Winter Wedge

sam edelman boots cardigan winter outfit boston

I love experimenting with all sorts of looks, but often find the most comfort in going back to basics. To me, good style doesn’t have to be complex or cost a fortune. A cozy cardigan, a flattering pair of jeans, and a chic yet comfy bootie as the finishing piece – these are elements to a very simple outfit, but a practical one that could take you from errands, to class, to meeting up with friends.

I’m partnering with DSW today, to share some cute shoes that’d make great closet basics and also carry you through winter. I’ve gotten requests to feature wedges, and would say these Sam Edelman booties fall in-between a true wedge and a block heel. The almond-shaped toe is sleek, and I chose the cognac suede as it looks flattering and lengthening against bare legs (for when the weather warms up)!

Another reason I love Sam Edelman is they tend to make booties with slightly narrower ankle openings compared to other brands, and every little bit counts when trying to minimize ankle gaps! The fit on these in the foot are true to size, slightly snugger and narrower in the toes than their Blake booties which I know several of you also own. I took a size 5 and could’ve sized up to 5.5 to accommodate regular socks.

For those who want a lower heel for everyday wear, here’s a few other versatile winter booties from DSW that caught my eye. These each have good customer reviews and are under $90:

Crown Vintage Sandy bootie starting in sz 5.5, with a 2.5″ stacked heel
Aldo Abiralle bootie starting in sz 5, with lots of colors and a 2.25″ block heel
Sperry Sweetwater duck boot (shown below!) starting in sz 5 with a mini 1″ heel

Thank you to DSW for partnering on this post. I’d love to hear about any of your recent shoe finds from there!

    Hey Jean!
Just wondering if you have ever tried to shrink clothings in the washer instead of paying ridiculous amounts for getting it altered? I have a coat that I really want to keep, but sadly I don't think they have any smaller sizes in the store that I can exchange it for. Let me know if you have any experience with it! thank you!

I love your blog! I got the banana republic cami after I saw you styled it and I happened to be wearing that today! One question though, did you alter it? I am pretty petite too and I got a xsp but there's no way I can wear this alone! It would show everything! lol. I love this top though, so I am thinking to have it altered. Thank you!
