Fall in Napa Valley // Flattering Plaid Wrap Coat

chicwish plaid wrap coat review extra petite boston

Now that Fall is pretty much over in the northeast, I’m finding comfort in cute coats to help me get through our long winters! This one has been online for a while, and I was convinced to purchase after seeing it look super cute on a friend. It’s fully lined with pockets, the material is warm, and the belted wrap style is forgiving and flattering on all body types. I packed it recently for Napa and wore it several times over various outfits!

This jacket just became available this month in size xxs, which I’m so glad I waited for. It’s a good fit on me with enough room to layer underneath. If you’re in-between sizes, I wouldn’t stress too much because the fit is adjustable due to the wrap style. The sleeves on the xxs fit fine on me lengthwise, though are a little wider than what I typically prefer.

My friend Krissy is wearing a size S below – she’s self-proclaimed petite and busty, thus with a different set of fit challenges! She recommends this jacket due to the flattering deeper V-neckline, which can be adjusted with the wrap style.

    Hi Jean,

I am petite like you as well! I find that a lot of the time, my skinny jeans aren't tight enough around my ankles for me to be able to tuck them into my boots without them looking rather odd (makes it more apparent that the ankle of my jeans isn't perfectly tight). Have you ever experienced this? I'm starting to think that there just aren't jeans that have a small enough opening.

    Hi Jean,

What kind of curling iron are you currently using? I've watched your hair curling tutorials but your curls in recent posts look different and are the exact curl I've been trying to achieve for years.

(Side note, your topknot bun has been life-changing! No flat head and actually holds my heavy Asian hair! I was in Budapest last week and wore my hair like this every day to the thermal baths. This style has been great for travel days, days I wake up late for work, and any time I'm in a pinch for time!)

Thank you for your feedback! I'll have someone look into the iPad view issue and see if we can resolve that. Nick works in advertising for non-fashion brands, and just takes my photos as a good sport : ) We usually have talented photographer friends take the photos of us together.

Hi – to be honest I don't look for nor avoid any shades in particular, and just judge colors on a case-by-case basis when trying on items. I usually also want to make sure there's enough contrast with my skin (except with nude pumps). When I was growing up I was always told to avoid yellow due to my skin tone, but that seems silly as there's so many different tones of yellow, and I find some to be quite flattering!

Hi there – I asked them and they said guest checkouts do not get an email confirmation, just the one from Paypal. You should be able to email their customer service to get any info on order status in a few days!

Hi Jean, how much attention do you pay to how your clothes complement your skin tone? I've noticed you wear both warm and cool colors so I was wondering how you manage that. Thanks!

Hi Jean, I placed an order on Chicwish for the first time this morning (i.e. many hours ago) but still have not received an email confirmation from them (though I do have the email receipt from PayPal checkout). Is the delay a common occurrence from your experience? (Or any reader would like to share your experience too.) I also did not sign up for a Chicwish account and I wonder whether that was why.

Hi Jean- well the interesting thing is (I'm usually on my iPad when I read your blog) I have your page bookmarked. When the "bookmark" list is open on the left hand side of my screen, your social media buttons are conveniently fixed right at the bottom of the screen. I like that feature a lot. However, when I swipe the bookmark list closed to enlarge the full page of your blog, the social media buttons then fall to the bottom of your scroll page. I know I can get to your instagram other ways so it's not that big an issue. I like to do "searches" as well on your blog (like I was curious what you thought of the Logan pants at BR the other day as well as Sloan pants and Modern pants at AT and I did a Burberry search bf too among many many other searches). You have so much great research you've done. It's so helpful! But that feature is all the way at the bottom of your blog too.

It's a wonderful blog you keep!! I would love to hear more about Nick and his fashion photography in general and his photography of you- maybe more out takes or bloopers? I like when the both of you are together in your photos. Who takes pix of you both when he is in the pic?
    Happy holidays!

Hi! I personally like this coat but I don't want to raise your expectations, because I do think the photos reflect how it looks in real life. And oh my friend Krissy is a florist – she doesn't blog, so I just linked to her Instagram : )

Regarding your question about the social media buttons, I want to make sure your reading experience is smooth, so I appreciate feedback! Do you read in mobile view or desktop view? On mobile, the social media buttons should be fixed at the bottom of your screen at all times, and on my blog they are currently at the upper right hand sidebar. If you don't see the buttons at these places, please let me know and also what browser / operating system you're viewing it under so I can fix it!

Hi Jean! I'm glad you posted this again (maybe I saw it bf on your instagram). The first time it didn't strike me as particularly interesting, but when you said you saw it on your friend first and really liked it, I thought this coat must look better in real life than in photos. I think I'll try it now that I've seen both you and your friend Krissy wearing it. 2 questions- when I click the link to "Krissy" it looks like a florist and not the girl standing beside you in the photo. 2ndly- I have a small question about your blog website…if you ever revise or remodel your webpage in the future, do you think you could move your social media buttons/ search feature to the top of your page rather than having to scroll all the way to the bottom of your entries to access those features? Nothing major or that important. Just wondering! Thanks for your expertise!

Hi Jonalyn! No I wouldn't say this is a coat for 20-30 degrees. It won't replace a parka for cold winter days. Everyone has different winter tolerances and layering preferences, but personally I'd wear this down to the ~40s, maybe high 30s with a thick sweater underneath.

Hey Jean! Always love your style! How long would you say this coat would last through the winter? Meaning to say…our winters here in VA are generally around 20-30 degrees – would you say that the lining on the coat would withstand temperatures of that sort?
