
As I don't have Maison Jules lemon print top, I paired it to my LOFT's utility blouse 🙂
I'm sure I'll wear this years to come 🙂

I love all of your sunglasses – my problem is that sunglasses are often way too big on my face. Do you have this issue and if so what brands do you find fit on a smaller face? For me I know Kate Spade is one, but I haven't discovered any other "petite" sunglasses. I'd love a post on that!

I have your same measurements and have tried these J Crew jeans in the same size, but have found that they bunch pretty noticeably around the knees. Is this something you've found as well? If so, is there something you recommend for combatting the bunching? I've experienced this with a few other brands as well (Articles of Society, Paige, etc.).
