San Diego: Wedding at Stone Brewery

Hello from the sunny West coast! We had a blast at the wedding of Mike & Kelly, whom we initially met through blogging and have gotten to know well over several years. As a craft beer enthusiast, Nick’s eyes were as wide as saucers when he found out their venue was Stone brewery (and again when there was open bar prior to the ceremony). Watching an already sweet union was made even better with a glass of beer or wine in hand!

I didn’t pack much for my work travels, but can always rely on my thoughtful friend Wendy to come with a suitcase of fabulous options in tow. It was a tough choice between this flirty lace flounce dress and this Malene Birger tweed number (old style) that I’ve lusted after for years! The lace won out, and given the 6+ hour duration of the wedding, I opted for these comfy low-heeled pumps yet again. I pack these when I don’t have an outfit fully planned out yet since the color will end up going with everything.

And the happy newlyweds with their traditional Thai flower garlands. Congrats again Kelly and Mike – wishing you both a lifetime of happiness!
jean wendy jen weddingAlso enjoyed getting to catch up with Jen and Wendy…apparently lace was the fabric of the night! We spent most of our time hovering by the poke tuna + guacamole tacos (amazing) and their homemade cookies & ice cream station.

On the note of fellow bloggers, I loved getting to meet sweet Tam and her husband earlier this month! It’s always fun recognizing favorite pieces like this LOFT tweed sweater jacket from last year.

ASOS petite coat, Banana Republic pants (shrunk in dryer for ~10 minutes), LOFT blouse

And lastly, a snapshot from a quick meeting in beautiful Seattle. PS – this ASOS petite coat is back in stock in all sizes! You can see I wear it quite often, since it transitions well from professional to casual outfits. If interested, please see more photos and my commentary in this older post. The size 00 petite is very slim and fit without alterations, but size up if you want to wear thick layers underneath. The weight is also light for a coat, so best suited for fall or milder winter days.

Hello – I would suggest looking at H&M; online, or in store if you have one locally. For your daughter's age and size, I think an H&M; size 2 from their "divided" department (intended for teen girls or "juniors") should work perfectly. Here is an example: http://www.hm.com/us/product/38717?article=38717-A&fromSearch;=lace%20dress&cm;_vc=SEARCH#article=38717-D The green looks nice for holiday, and they have more exciting and fashion-forward options too. I tried it on and the sz 2 was very small. The dress I'm wearing here is DKNY and I think it is now sold out.

Hi Elizabeth – that is very kind of you to say. Different things work for everyone and I'm not a health expert so this is just what works for me. I eat small portions for meals but more frequently (4 to 5 times) throughout the day, versus three larger meals. I run about once a week and try to do toning exercises at home, like lifting light weights or pilates videos (I love doing Blogilates workouts on YouTube…they are hard but feel good afterwards!).

Hi KC, I believe she did, since she has a fabulous tailor who really understands proportions. I have shopped at Aritzia before and find the fit to generally be really great! Thanks for sharing the link to that dress. It looks super similar to the DVF and a classic option for holiday.

Lol…I wouldn't call it "common" and "boring" – more so a wardrobe foundation piece. It has a lot of the elements that I like in clothes, such as good drape which equates to good fit, machine washable, comfortable, easily layer-able plus is lightweight and comfortable. It's easily dressed up with necklaces, jackets, scarves, or vests if you like that kind of look!

Hi Stacey – I haven't tried this year's Thinsulate Lady Day so I don't know what's changed, if anything from prior years. They have had 25% off full priced items on occasion so far this season, so if you want to make sure your size is in stock then that would be as good a time as any to pull the trigger because the last time I checked, most colors were sold out already! Nuts! After christmas is when they can become cheap on extra discounts, but by then it's really the luck of the draw with sizes and colors that might pop back from returns. Please also note that although I wear my lady day coats regularly in the winter, some readers have mentioned that it's not warm enough for them so I guess it's personal preference.

I actually like the look of the Malene Birger tweed dress more than the lace dress, but I guess it's too much of a statement to wear at a wedding! I really like all your outfits in this post, and I don't know how you manage to look so chic + comfy at the same time when you fly! I hope you had a great time in LA!

Lace is always classic. That dress is super cute! Did Wendy have that dress altered to be the right length? I would imagine that it dress would be super short on anyone taller than 5-5'2". Have you ever shopped at Aritzia before? Found this lace dress that looks so much like your DVF lace dress at 1/3 the price. I find their dresses run almost a bit on the shorter side even for myself so I would imagine it would be a good length for someone around your height 🙂

Thank you for your reply! I am also looking for a thicker coat since I am on the East Coast for the first time! I was stalking the Lady Day Thinsulate coat but I noticed it is more expensive ($378) than when you did your reviews.

Do you have any experience with the 2014 coats? And do you know when's a good sale time? I think I'll hold off until Cyber Monday.

Thanks again! I really appreciate your input.

Hi Stacey! The returns process is very easy for ASOS in my numerous experiences. I would recommend the 1P based on the measurements you've provided as this coat runs very small. I don't have it with me for a few days otherwise I would measure the waist and bust for ya!

Hi Jean! Thank you for the pop-up notification!! I love the ASOS coat.
I was thinking of ordering it in 00P for myself but I think I am a little bigger than you. (5', 100lbs, 32, 25, 34) so I was going to order both 00P and 1P to try. What do you think? Also, is the returns process easy for ASOS?
