Hello from Hong Kong! Nick and I are here for a few short days visiting family, snapping our way around the city as we explore. This is one of my super casual tourist outfits for strolling around, comprised of simple yet classic pieces. The denim jacket around the waist not only serves as a backup layer for places with chilly AC blasting, but also adds interest to the outfit, and bonus – protects the bottom of white jeans from getting dirty when you sit down!
Since white jeans have proven to be so versatile in my wardrobe year-round, I wanted another pair (my basic white skinnies have been these Article of Society ones) but with distressing. I love a thicker white denim, skinny fit and with minimal sheerness. I probably tried on no less than a dozen options, and found two styles at Nordstrom that were good quality and fit the bill. As a bonus, they are both ankle or cropped styles so no hemming even needed!
The material on these J.Brands has that thicker denim with good “hold” that I look for in higher-end denim. The distressing is almost patched on and feels sturdy, not like my knees will bust through it after just a few wears. Other potentially petite-friendly similar white jeans include these J.Brand distressed skinny jeans in a 27″ inseam and these AG The Legging cutoffs with a 27.5″ inseam, both of which I haven’t tried personally.
The other style I tried on and liked were these Hudson ankle jeans. A few notable differences between these and the J.Brand ones: In comparison, Hudson’s length is about an inch longer, bottoms are frayed hem, there are slightly more distressing patches throughout the jeans, the rise is a little higher at mid-rise, and the back pockets are bigger.
Leaving you guys with a little story from behind the scenes of this post…while shooting this outfit yesterday amongst throngs of people on a busy street of Hong Kong, a ruggedly handsome British man approached us to introduce himself (also a Nick!). I’ve been so into my Soludos shoes lately, so imagine my gleeful reaction when he said he’s the founder of the brand! He was staying at our hotel and just happened to spot their striped espadrilles on my feet. We ended up chatting for quite a bit about the styles and my fit & comfort feedback which Nick said he appreciates hearing – love a company that listens to customers with open ears!
Thank you Nordstrom for partnering on this post!
Love the Madewell pocket tee, it's the perfect basic tee shirt, so comfy and cute too. Thanks for suggesting it!
Hi Jean, do your soludos run true to size?
Hi Jean, how comfortable are the stripped espadrilles? I was about to order them, but after reading the last reviews, I'm not so sure anymore. I like my shoes to be wide enough in the toe area. Would love to have your input before ordering them. Thank you in advance!
I read your blog regularly and hear you rave about the Sloan Pants and the Articles of Society jeans. I had no idea they would fit me as well as they did. I'm 5'2" and 103 lbs with muscular thighs. A few months ago, I found a pr of Navy Sloan Pants in a 0P at BR for less than $20 and snatched them up. OMG they fit perfectly. Now today, I needed a pr of sand or stone colored pants for a volunteer post. I went to Off 5th and tried on 10 pairs with nothing to my liking. Then it was 2 doors down to Nordstrom's Rack. The only thing I found remotely close was a lonely pair Articles of Society skinnies in my size for $29.95. Oh, it fit like butter except the length. I washed and dried them hoping to shrink them a bit. I can't wait to wear them. Thanks for the great tips!
I found the perfect pair of white jeans last month…The AG Stevie Ankle Whites are perfect, love the texture (not rough denim) and the fit is great without the flesh sheerness that I can't seem to shake off other brands. Try them out!
Thank you so much for the reply! You always manage to make it all look and sound so easy. Hopefully I can pull it off 🙂
Thanks! It's MAC obi orange
