work outfit shift dress drape cardigan pearls

Bobeau drape cardigan in “mink,” Sole Society heels (sizes mostly gone)

This dress from Ann Taylor looks very simple in the stock photo, but I fell in love after trying it on. As several reviewers mentioned, the shift design feels timeless and Jackie-O inspired, and oh how I enjoy the pockets! If you aren’t familiar with boiled wool, it has a nubbly texture that helps winterize this piece. I can see it being worn layered both under and over tops like turtlenecks and thin sweaters well into our chilly springtime.

Off the rack, this dress in size 00 petite hit at a demure length right at the top of my knees. I had 3 inches hemmed off for a shorter style, but asked my tailor to leave most of the extra material in case I wanted to let it back down in the future. The boiled wool-blend material is stretchy to grace over curves and is fully lined with an invisible back zip.

And the Bobeau drape fleece cardigan is back! I’m wearing xxsp in the mink color and am happy it’s still in such decent shape given how much I wore/abused it last year.

Really like fleece items but they tend to come in very casual styles (hoodies, pullovers, sweats etc). What I like about your cardigan is that it's dressier than most fleece styles. I've been eyeing this Polar Fleece Blazer from Land's End in the celestial blue in warm grey. It's got pockets, dressier and has the comfort of warm fleece. Land's End currently has a code for 40% off a regular price. It's PUMPKIN with pin 4606.

That dress is such a pretty blush color! It looks great the way you styled it and I imagine it also works well with tights, for when temperatures begin to drop even more. I love the nice shape and movement that waterfall cardigan adds to this outfit.

Love the colors! I'm impressed with how you styled the cardigan, because I never would have thought that's what it would look like, based on how it appears on the Nordstrom website. I love your classic, chic style!

It looks very timeless indeed. Too bad I don't like dry clean only clothes as dry cleaning is rather expensive where I live.

First of all, I like the outfit a lot. I am thinking about buying the cardigan but I'm not so sure about the size. Can you maybe tell me how tall you are, so I get a better og the lenght?! That would be awesome.

Jean. I gotta tell you, I wouldn't look twice at these outfits if I saw them online and they always look better on you than the models – every time! I share your stylish taste and really appreciate reading your posts because you have helped me pull things together that I would never have considered before. I have made many, many (too many) purchases from your recommendations. And the way you described boiled wool is spot on. I've always wanted something in this material. Unfortunately, the sz 2P is all sold out at Ann Taylor, but that's ok. Something else will come up for me. Thank you Jean.

    • Jean October 15, 2015 at 4:33 pm

Thanks for the tip on their sale! Yes I agree, very rare to find fleece items in dressier formats.

    • Jean October 15, 2015 at 4:34 pm

Hi Anu! Yes I have to admit, you can probably tell by how often they show up on here : )

    • Jean October 15, 2015 at 4:34 pm

Hi Evelyn! It's Essie's Hot Coco

    • Jean October 15, 2015 at 4:35 pm

Thank you, Lex! Stock photos are so often misleading…it's always a nice surprise when items look better in-person!

    • Jean October 15, 2015 at 4:36 pm

I am doing some experiments on washing dry clean only items carefully at home and will be doing a post soon – stay tuned!

    • Jean October 15, 2015 at 4:36 pm

Hi Anna! I'm about 5 feet tall. Hope that helps!

    • Jean October 15, 2015 at 4:37 pm

Hi Valeri – you are so sweet, thanks for your kind comment!

    • Unknown October 15, 2015 at 4:56 pm

      what size is your cardigan?

    • Linda McDonough October 15, 2015 at 8:35 pm

Beautiful out Jean! What color tights would you wear with this?

    • Anonymous October 15, 2015 at 8:37 pm

What color tights would you suggest wearing with this when it gets colder in Boston (which is now)!

    • Paola October 16, 2015 at 4:07 am

I love this color combo, you look so chic!

    • Angogh's aunt October 18, 2015 at 11:05 pm

I happened to have purchased the dress (before I saw it on you) and wore it today with pearls. I liked that you are wearing it fairly loose, as I chose to do this as well. It looks lovely on you.

    • Alba Martinez October 22, 2015 at 2:33 pm

I love the Sole/Society shoes! I've never had a pair…how comfortable are they?

    • Anonymous October 23, 2015 at 4:03 pm

LOVE this color combination. I wonder where i can get this drape cardigan? the link seems does not work : (

    • Jean October 23, 2015 at 6:20 pm

      xxs petite

    • Jean October 23, 2015 at 6:20 pm

Thanks, Linda! I'd wear this dress with grey tights…love the combo of pink and grey for winter!

    • Jean October 23, 2015 at 6:21 pm

I would wear the dress with grey tights, however I get so sick of tights outfits during Boston winters I usually just commute in any color pair and remove them once I get to wherever I'm working for the day.

    • Jean October 23, 2015 at 6:21 pm

      Great minds think alike!

    • Jean October 23, 2015 at 6:22 pm

Hi – I find it differs based on style. My Anneke low heels from them and these are really comfortable for heels!

    • Jean October 23, 2015 at 6:22 pm

Thank you! I just checked the link and they are working…might've just been a temporary site glitch! They're Bobeau brand.

    • Ashley October 26, 2015 at 10:38 pm

Is your cardigan the one w the button? If so, did you snip it off?

    • Jean October 28, 2015 at 10:03 pm

Yes, it is and yes I did!

    • Anonymous December 9, 2015 at 11:50 am

Who is your tailor? I am also near boston but I am so afraid of getting things tailored and having it come out wrong =/

    • Shannon December 9, 2015 at 11:50 pm

Do you hand wash your Bobeau cardigans or can you get away with putting them in the delicate cycle (perhaps in a laundry bag) without it shrinking?
