I’ve purchased many Quince pieces over the years (from bedding to $50 cashmere basics), and wanted to do an update with some warm weather pieces! The general consensus from my summer try-ons is that while I’m impressed by the fabrics and styles for the price points, I’d love if they started introducing xxs / 00. Their pieces start in XS and many are just a little too big, though a few are do-able for smaller-framed petites.
The below includes some gifted items that I chose from Quince, with no obligation to share on the blog:
1. Black Cotton Poplin Midi Dress
This dress has been one of my most reached-for summer items! It delivers in terms of comfort & practicality, while feeling feminine and non-boring. The 100% cotton poplin fabric holds its shape and stays cool and crisp in the heat. The smocked waist has stretch, and the neckline and straps are all adjustable. There are pockets for easy phone access, and the slight midi length has been ideal for me lately. I go bra-less in this dress, but adhesive nippies would be a safe choice.
Fit: the XS top is slightly loose on me around the top bust, though I’ve tightened it a bit using the adjustable neckline and straps. I’ve worn this with my black Adidas sneakers, flat strappy sandals, and also a minimal heel for varying levels of dressiness. Aritzia has a similar version of this dress with wider straps starting in xxs, and Nordstrom has similar in white under $60 (but no adjustable straps).
2. Tencel Jersey Fit & Flare dress (Long vs. Short)
Quince has an entire Tencel jersey collection, and while the designs are simpler than what I personally gravitate towards, this fabric is lounge-worthy. It’s incredibly smooth, soft and comfy against the skin. This dress has a swingy fit & flare silhouette, pockets, and the neckline and straps work with a regular bra. See my try on video.
Fit: The XS actually fit me pretty well throughout, but note that strap length may get longer for larger sizes. This dress comes in a “mini” (shown on me below) or original longer length – the mini hits at my knees, and the regular hits a few inches above my ankles. With flats, my ideal length feels in-between these two options. With a slight heel, I prefer the longer but that’s just because I’ve been gravitating more towards midi lengths.
3. White Linen Dress
I love so many things about this easy linen dress! Style-wise, it might actually be one of my favorite Quince pieces, but the sizing is sadly too big for smaller-framed petites. The XS fits me roomy in the chest / torso and wide at the straps, even after I washed and dried it on high hoping for shrinkage. Such a shame since the cut is feminine and classic with adjustable straps and pockets, and it’s very comfortable to wear and not see through. I might take this one in along both sides.
4. Crepe Shorts
I’ve tried on my share of tailored shorts in my search, and these crepe shorts are a sleeper hit! Unfortunately sizing only starts in 0, so these are roomy at my waist (I’m typically 00 / 24) but I wear them with a belt and do feel they fit TTS for a 0. The mid length, classic cut, and crepe fabric however are all excellent. I’ll try to take a photo soon but wanted to share while sizes are stocked.
For those with a smaller waist, the Aritzia tailored shorts feel very nice and come in smaller sizing (00, 0). Their “mini” length is a little shorter than the Quince.
Gap has a pair called 365 Shorts which I’m assuming are the same nice and drapey material as their 365 Pants (see on me). I’m interested in trying those but would expect them to fit big, as is typical with Gap.
5. Two Piece Linen Shirt + Shorts Set
Coordinating sets are the best for effortless summer dressing, and I was impressed by the petite-friendly fit on these. The length of both the shirt and shorts are good for my frame and the shirt has a naturally boxier cut. Do they look a bit like PJs? Maybe. But I’m loving the ease of the set. They can be worn separately with solid colored or denim basics, and also with the shirt open as a swim cover up.
Let me know if you have any Quince favorites that I need to check out next!
Hi Jean. Thanks for the post. Have you tried on the Quince Italian Leather Platform Sandal? If yes, I’d love to hear your feedback on it. Or any of the other Quince shoes that you think are worth the buy. Thank you!
Hi Jean, do you think the tencel fit and flare dress is suitable for maternity wear? Is it stretchy enough?
Ty!
Hi Alyssa! Unfortunately I am not sure if it’d work for maternity wear because it has a fairly defined waistline that would probably hit at the middle of the bump
Hi Jean! Thanks for your detailed description and links! And for introducing me to Quince! I’ve never heard of that brand! They have a great sale right now!
Hi Irene, I’m so glad you liked it!
Do you have favorite bra recommendations? I feel like jersey material is tricky, but yours seems to fit well and looks so seamless. Thank you!
I’m wearing my Gap wireless bra! Really lightweight and fairly seamless.
Hi! What do you wear under the satin skirt for a seamless look? Any recommendations? Thank you!!:)
Hi! I use the Uniqlo shaper shorts and love them – just linked them under the skirt photo in the blog!
Which color did you purchase for the Uniqlo support body shaper and does it show underneath the Quince skirt? I’ve read some of the reviews on the Quince website that say the skirt is thin and transparent, so I am kinda worried… It looks so nice though. I want to love it!
I recently purchased the Organic cotton gauze smocked maxi dress in white–it is a perfect fit–I am 5 ft tall and 93 lbs. I also purchased the Organic eyelet smocked maxi dress in navy. It is a beautiful fabric and a fuller style in the skirt. It does work for petites as well. On the other hand the organic cotton gauze swing dress is huge! I have found that the unstructured pieces do not work well for petites. I wish they would make xxs sizing!
Hi Amy, thanks so much for these recommendations! I hadn’t come across those 2 styles before and see that many sizes are sold out in each. Fingers crossed they’ll be restocking! The cotton gauze seems so comfortable for summer and I like that it has pockets.
Hi Jean! Do you use any Gentle Monster sunglasses? I would love to see your reviews of them!
Hi! No sorry I haven’t tried them, nor come across the brand in stores.
Hi Jean!!
Wait wait wait wait…hold the phone…..is that a NEW EP belt I see??? It looks fabulous! When are we going to get the details? I have been wondering about the next item for EP. Are there any more upcoming surprises??
I love the black cotton dress and the tencel fabrics look so smooth and comfy, but yes, maybe too loungy??
I love the trips you’ve been posting and the fun, vibrant colors of your summer dresses. Hope the family is good and looking forward to more posts!
Have a great summer! xx
Hi April! Always SUCH a treat to hear from you. I hope you’ve been well! Thanks so much for your kind note and I always love hearing your feedback. You have a sharp eye, haha! Sadly we had several setbacks on EP products we had lined up over the past year, but this new belt is in the works as something a little more sculptural to add to the mix with our favorite horsebit. Thanks as always for your support and I hope your summer is off to a wonderful start!
Thank you for covering Quince. I have eyed their stuff but am always hesitant because there’s nothing about pockets in the description or in the pics!
I’m glad to be of help! Not all of their dresses have pockets so I’m usually going through customer reviews for that info! 🙂
Love your information. I am always looking for fashionable age appropriate attire for my college daughter. Our biggest issue is shoes. She wears a 1.5 – 2 in little girls. (She’s 4’11”). Any ideas where we could find modern and classic styles?
Hi Karyl! Check Sam Edelman kids since they tend to have styles like sandals and loafers that look just like the adult versions!
