Urban Outfitters Peplum Jacket Overload

I’m late to the party…the Kimchi Blue peplum jacket party, that is. You guys must be so sick of seeing this jacket on every petite blogger, but here is my un-enthusiastic contribution:

urban1
Jacket: Kimchi Blue Peplum Jacket in “Ivory” sz XS
Pants: Ann Taylor Twill Capris in “Cliffside” sz 00P

Let’s play a game…can you identify your favorite petite bloggers? Who wore it best? Not me, thats fo’ sure.

Cheat sheet:
1. Alterations Needed – hooray for racial diversity ; )

When I first pulled this jacket out of the bag I was dismayed by the poor worksmanship…Vicky said it best “whoever stitched this jacket must’ve been drunk…” The stitching on my jacket was way uneven, there were about 5 loose threads hanging, plus a button was dangling undone. For $30 though I guess I can’t ask for too much!

My favorite thing about this sweater-jacket is the peplum back. It’s very cute for casual wear, but I had trouble making it look professional. I like how PetiteLG styled it above, but I don’t have a gray sheath dress. After my last U.O. jacket purchase which I ended up wearing for just 2 hours (it’s gonna hit the blog sale soon), I think I learned my lesson and will pass on something that won’t get much wear, regardless of how cheap it was.

Hooray for the peplum jacket! Best little find ever, and it looks great on you! <3

(and hey, I'll never get sick of seeing it on other bloggers- gives me more ideas on how to work it, woohoo.)

Wow I love how this is a petite blogger favourite and you all look so great in this jacket! I also find it funny that most petite bloggers are Asian – surprise surprise haha. With my kind of luck they probably don't carry it at the UO here in Vancouver, or if they did, they're all sold out lol. I love how you kept most of your outfit simple with solids to bring attention to the print of your jacket. Yeah I find the construction and craftsmanship of UO products to be hit and miss. The back part of the peplum is def my favourite part as well! Regardless of how it was made and how many others have this jacket, you still look chic and wear it well with your own sense of style 🙂

Hi Jean, thank you so much for pulling everyone's pictures together. It's so adorable to see that many petite friends wearing the same jacket. Too bad you can't wear this to work, otherwise it looks very cute on you. It is casual, that's for sure. I can see myself wearing it A LOT. More people complimented on this jacket than they did on the ruffle sweater. 🙂 And I do enjoy wearing it.

Ok, the jacket was about the quality I was expecting (which is not high considering the previous reviews) but on mine the button was actually sewing the blazer shut. >.< I did a little delicate snipping with some scissors and it was fine but really, Urban Outfitters? At least I got it on sale so it was only about $26 shipped. Thankfully my office is more casual than yours since I know I'll wear it a lot and I already got complimented while wearing it. 🙂 I agree with the others though, if you won't wear it you shouldn't buy it no matter how cheap it is.

I literally laughed out loud when you identified Alterations Needed with "Hooray for racial diversity".

I sometimes wonder if someone in my ancestry spent some time in Asia, because based on my mixed bag of European genetics I should either be really tall or built like livestock.

I agree with you that this blazer is meant for casual wear. However, I really like how PLG paired it with a dress. I like your color choice of the grey in the blazer and the soft khaki color together!

You all look fabulous in that jacket! If I hadn't been disappointed with some of my other recent purchases from UO, I'd be all over that piece! Hm, well maybe I need to take a look-see in-store …

I haven't seen this jacket in person but it photographs so well…I guess the flaw is in the details. If you won't get much wear out of it I would encourage that you return it…but at $30, even if you only wear it once or twice and then put it in your blog sale would you be able to justify the purchase?

I think the blazer's fabric and style looks great on several different body types but the construction could be better. Since I just re-sewed the buttons, it's not so bad and I prefer wearing it casually.

It's great to see how other petites style the same blazer and it looks different in each iteration! =)

Completely agree with you on the need to stop buying things that I won't wear more than once!

Thanks for the heads up on the AT sale! I've been waiting to buy some of those perfect pumps that you love so much. I have a quick question though since we have similar sized feet. Do you wear them in a size 5 because they run large? I'm debating if I should order them in 5.5 since that's my normal size. Also, I'm so bummed that the twill pants are sold out in my size. They look so good on you!

With the pearls, I think you managed to make it look pretty darn professional (at least from afar). Maybe it would suffice for casual Fridays? So nice to how differently everyone wore it. #5 and #6 have truly made it their own style.

I like the "identify a petite blogger" game! I think it looks cute on you, but like you said, if you're not going to get use out of it then it's not worth the $30.

I am so sad that I missed out on getting this jacket. I really wanted the "white" one. No more available in XS. 🙁 I am kicking myself for not getting it when it was available. Argh!!!

I think everyone wore it beautifully, but I am especially drawn to "From Head to Toe's" choice of layering. Such a pretty top. And I love how Pint-sized musing made it casual. Such a beautiful necklace and cute boots!

Your pumps are gorgeous. I love the ruching on the heels!

Hehe that was a cute tweet to this post! That's so awesome to see this little compilation..

Reminds me that I had this thought the other day ~ wouldn't it be awesome if a retailer used the petite blogging community as models on an ongoing basis?!? Like AT or BR? Silly I know, but would be cool 😀

Thanks ladies for the comments…and you guys make me feel better that it is just okay and not amazing…I hope for no regrets after returning!

AN – I agree, if I could dress casually more this would be a keeper. I love how Stylepint styled it with her brown belt and boots.

Sunshine – hi there! Ah, trust me I know how you feel..it's called "enabling" and the more good petite bloggers there are the more susceptible I am to overshopping as well. Don't worry though…I feel like reading these blogs (and blogging) has also made me 10x more nitpicky about styling, quality, and fit than before…so it's a tradeoff!

    Hi Jean,

I have been stalking yours and other petite ladies' blogs for months! I found you gals after much frustrations about not finding a pair of dress pants that fit me so I googled something like "alterations, petites etc…" and it brought me to you. I must blame you for bringing back my shopping addiction because you recommend so many cute purchases! (jk about the blaming part hehe). Thank you and I look forward to more reviews from you.

I've already worn it a few times and really like it, but my wardrobe is more casual than yours, so it must be harder for you to work it in. I still think it looks adorable on you though. I do wish it was made better as well, but I'll forego master craftsmanship for fit and cute detailing.

I agree, really too bad about the poor worksmanship. I'm not too fond of it but I guess it's "OK." Something to wear maybe 3 times and then it's either forgotten, donated, or sold.

But I do like your pants!

The photos of all us petites wearing the same jacket look awesome! UO should be paying us for advertising this jacket. I agree with you though. I am having the second thought on this jacket. I need a size up and I know it'll shrink after washed. I am forcing myself for not keeping items that I know I won't get much wear. It does look pretty good on you and I like how you styled it too
