With December quickly approaching, I've been giddily compiling holiday outfits (in my head). This week, Banana Republic asked me to style a party look to help promote their NYE contest. I even got to invite a friend! I chose a fab local blogger, Khatu, however our plans for a fun photoshoot together were foiled at the last minute. Nevertheless, here we are each bringing our own spin to this glitzy paillette shift dress.
Khatu is wearing: Paillette dress c/o BR, Nine west clutch, YSL pumps, vintage earrings & belt

For a simple holiday look without breaking the bank, look for little black dresses in fun materials, like sequins (or, if you're crafty...buy sparkly fabric and sew a simple sheath). A longer-length boyfriend blazer would look perfect with a festive mini, but you can also make do with a basic suiting blazer like I did. Accent your look with crystal jewelry or a statement color. If you're trying to ease into the color red, start with classic burgundy and a rich but wearable lipcolor, like my favorite Rimmel Bordeaux.
To join in on the holiday fun, enter Banana Republic's contest to win the ultimate New Year's Eve party for yourself and five friends, including an all-expense paid trip to NYC, party tickets, plus a shopping spree. Two 2nd prize winners will also be randomly selected to win shopping sprees. To enter, just snap a photo of your favorite party outfit and share it per these instructions on Banana Republic's Facebook page. Entries will be accepted until Wednesday, November 23rd. Good luck!
Disclosure: We each received 1 dress c/o BR, and are not affiliated with the company in any other way.

LOVE the dress! I've been crushing on sequins for the Holidays. Such a great look. I can't believe that dress is from BR ~jen
ReplyDeleteJean, WOW! You two look fabulous! I love Khatu's makeup and I am dying over your Louboutins!!! I've been planning some holiday outfits myself, I am kind of wishing I had more parties to go to!
ReplyDeleteOh! One more thing - I love that the paillettes go all the way around the front and back. I think that nothing cheapens the look of an item like having just the front covered.
ReplyDeleteLove it, wish I had some where to wear it!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! You can pull off anything.
ReplyDeleteYou both look fabulous! While your look is sophisticated and elegant, Khatu’s is fun and chic. I am so loving your new pumps. They’re so gorgeous. You and Khatu did such a great job styling this dress. Now all you need is a girl’s night out, right =)?
ReplyDeleteThis is a great look, the blazer completes the look.

This whole outfit is fabulous! I'm loving the fierce Elisa pumps with the sparkly LBD.
ReplyDeleteLOVE the red pumps ;) you're on fire girl!! Love the outfits on both you and Khatu. I'm loving the sequin-y stuff this season, but alas, no place to wear such beautiful outfits for me, so will have to just see you beautiful gals wear it and leave it on the rack :)
ReplyDeleteThe dress is so festive. But I have no parties to go to.
ReplyDeleteWow, you look simply stunning! That dress is so beautiful, and those shoes...smashing!

Oooo, that dress is FAB! Especially with the red heels. LOVE!
ReplyDeleteI like those red pumps and Khatu's lipstick a lot.
ReplyDeleteJean I was wondering if you could do a post on how to pair skirts with tights for the winter season. I assume winter in Boston should be no less harsh than here in the midwest and I find myself struggling to come up with something I really like in terms of pairing wool skirts and tights for work.
Both you and Khatu look so beautiful. Love Khatu's belt.
ReplyDeleteyour dress is so pretty! looks stunning :)

ReplyDeleteThat is gorgeous and love the red pumps! Both you girls look amazing in this dress and love how you both have made it look different by giving it your personal touch!
ReplyDeleteYou two both look great! I love both the takes on the dress. I'd like to try a lipstick similar to Khatu's--it's so pretty for fall.
ReplyDeleteI love this sparkly dress on both of you!
ReplyDeleteRats, the contest is only for Northerners :(
ReplyDeleteI love both your outfits though! And especially the red shoes.
*___* Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThe belt really changes up the look. Love the jet blacks in multiple textures and the asymmetry the large sequins create in different light!
ReplyDeleteI love how Khatu kicked it up a notch and added that rhinestone belt. Daring!! and that lip shade on you, Khatu, phenomenal!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHoliday glam x 2!
ReplyDeleteI love how you style the dress. If you didn't mention that it was from BR, I would've thought that it was extremely expensive.
ReplyDeleteJean, you and Khatu look so ultra fab in these dresses!!! I definitely love the shorter hemline. My hubby is actually making me a pailette skirt right now. I can't wait to wear it.
ReplyDeleteHope you're been well and enjoying your week so far. :)

ReplyDeletegood luck to you ladies!!
you two look fabulous & i like the different looks. ;) i love your shoes, nice pop of color. :D
ReplyDeletelove your shoes! =)
ReplyDelete@Alexandra That is a common request so I will do my best! It's tough, because subzero temps and precipitation does not allow creative fashion to thrive...I usually fall into a lull of black black and more black.
ReplyDelete@Lisa @Ping @Anonymous Thank you! They were a lucky sale purchase last month from the Outnet.com (Net a porter's outlet site). There was a Louboutin flash sale for about 50% off, and my kind blog friend Fast Food and Fast Fashion was so kind to let me know so I could snag them.
@Christine I love budget babe! Thank you for your note : )
@Anonymous I fold it under and either safety pin or use regular pins to put the hem into place. From there, I try it on and usually adjust it several times until the length looks right with shoes on. Then I just took thread (doubled up) and needle and made small stitches and knots every few inches.
@Vicky Now now, Vicky...lol. I actually don't covet anything Chanel anymore...my black classic flap really satisfied my cravings, for this year at least : )
@Anonymous Aw man, eBayers keep taking blog photos! At least they had the courtesy of keeping the watermark in this time : )
@Jade Thanks! Got my coupon yesterday but avoided going : ) Did you shop the sale today?
THANK YOU Jean for explaining how you raised the hem! - you have no idea how much I appreciate it! I have a sequin BR dress from a few years back that is too long, but no tailor has been willing to shorten it. Thanks again, and many thanks also for keeping up such a great blog!
ReplyDeleteI'm loving the look with red heels!
ReplyDeleteSeriously, I can't believe I missed this post :( You look AMAZING! I totally agree with you I think us petite ladies can get away with showing more leg and not looking "scandalous" :P
