Fall Coral + Gray // Yumi Kim skirt + Missguided petite moto jacket

yumi kim skirt coral orange gray fall outfit
Missguided petite faux suede jacket 0p (lots of colors aval. in regular!), BP sweater xxs
Yumi Kim jersey skirt sz S c/o Shopstyle (dress version), Steve Madden heels, YSL bag

While in NYC, I stayed with my dear friend Wendy who now lives on the east coast (to my delight : ). Somehow, she doesn’t own a single full-length mirror, which is an anomaly for anyone trying to put together a decent outfit let alone a fashion blogger! I’ll admit this did speed up the getting-ready process each morning, since I just prayed each outfit looked ok rather than change a dozen times!

For this outfit I did a play on complementary colors (opposites on the color wheel), but with more muted shades of coral and steely gray in lieu of bright orange and blue. I kept wearing this skirt because I love the print and how comfy it is, not realizing how the length looked on me.
The hem hits at an awkward “in-between” spot against my legs and would be more flattering either longer or shorter, so I’ll be getting this shortened to fit like on the model. The stretchy waist runs pretty small, the jersey is soft to the touch, and I love that there are functional pockets. It’s my first Yumi Kim piece and makes me excited to try more from the brand.

Here is this sweater tank yet again in the third way I’ve worn it on this trip (see it also styled here with shorts and here with jeans): tucked into a printed skirt and topped off with a differently-textured jacket. The faux suede material on my jacket is like a velvety fabric, and the weight is on the thin side with a full lining.

I’m wearing the petite sizing in this jacket, which is unfortunately almost sold out in gray (found a few remaining here) but still available in a pretty mink color. In regular sizing, the same “faux suede biker jacket” comes in over TEN fall-ready colors and is fully in-stock in the same gray color. FYI Missguided is a UK fast fashion brand which runs smaller than most American stores, not to mention this jacket style is very cropped, so the regular sizing might still work on someone petite.

Hi Jean! Love your blog, especially how you wear pieces from different budget ranges! I was wondering if you ever cut the skirt shorter like you were saying? If so, was it better?

Hi Neha – thank you so much! I'm wearing size 0P in the jacket. I wish they would make more colors in petites! If it helps for future reference, I usually list the sizes I get and any alterations right below the first image.

Hi Jean, I love this outfit you look amazing, what size did you get in the jacket? Shame the grey has sold out in the smaller sizes.

Hello – thank you for your kind comment and I really appreciate you reading for so long! Workwear for me has been changing with my jobs, from dressing for a more formal environment to more casual ones. Now that I work for myself, I dress differently than before but still have meetings weekly that I want to look professional and put-together for. I'll try to post those looks whenever I wear them (like the Ann Taylor navy trousers outfit) and will definitely keep your request in mind. Sometimes my casual outfits can simply be tweaked to fit various work environments (for example, replacing skinny jeans with slim ankle pants), so I'll try to point those out too whenever possible.

Jean, I love your blog and I've been following it for years at this point. Can you do more posts of your workwear? You reference what you wear to work but usually don't post photos. You don't need to do extensive commentary, but I'd love to see your work style, as that's what I try to model 🙂

I didn't do much walking while in NYC to be honest (took uber from point to point) but at home in Boston I wear flats often and usually keep a change of shoes with me. I also hate ironing and prefer a handheld steamer. I don't dry clean my clothes often and actually wash them in my machine in the handwash/delicates cycle with delicates liquid wash from either Nordstrom or the Laundress!

Hi! Compared to US brands, this jacket fits on the slimmer side in the sleeve area. If you want to wear a thin shirt or sweater underneath on the arm area I'd definitely suggest sizing up, and going with regular sizing instead of petite so it's not too cropped. Also I want to note this is faux suede so it's a thinner fabric than suede and light in weight.

Hi! I don't really have any guidelines on how to use the color wheel, but I personally find it helpful just to reference, especially when trying to style brightly colored pieces. I like outfits incorporating neighboring colors as well as complementary/opposites!

Can you do a posts about ironing or steam ironing and what you prefer and also about how you care for your clothes? I'm exasperated with caring for my business attire and dry cleaning so getting expensive. I hate ironing and I'm terrible at it. Also, how do you walk around the city in platforms, clogs, and stilettos?

I love this whole outfit but really would like to get this jacket- perfect for fall! I am just over 5'3", on the "tall" side of petite, and usually get an XS with jackets. I know UK sizing runs a bit smaller so I am wondering your thoughts on how small/tight this jacket fits. Ideally, I would like to wear this over tanks, t-shirts, and even a light/thin long-sleeved shirt or sweater. How is the arm fitting on your jacket?
    Thanks 🙂
