Target is always a black hole for me…while Nick was loading up on bug spray and bike locks (to secure our luggage inside our open-top Jeep), I was drawn in by all the Hawaiian clothing (some not as tourist-tacky as you might expect), along with the fresh flower leis in the refrigerators! I saw some long Hawaiian dresses that were actually pretty cute, but I packed no shortage of maxis, and wanted something low-maintenance for embarking on the Road to Hana.

Most of Target’s women’s clothes run roomy and long, so this romper was an unexpected find. The elasticized waist fits comfortably and the proportions are very petite-friendly, plus the material is lightweight and easy to move around in. There are cute 3/4 length bell sleeves, which are just the right length for not being a nuisance at the sink while washing your hands. I especially appreciated the darker print pattern on this, since I wore it for hikes, rocky climbs, and also while splashing around at the base of waterfalls without thinking twice about unsightly stains! And unlike most of my other rompers, the neckline clasp is actually at a modest location and not too low.

Slide sandals are huge this season, and I can’t complain about a trend that’s practical and easy to wear! I searched high and low for ones that have a block heel, and in a tan color close to my skin tone. These Bar III slides were the only style I could find that were available in my size and fit the bill. The quality (faux suede uppers with harder soles) is nothing to write home about, but they did meet my other requirements and are pretty leg-flattering for such low heels. If you don’t mind a medium-height heel, I was eyeing these Chinese Laundry or Sam Edelman block-heeled slides in genuine suede, both starting in sizes 5/5.5.

I can’t wait to share more pictures from the Road to Hana soon, and some of our thoughts and lessons learned from the journey!

Hi Joanne – Yes we drove it ourselves. I'm sure you know this already but a jeep rental is definitely recommended if you want to do the full loop around (even though the rental agreements usually don't cover issues going around that way). And I don't think boots are necessary, but some sort of footwear with traction soles and that will stay securely on your feet is good (ie. not flip flops!). I wore my sneakers for the hikes and climbs down to the waterfalls, and saw many people with watershoes or strapped hiking sandals.

I love this summer dress, the pattern is amazing. The pineapple reminded me of animated movies from my childhood, there was a woman wearing a pineapple on her hat 😉
