For those of you who have an H&M; nearby, I can’t recommend this sweatshirt-peacoat enough. It’s affordable, well-constructed, warm, and runs small…what more can I ask for? It also comes in three colors, so if tomato red isn’t for you, try hunting down one in black, or my favorite – heather gray.
Fit: A womens sz 2 fits just like a 00P, and I throw in the “P” because the sleeves are the right length for my short arms. Although “puffed,” the shoulder detail does not overwhelm a small frame. A size 2 is snug on me when buttoned up.
For reference, I know a lot of petite bloggers modeled the Urban Outfitters peplum jacket in sz XS. Here’s how the two jackets compare when buttoned up. The H&M; one is much thicker and structured:
Quality: For the price, the quality exceeds my expectations. Outer is a comfy sweatshirt-like material made of 65% cotton and 35% polyester, and the jacket is fully lined in a boldly striped material. There are flap details at each sleeve cuff and nice contoured seams along the back.
The buttons are sewn on firmly and shockingly do not look cheap. My biggest qualm with places like H&M; are their cheap-looking buttons, but I was quite thrown off by these nice pewter-colored buttons.
Verdict: This jacket is a keeper for me, but I can’t decide whether to keep the bright tomato red or continue searching for the safe heather gray!
In these photos, I’m testing out my Revlon falsies in #99503 “Flirty” gifted by Diane : ) Thanks so much, Diane! These have adhesive strips instead glue, which were very easy to apply. The lashes were so soft and fluttery, but the adhesive strip lost sticky power the second time around. I wonder if I can apply regular lash glue to these too?

This jacket looks so great on you! I personally have a rough time dealing with pea coat styles though, 'cause they look so awkward when unbuttoned or partially buttoned.
Red is a great color, jazz up dark and dull winter days. Would look good with a belt too.

I really wanted to buy the same coat at H&M; this weekend but they only had size 6 available. I love the fit and color on you and encourage you to keep it! I am actually eying J. Crew's Stadium Cloth Peacoat in "baked squash." But I'd prefer a red blazer/sweater rather than a full on coat. I'm glad to hear that it's going to be re-stocked. Keeping my fingers crossed that I can snag a size 2 in red!
Those H&M; jeans and ankle boots are too die for as well!

I've always loved H&M; for their 'honest' sizing. I picked up a cropped, hooded trench this past weekend in a size 6 which fit me absolutely perfectly…the sleeves, the shoulders, the waist, everywhere.
Your peacoat really suits you, especially in that color. Keep it! Don't you think it's nice to be able to buy a 2 at H&M; rather than fuss with 0, 00, and 000 elsewhere? I once bought a skirt from J.Crew and it was 0…I remember wondering what truly small women were going to wear; my waist is 26"!

Completely taken by your whole outfit. You know what my vote would be. Keep the red! I went to H&M; to hunt down this jacket on Monday but no luck. The smallest size they have was 4, which looked to wide for me. The kids'jeans in 11/12 were too tight for me. Hehe, surprise! But when I went up a size it was too long. Also I'm not impressed about the stitching. I know I'm asking too much for a $16 pair of jeans, but I'm a stitching fanatic, just like you are a fit fanatic.

The jacket looks amazing on you. I will say, red is an amazing color on girls with light skin and dark hair (that's me too!), so most of my favorite jackets are that color. Beware, I often get honked at/whistled at when wearing red. Seriously…it's only when I'm wearing red. And…you look gorgeous, so watch out!

I knew this was going to be a good peacoat! I tried on the heather gray when it came out a few weeks back.
Immediately I noticed how it fit better than other H&M; items because of the shorter length, but I set it down because it was fleece. I was looking for a wool pea coat at the time.
My mom (who rarely comments on my "boring" clothes) even told me it fit well! Darn…
I do remember the chest being snug. That's the problem I have with most outerwear.

I have a red peacoat from GAP that I bought last Winter. This is WAY more affordable!! ..Sort of wish I waited (I rarely wear it.)
Also, you said it's "sweatshirt" material. How does it feel? I'm so weary of any outer wear from Forever 21, H&M;, etc. because you so often get really icky feeling material.. come on, WHO wants to wear felt?!
I've been on a hunt for red peacoat and almost gave up! I saw one from Wet Seal a couple years ago but that wasn't very good material and they didn't have the right size for me. I saw one from Forever21 last year but the quality sucked. H&M; never fails me with prices and quality; love that store! I have a bigger bust now (I'm 5'2") so I don't know if the puff shoulder would look good on me. Maybe I'll find it and find out for myself c[=

I am glad you got the chance to try the lashes out. I personally take the glue that came with it off and then add my own glue because it's so thick! By the way, today's my day off so I am gonna go hunt this down, take pics with it and blog about it! I can never find anything at F21 but I always find something of better quality at H&M.; I wish they had a Zara where I live.. I've been looking for a blazer like crazy! I think I bought the black version of the $30 nude one you had in the post "Outfit that never made it." I am not so sure it fits nicely like you said.. so I'm gonna go try the 2 again at the store since I bought the 4. I'm not sure how the arms should fit because I don't want my arms bulging out either. At times like these, having a person who is strict with fitting would be great!

Michelle- I dread crowded H&M;'s too. When I want something though I call persistently (I described this as a "sweatshirt-material jacket that looks like a peacoat, comes in black red and gray and they instantly knew what I meant) and have them just put it on hold. That way, no digging…in and out of the store in minutes : )

The red looks good, really good.I would keep the red because it's much harder to find a bold coloured jacket that looks good than a safe neutral colour so once you find one you should hang onto it!

The tomato red looks great against your skin tone. I think it's a great color for the fall…if I recall you already have a gray leather jacket that serves a similar purpose. I'd say keep the red.

OMG! I went to H&M; this weekend and saw this peacoat-looking sweater ~ tried on the black one and totally loved it~ but since it was a bigger than me (size 6), I got the gray one instead in size 2. I totally love this jacket~ so warm and definitely fits me very well. 🙂
Wow I know you said it runs small but didn't realize that it approaches the size of the knit UO blazer! Weather in SoCal usually doesn't necessitate thicker jackets but I might have to go look for this one at my H&M.; I think if you already have a lot of gray jackets, then the 'vibrant' tomato red would be a nice change… or get both! Lol… only $35 after all. With your booming blog sale business, I'm sure another petite will take it off your hands in seconds if you change your mind 😉

Dang! I wish I had an H & M near me. The only time I can shop there is when I travel. That is the first thing I look for when I have to go out of town. If they would only come to the South..:(
Love the red on you! Oddly enough, I actually prefer the quality of H&M; jackets over Zara. I love the look of Zara coats…from far away. Very classic and minimalist but when you get up close, the buttons are already falling off and the material they use is just awful. Although H&M; jackets aren't the best, I would almost always choose it over Zara.

I would keep this tomato red instead of hunting for the heather gray. I love this jacket especially the length of the sleeves. Fits you prefectly!
