Nordstrom Spring Womens Sale Picks

It’s time for the womens half-yearly sale at my favorite store! I get so many questions on where to buy those tough-to-find sz 4 shoes or extended petite sizing. Nordies has the biggest selection out of anywhere I’ve shopped at and you can’t beat their customer service (with free shipping & returns). I’ve shared a few of my “picks” below…you can tell I’m in a black & white state of mind. The color pairing is just easy chic – can be worn with basic black or nude shoes for work, then amped up with a bright pump for a cocktail party or wedding.

Top Row:
1. DKNY Abby Trench Raincoat – in chartruese or classic black, starts in XS petite or XS regular. This coat has all the makings of a classic trench design, comes in my favorite bright color, and is functional for wet weather. What’s not to love?
2. Maggy London floral print dress – starts in 2 petite or 2 regular +. This is such a classic and girly piece. The arrangement of the floral print really emphasizes the waistline in a flattering way. Reviews note this may run a bit small.
3. Ivanka Trump Indico pump – 4 colors, starts in sz 4.5. These have the classic pointy-toe cut with low, walkable heel but is kept fresh in several vibrant shades. The mint or fuchsia would pop against any basic ensemble of jeans or these black & white dresses.

Middle Row:
4. Caslon knit jacket – several colors, in petite and regular sizing. I have not tried this brand, but know that it’s one of the new labels that just started marking XXS petite this year. I love my knit blazers…they’re so comfortable and much easier to pack, wash, and care for. This one is 100% cotton and is hand-wash cold.
5. Halogen cutout back dress – in the lacy jacquard print shown or solid black, starts in 00P or regular. Now why would they not show a back image of an item with a cutout back? Nevertheless, I wanted to point out an affordable dress in smaller petite sizing. The back detailing could spice it up to be more interesting for special events. Quality sounds to be promising in 100% cotton, full lining, concealed side zipper, and on-seam pockets.
6. Halogen Marla suede bow pump – 3 colors, starts in a rare sz 4+. I’ve posted about these before as an alternative to my beloved Manolo bow pumps and am very tempted by the navy.

Bottom Row:
7. Halogen Sonia sandal – 2 colors, starts in sz 5.5+. Not a bad price for a chunky, stable-heeled leather sandal in versatile brown or black.
8. Marc New York colorblock sheath dress, starts in 0P+. Another brand that I have not tried, but noted that the description says the dress runs small and there is only one but a positive review.
9. Via Spiga Idalis pump – in versatile black or nude, starts in sz 5+. This is a classic pointy toe pump with modest heel height, very similar to an old Ann Taylor pair that I’ve been wearing to pieces. I’ve posted about these before as well at full price, and they’re now 40% off!

Please note I haven’t tried any of these items on myself so can’t speak to fit or quality. Would love to hear any of your favorites from this sale!

Hi there! So sorry I didn't see this comment til now. I did not get the Calson jacket but was recommending it as an alternative to the Old Navy knit jackets I have which are now sold out. I machine wash those and immediately lay them flat to reshape and dry…I would make sure to keep them out of a machine dryer to prevent any shrinking, and also lessen the ironing process.

Thank you Jean! I ended up buying the Caslon Cotton Knit Jacket (in Grey/White stripe) that you reviewed, and I am thrilled with it. I had been struggling to find a knit blazer that fits comfortably, and this is the best. It fits great, good quality, and is as comfortable as a sweatshirt. And you can't beat the price! I like it so much I am going to order another.

Hi Jean, the Caslon knit jacket, have you washed yours yet? Did it shrink? I guess you have to iron it every time after you wash it? Thank you for your recommendation. I love your style. Thank you!

Julie – very interesting! Thank you for sharing! That is a bit sneaky as I browsed the entire selection without noticing that fine print. However I do have to say, even the merchandise at my local KS outlet stores does not go down this low…usually still $200-300 for some of the same styles and I have not personally noticed a big difference in quality between the outlet bags and the regular ones. Thanks again though for pointing this out for us.

    Hi Jean,
I just wanted to make a general comment. It's so funny that I love your blog because I'm actually Asian and 5'8 1/2. So most of your advises do not apply to me but I just love your blog because you seem so sincere and genuine. I love that you have a career and keep this blog up. I think you live my ideal life. I also love how you can alter your own clothes. I am lucky that my mom is a designer so she fixes all of my clothes. Also, congrats on your recent engagement. I even love that you don't make your boyfriend a mystery but part of your blog entries. He seems just perfect for you. Another also, I love that you are price-conscious. I think we reader really identify w/ how you try to build a wardrobe rather than buy every trend out there. Finally, I think you are so so pretty!!!!!

No problem! I haven't had time to research the differences, and in the meantime am really on the fence about whether or not to pull the trigger on one of the crossbody bags.

@Jean, maybe this could be a helpful educational post if you haven't already covered it in the past?

Thank you for the note! wow I never noticed the little words as "Designed for Kate Spade New York Outlet Stores." and I just went there to double check, yes there are. Umm… if those are designed for outlets, I think it's probably not worth the rush and price. Either way, thanks for sharing, good to know!!!

Thanks for sharing, Jean! Just a note — most of the handbags on the link to Kate Spade's surprise sale webpage are "Designed for Kate Spade New York Outlet Stores." Those words are listed verbatim under the product details tab for each of the handbag items.

I'm not sure if it implies lower quality, minor style differences compared to non-outlet versions, or etc. However, I figured I'd call it out in case there are readers who care about this distinction, and who may otherwise miss this fine print.

Lastly, I'm a long-time reader and was so excited to see your post on the engagement. Congratulations! Cheers to what the future has in store for you and your fiance 🙂

Thanks a lot for your effort and the obviously good tips! My favourites for sure are the green pumps as green belongs to my favourite colours and I'm looking for pumps in this colour since a very long time. Now I must have immediately a closer look to these shoes 🙂
