Cole Haan Friends & Family sale

cole haan over the knee marina boots

‘Tis is the season of friend & family sales – Saks‘ is going on now through 10/18 with code THANKYOU for 25% off (but with a dizzying list of brand exclusions), and Cole Haan‘s just started with 30% off using code FRIENDS30. They have free ground shipping on orders over $150 and free 2-day shipping for orders over $250. Nordstrom is price matching but sizes appear to be going more going quickly on their site.  Today is also the last day for Shopbop’s friends and family sale! I updated my sale post here with some of my favorite denim that I missed or thought were excluded.

I’ve been a longtime Cole Haan customer for their quality and comfort technology (they also make wide foot widths and extended calf fits!), but have to say I often thought their styles were on the mature side. This season though I think they knocked it out of the park with a few styles including the classic Marina over-the-knee boots I’m wearing above, and some of my picks below. The Marina are not inexpensive but I find them to be absolutely worth the sale price. I’m usually between a size 5 and 5.5 and did get a 5 in these, however after a few wears I wish I got 5.5 so I could wear thicker socks. Nordstrom did not have the “stormcloud suede” color when I got mine…I went to check it out in-person and it’s a gorgeous and versatile slate grey.

Cole Haan’s website does something that I absolutely love. Under the “size & fit” area, they list out the shaft height and circumference measurements for every single size in their tall boots! I’ve never seen this before and it is so helpful, since both of these measurements can change considerably based on shoe size. Using this info, below are some potentially petite-friendly suggestions in adorable, classic styles. I only wish they would list out the ankle opening measurement for all of their ankle booties as well (only saw some).

1. Barnard boot in black or grey. This is the lower shaft and slightly lower heel version of my Marina boots. Size 5 has measurements of 15 and 5/16th shaft height, and 12 and 5/16th shaft circumference. Based on your shin and leg lengths, this could hit very differently either below, at, your knees or right above them so definitely compare measurements to your legs.

2. Rockland boot in chestnut brown or black. It has a ruched material back similar to some Aquatalia styles which helps with fit, and the one review said it fit her small calves and narrow feet well. Size 5 is listed to have a shaft height measurement of 14 and 12/16th inches, and a circumference of 13 inches.

3. Hayes bootie in black or olive suede. I just love the look of these! Nordstrom has more colors but is only price matching on the ones that Cole Haan also has. The ankle opening appears to be narrower than most booties, and looks very flattering in the one customer photo that’s been uploaded.

4. Tali Luxe boot in black or grey. For those who prefer comfortable low wedges instead of heels. Based on the description, these appear to be an updated, modern version of their Tali Grand signature boot, and the differences are evident in the comparably slimmer measurements. The size 5 in these are listed to have a 14 and 10/12th height, 12 and 15/16th inch calf circumference, and 13.5″ shaft opening.

Don’t forget your men, and their online outlet is also included in the F&F; sale. I didn’t see too much there, but these Hinckley booties look adorable (ankle measurements are listed under size & fit) and are a good price for Cole Haan after the additional discount.

Hi Jean, How did you protect your Marina suede boots? I am considering purchasing the Barnard boots but am a little wary because of the suede material (and I live in NYC). Thank you!

Hm..weird. When I use the link it does not redirect me. I tried using another browser as well and got the same result. Also have used multiple internet connections. Not sure if you use multiple affiliate links, but the affiliate you used for the Shopbop friends and family sale post doesn't work for me. I would think others have this same problem, but maybe not. It may be something to do with my settings. If you (or anyone else) can think of any other solutions, please let me know. I love being able to click on the links and easily purchase online. Thanks!

The fit is great though I wish the color was a little brighter – it's definitely darker than what it looks like online. I do love the polished look of it, especially the little gold accent at the top of the boot.

These are great picks. Love the grey! I also love seeing a nice heel height but not one that's crazy. One of the mistakes petites make is going for too high a heel, which, in a skirt or dress, makes us appear shorter. These heels are perfect.

Hi again Anu! I'm not sure if I would wear over the knee boots for teaching, however I don't know the dress code and style environment of the school you work at. The height just makes them a little more fashion forward. I think below the knee boots or ankle booties could be very appropriate though!

I'm so happy to hear that! I'm continuously pushing myself as well to take style risks and try new things. Also thanks for the confirmation on the Rockland boots. How do you like them? I haven't seen them in person.

Hi there – I would pair it with either a cropped style top or a thin one that you can tuck in, should be fitted to balance out the fullness of their crinkled skirt (if it's the one I'm imagining!). I don't have any specific pieces to recommend, but color scheme-wise I think a cream, black, grey, or patterned top would look nice and fall with it.

Hi there – boots are so so hard to shop for due to fit, so I've found myself compromising on some things if all the other elements are there (ie. my Aquatalia boots have suede and I had ideally wanted all leather, but they fit wonderfully). I agree with you I'd also prefer all leather, but unfortunately I don't have any recommendations for such a boot that would fit petite legs. Perhaps stop by a store and try on a pair to see how they look on you?

Hi there – I use affiliate links on this site so there may be an intermediary routing link for some items. I just copy and pasted the long link above into my browser, and it redirected in a few seconds to J.Brand Maria jeans which I was linking to. Usually the redirection should be instantaneous but I wonder if it can be slower based on internet connection speed? Try hitting the refresh button on the links to see if that does the trick!

Hi Jean, I've been following your blog for a couple years now and love it! I am not petite but my style is very similar to yours so I have gotten so many ideas from you for outfits and shopping. I also take fashion risks now due to you and go and explore stores I never did before (ie. Talbot's – where I snatched an amazing long vest today!)
Just wanted to confirm that the Rockland Boot is indeed on sale – got it from the store today at the 30% off!
Keep up the awesome work! My wardrobe has definitely been upgraded ever since i started following your blog!

I just bought a crinkled full skirt from H&M; in taupe color and came across your blog while I was searching for tip how to pair it with. So today I want to drop by to ask for your fashion tip which top and where I could get to pair it with the skirt? Oh by the way I'm planning on wearing it to a friends wedding next month. Thanks XOXO:)

Out of all the riding boots I own, I have to say Cole Haan's boots are definitely the most well made ones. For so many years I wore them, I did not have to change the soles once! One of my favorite pairs are these vintage ones I wore throughout college and after. Many of the boots I buy now are from designer brands, but the edges of the soles start peeling off so easily and I had to put on new soles. Hands down Cole Haan has the most well made boots!

Hi Jean, I love the Rockland boots and have been going to the Cole Haan site multiples times per week since these boots came out but haven't been able to convince myself to buy it. Its the ideal kind of boot I am looking for, dressy streamline toes, low height (I can't wear the tali boot for walking for e.g.), no frills like buckles etc. so basically a classic design that goes with jeans and skirts.

What's stopping me from buying it is the stretched non leather back. This makes the boot a lot more casual instead of dressy.

What do you think? Do you have recos for a similar boot all leather no buckles & streamlined toes?

Hello ~ I definitely wouldn't wear over-the-knee boots to a professional office. If you work in a creative industry such as fashion or advertising, etc, I would but not for a more conservative industry like accounting, finance, law or medical.

Very Pretty… and I will have to check these out. Curious what your thought is about where to wear these boots. You show them pictured with a very classic and work appropriate dress on Instagram… what's your opinion on this outfit (or the others from your linked post) for the office? The conservative in me says that OTK boots would be risque (even in my creative west coast office) but I might be stuck in traditional east coast (NJ born) thinking. Fashion has come a long way and sometimes I'm unsure what's acceptable NOW. I can't help but think that my choice to wear boots like these … (like a dress that has a zipper up all the back)… on a regular office day is a bit soliciting… How do you feel about it?
