I was working with J.Crew on an Instagram post, and really loved several of the pieces so wanted to blog more details about the fit and sizing! I got to try on several styles and have narrowed it down to a select few that I think will get lots of mileage from being mixed and matched.
Right now, J.Crew is also running a promo with up to 75% off sale items and 25% off select full-priced items with code GOFOURTH, including my basket bag, sweater and sandals here, swimwear, and this chic and feminine linen blouse I picked up. Regular xxs is very petite-friendly in this slightly cropped linen top (the shoulders stay put without sliding down) and is so cute paired with jeans and skirts with Reformation-esque vibes.
1. Seaside Linen Pant (4+ colors in petite, classic and tall sizes)
J.Crew petite pants are always a good length for me right off the rack, with intended cropped styles actually fitting cropped on me rather than full length (5 feet tall). My usual instinct is to go for the very neutral flax color but the “faded pistachio” is a muted olive that’s proving to be very versatile!
Fit-wise, the elastic waistband stretches to be a snug fit at my waist and the length works well with with sneakers and flats, too (see photo at the bottom of this post). The xxs petite in these pants measures 11.75″ across the elastic waist when not stretched and with a 23.5″ inseam. As expected with 100% linen, they do crease with wear as you can see in these photos.
2. Basket Bag (3 colors) – On sale
I’m a sucker for a good summer bag and this one comes in 3 neutral colors with great reviews. What I really like about this one compared to some of my other summer bags is that it has a lining with a small pocket inside, and a drawstring closure on the lining bag to keep your belongings secure!
3. Violeta Kitten Heel (4 colors) – On sale
I wasn’t sure about these because there weren’t any reviews, but am very happy with them and would highly recommend as a minimalist low heel sandal. If you had been eying these Reformation sandals, the J.Crew Violeta have a very similar look and are more comfortable for a fraction of the price. As much as I love the look of the Reformation sandals, the straps are thin and cut into my feet a bit. The straps on the J.Crew Violeta are a tad wider (without losing that sleek minimalist look) making them notably more comfortable. In terms of sizing, I’m usually between a 5 and 5.5 and found that the 5.5 in these fit me best.
4. Ribbed Beach Sweater (4 colors) – On sale
This sweater has that effortlessly slouchy cut great for wearing half-tucked with denim shorts, tied over your shoulders, and just simply with jeans. The ribbed knit is medium in weight, and the fit of xxs regular on me feels intentionally oversized and is not too long. I also like the two slits on the side and the relaxed drop shoulder!
A few other pieces shown in my “get dressed with me” Instagram video:
I read pages of happy reviews of this sweater tank and how great it is for lounging and layering, so had to order to try. When it arrived out of the package my mouth fell open a bit as it looked TINYY like it was made for a doll. It does have a lot of stretch and the xxs fits comfortably and is very cropped on me, more like a bralette than a tank. I’m also looking forward to trying it out for a layered look over button-up shirts (as seen on the model)!
I’ve mentioned these linen shorts before – they’re your basic everyday linen short with a relaxed cut through the leg and wide elastic waist band. If you’re looking for something a little shorter in length and not as loose in the leg, check out these seaside linen shorts.
Since I’m in flats these days more often than not, I love that the cropped length of these pants work well with flats and sneakers without any hemming needed!
Hi Jean! Any tips for doing a vacation with friends who don’t have kids? I’m sort of in the middle ground, where 2 out of the 5 ladies in my friend group have small children (0-3 years old) and the rest don’t. We’d love to do a group vacation with everyone, but I (as a childless person!) am not sure how to plan one.
That’s a good question! We haven’t traveled with friends since having kids, so I don’t have any personal experience to share here but would recommend looking into resorts. I think many offer child care options and programming that could give a nice balance for your group.
I like your style and especially your knowledge of petite women maybe something in a little older like 65 Thank you
Came upon extra petite on my morning feed LOVE IT!
Thank you, Jan!
I love your style!
I love your style and fit so much!! Super classic and not trendy. Also love that you show where to purchase the items without going to another site. I just wish that you would show what the outfits look like from behind. Just my 2 cents.
Thanks for the feedback!
