Today is Veterans Day, and as with each holiday weekend, you can count on me for some good sales. But first, I wanted to express thanks to those who served or continue to serve to keep this country safe, and allow each of us our freedoms and the opportunity to fight for what we believe is right.
I haven’t updated on here in a while as it’s hard not to be affected by this week’s events, regardless of what your political positions are. Despite the rifts this election has caused, I truly have hope for unity and the future if we each work for it. And one thing I think everyone can agree on is that we are thankful for our veterans.
Today’s post touches on two popular requests that I’ve been receiving already for holiday (yes, the best time of the year is here, and I’m not complaining!): 1. holiday outfits that are office-appropriate, and 2. outfits involving tights for our rapidly-dropping temps. I’m partnering with Ann Taylor to share a look that is festive yet professional, and works well both with or without hosiery. Navy tights and similar-colored shoes together are the foundation of many of my cold-weather outfits. Compared to basic black, I feel navy tights pair more easily with softer hues and vibrant color palettes, without looking too stark!
I’m putting together a list of my favorite sales this weekend (so please check back!), but to start, Ann Taylor is having 40% off w/ code FRIENDS40 for their Friends & Family event, including new arrivals that just hit yesterday. I know many of you have been waiting for a belted wrap coat that is of good quality, warm, and petite-friendly – well, patience has paid off! The wool-blend material of this jacket is soft and cozy, and the wrap style will adjust to fit a little or a lot of layering underneath (or to conceal indulgent holiday meals : ) Petite sizing is an online exclusive, and I have a feeling it’ll go quickly.
The embellished collar on my blouse and metallic & sequin flecks throughout this skirt are small ways to add holiday touches to a look, without going over the top or baring much skin. I love putting together separates that end up looking almost like a dress! Please note that as with most Ann Taylor bottoms, I took this skirt in about 2 inches for it to fit higher up on my waist. I continuously give AT feedback to please consider making skirts that fit a little narrower across the waist, as I’m sure I’m not alone in this request!
Trying out the silk scarf wrapped around the handles, to give one of my favorite older bags a new look! And here’s how the jacket looks when open:
I got to try on a few more new arrivals and wanted to share my recommendations, while sizes are all in stock! The fit on each of these are true to size with no alterations needed:
– This boucle draped jacket is in a tightly knit material (so not as prone to snags compared to looser knits) and is medium in weight. The drape just falls in a way that looks right without you having to fuss around with it, and there are functional pockets to boot. It’s a beautiful alternative to a regular blazer for both work and weekend wear.
– This quilted houndstooth peplum top is in a stretchy material (unlined) that fits comfortably and flatters the figure. It’s not too quilted so you won’t overheat, but has a nice bit of texture to it. Pair with ankle pants for work or skinny jeans for casual wear! Layer a sleeveless collared blouse underneath for a different look.
– Restock alert on my exact Charlie patent bow pumps (not the later variation with a gap below the bow)! Unfortunately it looks like 5 and 5.5 sold quickly again, but I’d check for pop-backs just in case. These heels go with SO much – I wear them to death and still get compliments and questions on them every time. The patent leather felt a little stiff to me in the beginning but became comfortable after a few wears.
Thank you Ann Taylor for partnering on this post.
