I wore this outfit recently for girls night and will be repeating it from head to toe for an upcoming birthday dinner! When going out in the city these days I’m often at a loss of what to wear, so it’s been key to have one or two go-to ensembles that I feel amazing in. I usually default to black, and this look felt on-trend and edgy but also elegant and age appropriate – loved it! You can also see this outfit in motion in my IG reel video.
Alice & Olivia Blazer Romper
I got a similar version of this blazer romper earlier this year and it has been that “IT piece” when I need an outfit that makes me feel incredible. This black one is cut very similarly and is beautifully tailored on a petite frame, with a slightly lower neckline. I have always found Alice & Olivia to run a little small with petite-friendly proportions – a size 0 in this fits me like a 00 in many other brands, and the only adjustment I made was folding the sleeves under. The romper bottom adds a little coverage and security when I sit or bend over a bit.
The cut of this blazer romper is tailored and slim fitting enough to wear by itself, but add a black belt like our Edited Pieces belt if you want to further cinch in the waist. Here I’m wearing the mini version of our signature belt!
Saint Laurent Solferino Bag
This little bag has been my most reached-for designer purse all year – see it styled casually here and here, and dressed up a bit here. I love the size and shape, and if you’re on the shorter side, the strap is long enough for me to wear crossbody which is a major bonus! For a first designer bag, I still stand by the classic Saint Laurent wallet on chain which is still one of my most loved styles for many years now.
Schutz Maryana Boots
Maryana (also at Nordstrom) vs. Maryana Sculpt (also at Nordstrom): Schutz makes some unexpected petite-friendly boots! Being very short at 5 feet tall, I usually try on knee-high boots expecting them to fit poorly, but this was so surprisingly flattering and sexy on.
I’ve been eyeing the original Maryana embossed leather boot since last Fall, but the look felt a touch western for me. I was happy to see an updated Maryana Sculpt come out which is more in line with my style! The original is made of embossed leather, and the Sculpt is made of suede or leather with a subtly “sculpted” heel shape.
I did try both and debated between the styles, because embossed leather in general is lower maintenance, easy to wipe clean, and the embossing should camouflage scratches. The Sculpt won out for me as it’s more versatile for my wardrobe, and the material felt a little more high end and looked more elevated than the embossed leather.
FIT: FYI these boots are pull on style and do not have a zipper. I’m between a 5 and 5.5 in most brands, and took a 5.5 in these as there is no zipper. With the smaller size, my foot got stuck in the ankle area the half a size up solved the issue. I have fairly narrow calves and also found these to be a close fit in that area with minimal stretch.
Post-pandemic I also thought I would never reach for heels this high again, but I have found this heel height to be more comfortable in a boot than in pumps for prolonged wear since my foot is securely nestled inside the boot!
Below is how the blazer piece looks with a flat shoe. Wanted to show this for a cocktail attire event for those who cannot or prefer not to wear heels.
Hi Jean! Thoughts on wearing this to a semi formal wedding? If so, would you do boots or heels? Thanks so much!
Hi Rebecca, I’m honestly unsure because semi formal can be interpreted differently and may require something a little dressier? If you talk to a few friends or family members attending the same wedding and they are not more dressed up, then I would do heels!
Hi Jean, love this look! What size is the EP belt?
Hi Kate, thank you! I wear the EP belt in an xxs, but the exact one shown in this outfit is a mini version I’ve been testing out and is still in the works
Hi Jean! When will the flat be available on the EP site please!
I have a baby shower to go to this weekend and was wondering whether the express ankle black pants with the butterscotch blazer and a midi heel sandals will be appropriate please!
We don’t have these in the works just yet, but I’m so glad to hear that you’re interested in them!
As for the baby shower outfit, what you’ve described sounds great, I think it depends on where the shower is and if you’ll be warm enough in a sandal!
Thanks Jean! Yes Im very interested. I love all my EP pieces. You such an inspiration.
I love the shoes and look forward to purchasing a pair when it is available.
The Edited Pieces mini belt: please offer with a silver or nickel tone buckle. I purchased the original EP belt, but the bright gold tone of the hardware makes me turn away when I am getting dressed. I love the look of the mini belt, but I will only purchase it (and I would buy multiples as gifts for my petite family) if there is an option for hardware that is not gold.
I never wear silver accessories and for sure would prefer the mini belt in gold! I would actually like the gold to be even shiner. My original buckle has an antique look and I like bright gold.
Honestly I second this, I love the look of the black/tan belt but no real use for the grey/white one, I’d love to just be able to but the additional buckle in silver tone
I completely agree with Nikki and would love to have an option to just buy the silver tone buckle to use with my original black/brown belt. I do love the mini belt and would purchase one when available, but again, having the option of purchasing an additional buckle rather than an entire belt would be ideal in my opinion (and for my wardrobe!).
Hi, love this look.
Can you tell me where you got your headboard and mirror. My daughter is looking for something like this for her room.
Thanks
Stacy
Hi Jean!
LOVE this on you! I love the classic black as we are both musicians-concert black is key-and go to tons of concerts and evening events. This would work so well for a jazz concert or club! Love it and yes, heels all the way! I will wear heels until I’m 90 haha….
Thank you April, this would definitely work for those settings! I love the commitment to the heels xx
Absolutely love this type of look! So chic!
Thank you xx
Can’t wait for this skinnier belt!! My EP belt has been hands down my most versatile item in my closet!! Any plans to restock the sweater and skirt set this winter?
Hi Lili. that makes me so happy to hear! Thank you so much for being a customer and supporting EP! Which color and size are you looking for in the sweater set? We don’t have plans for the latte color but may have a small restock of navy
I want both haha! Size XXS
Thank you for your interest! We don’t have them at this time but will keep an eye out at our warehouse
Fabulous looks on you!
Thank you, Margot!
Wow Jean, this look is FIRE on you!! I love the monochromatic lengthening look, and I immediately looked up the Schutz suede boots and similar styles at Saks. Might have to splurge… Additionally, I do really like the look of the mini version of the Edited Pieces belt; I currently have the black/cognac one but do sometimes find the thickness is somewhat too chunky on my short torso. I would love to see the mini version offered at EP. Thank you for the inspiration! Hoping that after my current pregnancy, I can try out more daring looks like this. 🙂 In the meantime, I’m just waiting for a day cool enough to wear my camel EP coat; tis the season!
Thank you so much for your kind note Danielle! Your feedback about the belt is super helpful, thank you so much for being an EP customer. Congratulations on your pregnancy, sending you all my best wishes xx
Hi Jean! What flats are you wearing here?
Hi Angela, these are a an Edited Pieces sample that we haven’t made yet!
Hi Jean, what blush/bronzer are you wearing? Love the makeup in all your recent posts!!
Thank you Kathy! I’ve been wearing this Bareminerals Gen Nude Blonzer in “Kiss of Rose”
Thank you sooo much!!
