NYFW hair diaries: sideswept waves + Alice & Olivia SS ’17 show

For my last look with TRESemmé during NYFW (see my first and second looks), I put together this black on black pairing for the Alice & Olivia presentation. To add softness to an all-leather look, we styled my hair down but with an unexpected element in the back!

To keep my hair secured off to the side all day, my stylist added a side braid which wrapped around my head and flowed into the loose waves, finished off with TRES Two Extra Hold Hairspray. It was almost like a different look from each side of my face…one half felt more romantic and one edgier, similar to the mix of delicate lace with leather in my outfit.

For petite ladies looking for designer brands that fit, A+O makes some beautiful pieces with hints of whimsy, and usually runs pretty narrow fit-wise. I’m wearing sample sizes (approx. size 2 / 4) from their showroom in these pieces, so a 0 might fit someone my size perfectly off the rack.

Backstage at Alice & Olivia, the TRESemmé team was bustling around, styling each model into one of these two braided hairstyles below. Stacey Bendet’s next collection was inspired by the gardens of Italy, and incorporated her usual whimsy alongside classic Audrey Hepburn-esque touches like headscarves and big sunglasses:

While snapping the models’ looks, I was greeted with a big hug by one of the TRESemmé stylists from my wedding day! It was such a nice surprise to see him again, and he walked me through this long fishtail braid that he then wrapped into a bun:

The models with braided buns were finished off with turban scarves that coordinated with their looks. I just loved this effortlessly chic look and can’t wait to try recreating it:

This was the second look for hairstyles backstage – full, tousled double fishtail braids to complement Stacey’s collection. To achieve this look, I watched the stylists start by prepping damp hair with TRESemmé Perfectly (Un)Done Wave Creation Sea Foam.

After curling the hair for loose waves and creating a fishtail braid on each side of the head, an interesting tip was to add small elastics throughout the mid-lengths of the braid to create more shape.

The stylists then used their fingers to tease out pieces from the braids for a wispy, undone effect, before finishing the look with TRESemmé Perfectly (Un)Done Brushable Hold Hairspray for a touchable hold. This pretty model was my favorite with her head full of strawberry blonde hair!

Here she is at the presentation in all her wispy braided glory…and my retro-loving side is just dying a bit over all the cat-eyed frames!

Given my growing collection of bell-sleeved pieces, I was happy to see this detail will be going strong, at least through next summer!

Leaving you guys with this silky tiered stunner from the presentation – how gorgeous, styled with those face-framing loose bangs and printed headscarf?

Stunning look for you, really superb. IN addition, your makeup is really transformative–you look so youthful (not that you don't always, of course). But this look changes your face for an amazing alternative version of you. Incredibly beautiful.

Hi Jean, great post with Alice + Olivia. I have never tried this brand but will check them out soon. Your hair looks amazing again; definitely a unique look to pair with your leather/lace outfit. And I agree, almost different looks depending on what side of your face you're viewing it from. That's great to hear it stayed in place all day with Tresemme products! I'm a loyal Aveda hair care user so may not be changing products but hairstyle inspiration is always appreciated!
