Cascading Classics: draped trench coat + windowpane dress

Club Monaco trench xs (sleeves shortened), Maison Jules dress xxs c/o

For me, a good fit & flare dress that grazes the right places is an instant confidence and mood booster! This windowpane one also comes in a lower-maintenance color, has enough coverage to be worn on its own for work, and is petite-friendly with no alterations needed. Due to the neutral scheme, you can easily pair it with black or colored tights (I can see it with dark wine, olive, navy, etc) when the weather cools, and top it off with a blazer or cropped cardigan (love this one, which comes in so many new colors!). It’s one of those dresses you’ll want to keep reaching for, when you need to look polished and put-together without too much time nor thought.

Here’s the Club Monaco trench again with the lapels draped a little wider and more loosely for a more structural look. To answer a recent question, my favorite color out of all the options is probably the pretty Shadow gray, if I didn’t already own a draped gray trench (see my review). You can see the Shadow on me at the bottom of this post. Olive is online-only so I haven’t seen it in person, and the Khaki Stone which I own is a fairly standard khaki color.

Measurements of this dress in size xxs: 13″ across the shoulders, 14.5″ across the armpits, 12″ across the waist, 17.5″ sleeve length, and 33.5″ total length. It fits me very well proportionately (for reference, I’m about 5 feet tall), and even the sleeves are not too wide which I usually have issues with. The material is medium-weight, pretty stretchy, and unlined with windowpane pattern printed onto it – oh, and the dress is machine washable!

This is one of my favorite little belts with a Chanel-inspired chain look. I punched an extra hole in the xs using my leather hole puncher, and just wrap the excess tail into a small loop. Mine is an older color, but they still sell it in a classic black color and a pretty wine.

Gwyneth, I'm 5'0" petite, a whole 90lbs soaking wet and am a little busty..(32DD). But, I've found that J. Crew's 000P blazers work best for me. Definitely not snug in the waist. But, can be left unbuttoned without looking frumpy. I hope this helps!

That dress is adorable! I have a big job interview coming up, and I love your idea of paring it with a blazer. Speaking of interviews; do you have any blazer recommendations for petite women? I'm looking for something that will play well with a nice dress and a pair of boots, but everything I've tried on (Banana, Loft, etc.) has been far too wide in the waist. If you have any, I'd love some recommendations!

it's beautiful but I don't think I can afford $3600 for the outfit…You have changed so much in the last couple of years, and it's just getting more and more expensive…..

    Such a cute dress!

Also, been meaning to ask – when you get your photos taken in public, does it make you nervous when people see you getting your pictures taken? Sometimes, when I'm in public, I'll ask my boyfriend to take my photo because I like my outfit and then I'll see people glance a bit and I'll get nervous. One time, I had someone snicker and laugh so it used to make me really nervous to have my photos taken in front of people so I'd always ask my boyfriend to take it when no one's there or looking. Have you ever felt that way? If so, how did/do you deal with it?

I've been searching for a long sleeved fit and flare dress for awhile that doesn't drape all over me, I also usually find the sleeves too long. I'm so glad to see the fit on this one so flattering and the sleeves are perfect lengths.

Jean, love this dress, looks so cute on you. You mentioned that it fit well – did it fit well in the bust? I'm similar in size as you but larger in bust and wondering if I should size up. Thanks!
