Mix and Match // Gingham sandals + floral print skirt

petite fashion blog spring summer elegant outfit ideas

Ann Taylor top (on sale! also worn here) xxsp c/o, Chicwish skirt xxs c/o, DY bracelet,
Betsy Johnson sandals sz 5 (runs narrow), Cuyana bag c/o (also worn here), earrings

This look is one of my recent favorites – I love remixing older pieces in my closet and experimenting with print pairings! I’ve shown this skirt here (read my fit review) with a button-up blouse and blazer, here with a ruffled sleeve top, and wanted a slightly cleaner, more elegant pairing for an event last month. The higher neckline and angled shoulders on this sweater top created sleek lines that help balance out the fullness of this skirt.

BP scalloped tote (50% off!), Modcloth cardigan xs, M.Gemi heels 35.5 (runs narrow)

To quickly make this appropriate for a business casual office, I’d add my trusty cropped cardigan to cover up the shoulders and swap out the sandals for closed-toe pumps. My faux leather scalloped tote bag (which fits a laptop and much more) is a complete steal right now, on sale for 50% off and currently stocked again in all three colors!

I’d typically go safe with neutral sandals for this look, but couldn’t resist working in a little whimsical mixed print with the gingham and floral. The rule of thumb is simple for mixing and matching – stick with prints in a similar color scheme, but with noticeably different pattern sizes!

I love following your blog and appreciate everything you share! I'm 5'2" with narrow ankles and calves and have been searching for above-the-ankle/mid-calf "stocking boots" or stretch boots that have a similar shape to the Stuart Weitzman 50/50s but at this shaft height. Any recommendations?

Hi Kate – thank you! The last time I went to Asia, the makeup artists all said the first order of business they had to take care of was to "flatten" my brows, lol! Apparently they don't really like arches there and prefer the brows to lay flatter over the eyes, which I know doesn't work for everyone's features. That look has grown on me since, so all I've been doing is overdrawing my own brows a bit in thickness, and flattening the brow line to be more horizontal instead of arched. I've tried all of Anastasia's brow products and currently am liking the Brow Powder (I use Ebony – it's dark, so apply with a light touch) best because it lasts for years. I'll try to do another makeup video or post soon, but hope that helps in the meantime!

Jean would you consider a brow tutorial? Pictures only would be fine if no time to do video. Love the more youthful, fuller brow look you've doing for some time now.
