1. Farm Rio
30% off nearly sitewide with code SUMMER30. This is a rare and substantial discount for one of my favorite brands! It says promo ends Friday 7/5 night, but I’m hoping it’ll be extended. Their rompers are pretty petite friendly, and I’ve had luck with several of their shorter or midi style dresses. A few picks:
- Green floral dress – see below on me, and a video of the fit. Smocked back, tummy-forgiving higher waistline, and pockets! Love how petite-friendly and comfortable this one is, and have reached for it often. I bought this at full price so this is a pretty good amount of savings!
- White lace midi dress – gorgeous, intricate details and 100% cotton. I only found a size Small in stores to try on which was understandably big, but was really nice quality (see on me).
- Green & white romper – see on me in XS. Very cute, though straps were a tad loose
On Nick: J. Crew knit shirt M, Uniqlo pants Kids: Boden dress, YOYO stroller (Nsale deal!)
2. Boden
Big sale for women, girls & boys! Their petite sizing is a little too big for me but I ADORE their girls pieces and find them to be worth it, especially during sales like this.
Nori’s criss-cross back dress above is one of her favorite dresses ever, and also on sale in several different prints (she’s been asking for the blue seashell one!). I usually go a size up to grow into.
3. J.Crew
Many items on sale, plus extra 60% off certain sale items. J.Crew has been impressing me this year with well-fitting, elevated pieces in nice quality fabrics.
- Nick would like to sing the highest praises for this knit textured shirt (pictured above), which he wears about twice a week. It has all the comfort of a tee shirt but a little more interesting and elevated. It also washes pretty well (he air dries his knits). He’s usually between a S and M and went up to the M. The cost per wear for “Natural” was well worth it at full price, and now that it’s gone on sale for the first time he also grabbed the Navy!
- This cotton gauze maxi might be my favorite dress by J.Crew this year. I’ve tried on a few lovely ones, but this one wins in terms of all day comfort and practicality. The cotton gauze fabric is flowy, soft and lightweight, and the stretchy torso and adjustable straps just makes this more forgiving and comfy. Black is on sale and would be a great choice for those who don’t want to worry about visible stains! See the white below in xxs petite and a fit video on me.
- My staple sweater lady jacket is on sale in several colors and knit fabrics. Total Chanel vibes in this more elevated, textured knit version.
4. Abercrombie
25% off tees, everything else on sale + code AFJEAN for an additional 15% off. You can see all of my recent try-ons and video reviews here. A few picks:
- Mara vest dress in a V neck or Square neck (better stocked). I’ve had mine for a while now and love it as a polished dinner, girls outing or date night option that I can wear with flats. The newer light blue color is so pretty! My usual size xxs petite is petite friendly and a mini length, so consider regular sizing instead if you’d like a little more length.
- Nick’s Picks
- All Day Shorts: “Looks like a chino short but has a lot of stretch to it, hidden side zipper pocket; comfortable enough to wear on a 6 hour flight to CA! Size up if you have more “athletic” thighs/hips.”
- Vintage tee shirt: Great modern basic tee. “This has a relaxed fit with a little more structure to it, thick soft material, and is true to size.” Nick is usually between S and M and took a Small in this.
- YPB skort with pockets that I’ve been wearing on repeat in black. A staple piece when you want something cute but practical for moving around. I go up to XS since I don’t like my leggings or skorts too fitted.
- Sunday half zip with pockets is petite-friendly in length, with just the right amount of slouch and so comfy. I’ve owned mine for a while and recently got the blue too. Served as a cozy layer in the chillier evenings for our CA visit!
5. Levi’s
30% off $125. One additional sale that I’m not shopping myself this time because I’m very happy with my current Levi’s collection – the list below can pretty much cover most of my casual outfit needs! See my Levi’s guide here.
- Wedgie Straight – straight ankle jean with a high rise. I have light blue (Fully baked), medium blue (Space to Think), and white.
- Ribcage Straight – looser straight full length jean with a super high rise. My most worn wash in these is the In the Middle light wash.
- 90s trucker jacket. Even though this lost in the reader vote compared to a classic, tailored denim jacket, I stand by this choice! This has been a summer + travel staple thanks to the relaxed feel and soft denim Tencel blend.
Hi Jean!
The madewell sandals do not seem to be available in black. Seems that many of the items I click on wish to purchase are no longer available, bummer!
Thanks for sharing these weekend sales! The Farm Rio dresses sound perfect for petites. The Boden and J.Crew deals are tempting too—great picks for summer wardrobes.
As a 70-year old 5’3″ I have been struggling to find age-appropriate yet not frumpy clothes. It has been particularly hard to find a dress for an upcoming black tie wedding. Any thoughts or sites you recommend are welcome
One of Jean’s older posts has a lovely wedding guest dress that’s full-length and age-appropriate:

Not sure if the exact same dress is still available, but something similar would work great!
Hi Aileen!
Thanks WMC for helping out! As she mentioned I am not sure that dress is available anymore, but Eliza J in general is a great place to start and is sold at Nordstrom, Macy’s, or Dillards I believe. Nordstrom is usually my go-to for formal dresses and you can filter online by sleeve length / type, dress length (I would choose Midi length, since that will end up being full length on petites) budget etc. Dress the Population and Adrianna Papelle are two other brands with non-frumpy formal dresses. Good luck!
