Cashmere wrap sweater + coated skinny jeans

Nick has been on the west coast for work, so I decided to join for the weekend and get my fill of all the good food here! The weather is beautiful but still brisk at night, so I always have layers with me. This outfit features two versatile pieces from Neiman Marcus that are both on major sale right now! J.brand makes some of my favorite and best-fitting jeans, and this coated style is no exception. The material is a slightly elevated variation on regular denim and can easily be dressed up or down. They fit comfortably like a second skin on me, and depending on the lighting or angle, can either look like regular jeans or a little more luxe like matte leather leggings. All sizes are currently still in stock, which I have a feeling won’t be for long!

These jeans have a mid-rise cut, perfect for those who want something that’s not too high nor low. A size 24 is a close fit on me with about 2″ of extra length folded under here. I’ve been meaning to get them hemmed but haven’t been able to stop wearing ’em yet! This wash of denim will not need a pricier “original hem job” (when the tailor removes the original hem on jeans, and re-attaches it after cutting off excess length from the pant leg) because there is no fading or distressing at the bottom edge that needs to be preserved. A regular hem will suffice, and is very easy for tailors to do and usually inexpensive.

I have a weak spot for wrap-style tops – they have an understated elegance to them and look amazing with just basic jeans, pants, or tucked into skirts. This faux wrap sweater is in 100% cashmere, and you can easily change up the feel with a little tucking and styling. When worn simply untucked, it’s classic and office-friendly with a conservative neckline. By half tucking it into higher-waisted bottoms (see first photo in this post), it looks casual chic. And by shrugging one side a bit off the shoulder, it lends a more sultry look, perfect for showing peeks of a bralette or lace cami. A note on stock: several sizes are on “backorder” and I’m not sure how long that period might be – I had purchased two colors, both of which were marked as backorder, but the gray one shipped right away while the other still has not.

Neiman Marcus is running a Last Call sale with lots of goodies still left! I’d suggest checking out the accessories – here’s a few shoes I found still available in sizes 5, 5.5 and up:
UGG classic tall (20% off) or bow back boots (40% off)
Stuart Weitzman Highland boots in chestnut suede (I recently picked up this color!)
Stuart Weitzman block-heeled sandals in a classic tan color for over half off
Joie suede lace-up pumps for 65% off (see them on me here and here!)

Hi there – my current favorites are Patina from Stila (it paints on and dries a bit to stay put but still isn't very stiff) and Velvet Teddy from MAC!

Hi L – I honestly just wipe mine clean. To help keep the neckline clean on faux or real leather jackets in general, I usually wear a higher neckline top/sweater or scarf to keep it from excessive contact with my skin oils. If you're concerned about hygiene and bacteria (which I'm not sure even dry cleaning gets rid of, actually) maybe try the freezer trick where you put garments into a large plastic bag and allegedly kill bacteria with the cold from the freezer.

Hi – no they're not stiff like some coated jeans. They are pretty lightweight and pliable.

The coating on these is not thick… it says dry clean but I'm going to hand wash them inside out. You could also always try the freezer trick (to kill bacteria, allegedly)!

    Hi Jean!

This isn't related to the post, but it's a clothing care question that I thought you could answer.

Recently I got the Blank NYC Faux Leather Jacket (sold at Nordstrom) that you often feature in your blog and instagram (the on in your Blank NYC Faux Leather Jacket and Olive Lace Skirt review on Oct. 2013). Upon reading the care instructions, I realize there's a lot you can't do to clean it (no dry cleaning/machine wash)… except wipe clean. What would you recommend for keeping it clean, because I find that only wiping something clean isn't quite sufficient hygiene wise. Have you hand washed, thrown it in the washer? How does the jacket hold up against rain?

    Thanks Jean!
    L.
