Understated holiday // black jumpsuit + faux fur

christmas or new years party outfit petite jumpsuit

Express jumpsuit xxs petite (this one is also fab & makes for easier restroom breaks), faux fur jacket xxs petite c/o, TB pumps 5, Chanel flap bag

As holiday parties and New Year’s Eve (eep!) are sneaking up on us, I’m kicking off this festive season with some options from Express. I found a few very petite friendly pieces that look more luxe than you’d expect for the affordable price tags! Petite sizes on this jumpsuit are going quickly, but I also tried on this elegant draped top jumpsuit (fully stocked) that fit me like a glove and features adjustable shoulder straps. The draped one is actually quicker and easier to get on and off during bathroom trips, since the straps can be slid off your shoulders.

To top off party looks, this popular faux fur jacket is back from last year in tons of colors. See it on me here in black, and you can recreate that full look with this year’s velvet dress (I preferred xxs regular to the petite for longer length). This jacket is so soft, and the petite sizing is a true shorter length on me that looks flattering with party dresses or high waisted bottoms. Black is always classic but the jewel tone green this year is something else!

I’m partnering with Express today to share my holiday Style Guide recommendations, and these sweater knit joggers are one of my top gifting picks. The xxs petite fit me well, and they were much thicker and cozier than I had expected plus have a matching top for a full on comfy ensemble. I shared a video on IG stories so hope some of you were able to grab that size before it sold out!

I have another post coming up with a holiday work-to-evening look from Express, but wanted to share a preview of some fit notes while pieces are fully in stock:

  • Ruched shoulder top: pretty, feminine piece that pairs easily with all sorts of bottoms. I tried on both petite and regular sizing and ended up taking an xxs regular. The style of this top is slightly cropped already with a ruched banded bottom (great for tucking into higher rise pants and skirts) so I didn’t need the petite sizing.
  • Bronze pleated skirt: surprisingly versatile, this is one of my favorites from Express this season. XXS measures 13″ across the elastic waistband and is midi length on me. I’ve paired it simply with a black turtleneck, wrap coat, black tights and booties for a casual dinner with friends. It also goes nicely with a satin or lace cami, or the ruched shoulder top mentioned above for a party look!
  • Velvet pencil skirt: This is light to medium weight, very stretchy and unlined. Fit runs small and I personally preferred the length of the xxs regular (very fitted on me) to the petite. Pairs nicely with the ruched shoulder top above or with a silky cami + faux fur jacket for an elegant evening look!

Thank you for all your helpful info. I’m a 4’9” 67 year old! At 110 pounds and age 67, I can’t wear the youthful clothes you rock. Still, we petite girls share many of the same challenges. You have given me lots of information and shopping sites that have widened my choices. I always like to look put together. One is never to old to be stylish! Power to Petites!

I am with you Anne. At 63 years old, some of the outfits are too “young” for me, even though I am 5’2″ and 108 lbs. But, I love this site and have gleaned many very helpful hints on where to look for stylish clothes.

I love that jumpsuit! I usually don’t even bother considering jumpsuits because they are never offered in petite sizes – did you have to get this one hemmed?

Jean, Where are those earrings from?

Hi! I was curious as to how you go about picking the clothing you recommend (which is always fabulous!) Do companies send you items to try on to see if you like them? Do you personally go to all of these stores (or order on the internet) for the selections you give us? And, do you keep everything or do you sometimes sell some of the items? Just wondering! Although I’m older than many of your other readers, I can still order a good deal of what you show us! I love being able to look at you and order an entire outfit, knowing it will look fabulous! recommend, and
