Chevron swing dress + maternity chino pants

loft petite denim jacket casual spring outifts

LOFT dress xxs petite c/o on sale!, denim jacket xxs petite on sale!, mule sandals in “sandbar” sz 5 c/o (these are also adorable!)

When “text shopping” with my friends, LOFT favorites always come up in our lengthy chat threads. They carry a super inclusive range of sizing (petite, tall, plus, AND maternity in both regular and petite) so we can each find something that fit and flatters without breaking the bank. This is especially true now as I’m shopping for my changing figure, but still want access to the same cute and colorful styles!

They are having an amazing sale this weekend with 40% off + extra 10% off, plus free shipping on orders (use code HOORAY). If you’re placing an order, do yourself a favor and add one of these adorable (and nice quality) umbrellas to brighten up a rainy day – I got the border floral one!

A classic denim jacket is a spring-to-fall staple (and a travel must) – I picked up this one a while back as I wanted something slightly cropped in length. Fit is true to size and the wash is a medium-dark blue, with very minimal distressing despite the style name. There are two button tabs at the bottom back so you can actually make the waist look a little more fitted, if desired.

With the exception of bottoms, I’ve been trying to dress mostly in non-maternity pieces that I can continue enjoying long after pregnancy. LOFT tends to make a lot of tops and dresses in swingy, shift or A-line silhouettes, which can accommodate (or help hide – if that’s your goal earlier on!) a growing midsection. This knit navy & white chevron dress (unlined) will be cool and comfortable in the coming summer months. It also comes in maternity sizing, but I’m wearing my usual petite size here at 22 weeks.

Denim jacket in xxs petite: 13.5″ across shoulders, 16″ across underarms, 18″ length, 22″ sleeve length.
Chevron dress in xxs petite (loose fit): 14″ across underarms, 25″ across bottom hem, 31″ length.

And if you’re an expecting mama in need of new bottoms, I recently posted here about LOFT’s maternity jeans and work pants. For a casual pant alternative to denim, I also tried on these maternity chino pants that come in both olive and grey. A 0 petite (1 size up from my pre-pregnancy LOFT size) fits me well, with a slim straight cut throughout the leg that looks cute cuffed up! I’d style this simply with a knotted tee or A-line blouse, topped with a denim jacket.

    Hi there Jean,

Looking lovely as always (: I was wondering if you could do a haircare routine post. I find that my hair keeps getting damaged when using heat. How do you prevent this? Your hair looks lovely all the time!

Love the whole look! The coral shoes are the perfect exclamation point to the dress. For denim purists, Gap has a 100% cotton denim jacket with positive reviews. I found an old Gap one at a thrift shop that is great except I need the sleeves shortened (sighs). Anyone have any tips for DIY sleeve shortening? It looks tough because I’ll have to move the sleeve slit, cuff, and button up to maintain the same style.

Is the denim jacket a thick material? Been looking for a stretchy type of denim jacket that’s not so stiff and structured and thick if that makes sense?

    Hi Jean,

Could you comment on the measurement/fit of the Loft denim jacket? Is it fitted through the body and sleeves for you in the XXSP? There is only one comment under petite, but the reviews for the regular sizing seem to run big and looser, and I am looking for a fitted denim jacket. Thank you!

Hi KC – It’s fitted in the shoulders and torso for me, not super fitted in the sleeves but a pretty true to size fit overall in my opinion! It looked better than several other non-petite denim jackets I’ve tried on. I added some more info above about the jacket along with the measurements – hope that helps!
