Mama’s Fish House // Ruffle Stripe Maxi Dress + Vintage Bag

summer stripe maxi dress petite fashion blog

Banana Republic dress xxs petite (more colors), vintage Lesco Lona bag (similar), INC sandals sz 5.5 (reviewed here), Talbots sunglasses c/o

Ruffles, stripes, pockets and a waist tie – a combo after my own heart! I saw this dress on BR’s “coming soon” page a while back, and was hoping it’d be offered in petite sizes. I can usually rely on their petite maxis to not need any hemming, even with flat or low shoes (which means anyone taller might prefer their maxis in regular sizing). After finally trying this on, my only complaint is the torso is straight-cut and shapeless without the belt tie. When belted (also love this with either my brown leather or bright orange belt), I did like the overall look enough to keep it. I had a hard time getting the stripes to show up in these photos, but they’re definitely visible in person!

Everyone told us Mama’s Fish House was a “must do” in Maui … everyone except the locals who said it was overpriced ; ) Although I have to agree, I did think the setting was very cute with this little stretch of beach. We loved the cozy tables for two, with open windows overlooking this view.

If you do want to go to Mama’s, they tend to book up about a week in advance for dinner. The good news is, if you go at an off hour like we did (around 4 pm), you’ll probably get seated right away and get to leave with a beautiful sunset!

P.S. Love the one-shoulder maxi on you! Seriously, looks way better on you than it does on the BR website.

I also ended up going to Mama's Fish House earlier this week… the food is very expensive ($60 per entree) but absolutely delicious!

You can wear a strapless bra, but I like to wear a regular bra with just one of the straps tucked under or removed (if it's detachable), or you can just wear stick-on nipple covers that I've posted about before and really like.

I love those shoes, I hope they restock them in small sizes. I can't wait to try that restaurant! The picture next to that palm tree is perfect.

I love the maxi dress! Being petite too I always hesitate about buying maxi dresses, in fact I don't own any! I think they are going to make me shorter but then I look at your pics and they look amazing on you. I makes me think I should give them a try.
