Casual Summer Style // Woven Mules + Linen Peplum

nantucket vacation style casual outfit petite fashion blog

Similar woven mules (see info below), Socialite top S worn w/ Bristols 6 stick ons, Articles of Society shorts 24 (current version)

This is a very simple outfit, but I like that the structured peplum adds waist-defining shape, while the smocked linen and wicker accessories add summertime texture! For a different vibe, I’d change up the bottoms with white chino shorts, olive skinny jeans, or a pair of cigarette trousers for a dressier look.

Woven Mules
Per requests, I’ve been trying to share a lot more outfits lately with flat shoes! Slip on mules have been a go-to option and I especially like that they’re a little more breathable in warm weather. Mine here by Schutz are sold out, but after much searching, I was able to find a very similar option that I tried on for fit and comfort. The Vince Camuto ones at Nordstrom start in sz 4 and are nice quality, and look very similar on the feet in a flattering neutral hue and elongating toe shape without being too pointy. Sizing runs TTS – I am usually between a 5 and 5.5 and tried on both, and preferred the 5.5 for more room around the opening area. I would stick to your usual size unless you have wider feet. You can see them here in the center row, left side.

Peplum top
I really adore this top and was pleasantly surprised by the price! Note it’s a thick linen-cotton blend fabric which I was personally drawn to, and the thickness is what helps the peplum part hold its flared structure and makes it look more fashion forward in my opinion. It is not a soft against the skin fabric, however I definitely don’t find it to be as rough and uncomfortable as the customer reviews mentioned (otherwise I wouldn’t be recommending it)! I’ve worn it half a dozen times already and the fabric doesn’t bother me, but if you’re looking for a soft tee shirt-like fabric, this top isn’t for you.

Fit wise, it runs a little small and short which works well for petites! I thought I got an XS, but just realized it’s actually a S and is a comfortable fit on me (an XS would be more shrunken fit). The smocked bodice has a lot of stretch, and there are two hidden buttons on each shoulder strap to adjust the strap length. In addition to my pairing suggestions above I have also worn this top with lightweight wide leg pants as well as a flowy skirt to dress it up further! Here’s another partial shot of it worn out to dinner with jeans.

Thank you to Nordstrom for partnering on this post. PS – If you’re shopping the Anniversary Sale, there’s been a couple of restocks and helpful customer reviews rolling in! You can see all of my Nsale reviews here for women, men & baby and I posted a few additional looks under InstaShop as well.

  1. Hi Jean! I am shopping for shorts and wondering if your pair came cuffed or if you rolled them up? I checked out the Nordstrom link above and the Articles of Society shorts have a frayed uncuffed edge – wasn’t sure if it was the same pair. Thanks!

That’s a cute top! I have always been attracted to peplum pieces but never actually bought any. I feel like they accentuate my waist which is not something I am fond of. I love that this one flares out and keeps it shape.

Thanks, Jules! It’s the Klint style by Janessa Leone in sz M. Pricey but I got it years ago and it’s still my favorite summer hat.

Hello! In different posts you’ve said the Klint hat is a size small, but in this one you mention it’s a medium. Was that a typo?

Sorry, I made a typo! Mine is actually size small but it’s pretty snug on me, if I were to reorder I might do a medium. I would suggest measuring your head and comparing with their size chart before ordering!

Hi Karen, I wish! Unfortunately it’s not on sale and a bit of a splurge but it’s the Klint style by Janessa Leone.
