Inspired by my 5-year old’s love for everything colorful and bold, I’ve been having fun breaking out of my neutrals shell! The kids have also been very into matching or coordinating (either with me or with each other) which I’m happily embracing, since I have a feeling that will be fleeting.
The above 2-piece knit set was an Amazon find that comes in a wide array of colors! The solid black or black/white combo would be a safe choice, but I’ve always loved the idea of punchy orange and pink for summer. It’s very comfortable with stretch and adjustable straps, and I like that the top isn’t too cropped so just showed a little skin. The XS felt TTS – since I usually wear xxs, this was a little loose on me around the waistband and bust.

I found this J.Crew dress to be so flattering with princess vibes, but reading through the reviews, I see it doesn’t work for everyone. It features mixed fabrics with a comfy jersey knit top, and a full, crisp cotton poplin circle skirt and pockets. There is a built-in shelf bra that I still wear with my trusty Bristol 6 adhesive nippies since the light color is semi sheer. The “natural” color is also more of a pale beige and not cream. It’s a maxi length on me but would get a lot more wear in my lifestyle as a midi, so I’ve been debating hemming it!
Another dress in a similar “mixed fabric” jersey + cotton skirt style is this popular Everlane dress that is on sale right now! Starts in XXS and has pockets as well. Make sure to grab one of these undies to try if you’re checking out at Everlane. I love the higher rise and light compression!

On Nori: Boden dress, waterproof sandals
One of my favorite Farm Rio dresses again with a very petite-friendly fit! I’ve enjoyed wearing this one all spring / summer, and Nori’s cross-back dress (in tons of prints) might be one of the cutest mini Boden pieces yet.

This little boys blue striped cotton set is great quality, soft and breathable. I’ve been buying it in a size up ever year or two as Rio’s summer staple! Casual and comfy enough to play in, and can look a little “dressed up” when worn with his waterproof loafers.

On Rio: matching boys trunks (sized up), kids zip-up rashguard
I was influenced by an ad to order from this higher end swimsuit brand, especially after seeing a cute mom & me matching option. An XS fit me well, but one thing to note is some of their fabrics like this one are quite delicate. My favorite piece that I tried on is actually this Ky Rib one-piece that’s sexy and flattering, while also providing tummy coverage where I want it (and customer service mentioned that the regular rib is a more durable fabric).

How talented is my friend who handmade all of our swimsuits? She makes petite and maternity sizing, too, in a variety of different prints to coordinate with your little ones! Nori is spoiled by her auntie who’s sewed her several favorite sets each year with headbands to match.
It’s so awesome to see your updates and style advice and travel guides even though you have little kids. You’re doing such a great job!
I love the summer dresses and skirts that you’ve been sharing this season. Thanks for the inspiration.
Hi Jean – do you have any recommendations for a small travel bag/diaper bag that fits in the Yoyo stroller? I’ve been looking at Calpak but was curious what you recommend for a small bag for kids stuff. Thanks!
I’m sorry, I don’t have a rec since we usually carry a backpack when using the Yoyo!
Hey, Jean, you had questions about Disneyland on Instagram. I live 2 miles south of the park. Disneyland sits at Harbor Blvd and Katella Ave.
There’s a brand new hotel across from the park on Katella, as in opened less than a year ago.
The Garden Walk on Katella is a shopping center right outside the park. Lots of restaurants. I think the Cheesecake Factory is the most popular.
Also on Katella, if you like Italian, is Marri’s Pizza. I know the family owners and they serve a lot of great dishes beyond pizza, and it’s kids friendly.
Harbor Blvd for the resort area has every kind of food in a variety of price ranges, from Mc Donald’s on up.
If you like Pho, there’s a good place on Harbor south of the park, before getting to Chapman Ave.
Chapman is the south border of the Resort District, so there’s also an Outback, Joe’s Crab Shack, and a Red Robin at that corner.
There’s also a Great Wolf Lodge waterpark nearby, farther south on Harbor.
Hope that helps!
Hey Carla, thanks for the detailed info / guide around the Disneyland area! I appreciate it xx
