This simple look was a recent favorite of mine, mixing pieces old and new, high and low. I’ve had this Nic + Zoe 4-way convertible cardigan for years, and originally showed several ways to style it back in this post! One of my favorite ways to wear it is actually wrapped more tightly around (as seen above) so it looks like a blouse, and secured by tucking the ends around my back into a high-waisted skirt. My cardigan here is the cotton blend one, which feels like a light sweater material, and this same cardigan also comes in a very lightweight linen blend material.
My H&M pencil skirt was last blogged here, styled with 4 different layering options for work! The color I’m wearing is sold out, but they have two darker pencil skirts (this new arrival or this one that’s going quickly) which fit similarly. The materials are usually more wrinkle-prone, but I can’t really complain given the fit and price points! H&M pencil skirts tend to run small and work for me without alterations needed – a size 2 usually fits smaller than most 00 petite skirts in American brands.
On the contrary, this sleeveless shell runs on the blousier side – sz 2 is roomy on me in the armholes and is longer in length. I also used a small safety pin to secure the neckline higher up. Despite the bigger fit, I got it for it’s versatility for layering under blazers and cardigans.
Here’s how the cardigan looks when worn open vs. loosely tied. Which way is your favorite? : )
I’m in love with your blog! Having just become an attorney in DC, I am constantly searching for effortless and cute professional outfits. You take all the work out of my search! About this one though… how do you prevent lines from the sweater showing through your skirt? I’ve tried this idea but never walked out the door because it was always obvious that I’d tucked the sweater or shirt in. Help!
So glad to have found someone who is petite. I have al say wondered how H&M clothing would fit! Love your blog!
This cardigan is so pretty, thanks for the inspo!
Perfect outfit for working women.
Thanks for sharing
I have the same J crew pumps and love them!!! I get a lot of compliments and they are so versatile. I like that the heel isn’t to high and the front is pointy which elongates the legs of petite gals. The same style pump comes in houndstooth pattern which is also another J crew favorite of mine.
Love the looks Jean 🙂
You are a genius for thinking to wear it as a top tucked in the skirt! Love the idea.

Hi Jean. Cardigans are so perfect for teachers, since temperatures in classrooms can be as versatile as the above cardigan 🙂
Thanks a lot for all the different styling ideas. I absolutely love the one where you have made a knot. Very original. Love, Lieske
The cardigan is so versatile, love the colour too! I love the way it looks as a blouse the most!

I think I saw you on Monday! I have been following your blog for a few years now, and have found a lot of inspiration from your style. I was just visiting Boston for the day and it was so nice to see you in person! You looked gorgeous in that outfit 🙂
I really like this classic workwear. Pencil skirts have been always my favorites.
Saw you on Chronicle! Great job.
Holy cow, the sweater tucked into the skirt just blew my mind. Definitely need to wear all of my cardigans like that now 😛
