Happy Sunday, friends! It’s been crickets on here and my IG due to weeks of visitors followed by sick kids at home. Everyone is finally recovered and back in school, and the gears are in motion for a grownups-only trip to Paris that I’m really looking forward to!
The Denim Trouser
These are a few looks I posted last month on IG but didn’t get to share in more detail. I’ve talked a lot about various alternative denim styles to try when branching out from slim / skinny denim – a wide crop style (like the Madewell PVJ crop or the J.Crew slim-wide) remains a top go-to since they work with flats, but if you don’t mind heels once in a while, the denim trouser is such a chic and flattering style to try!
They’re great for whenever you want to wear jeans but also feel a little more dressed up, and also for offices that allow denim. I personally like to style them with pieces that highlight the waistline, such as a tucked-in fitted top, a shorter sweater or cropped top as pictured below.
3 Denim Trouser Options for Petites
One of the first denim trousers I owned are the Gap stride jeans which run on the bigger and long side for petites, and are loose & long on me in their smallest size 24 petite. They first caught my eye immediately on a friend, so I do think they’re worth checking out if you can get the right size for you.
My latest pair from J.Crew are these sailor denim trousers, which are SO cute down to the wide hem detail. I’m usually a 00 petite in J.Crew pants and ended up sizing down on these to 23 petite for a snug fit. These come in 3 more washes here without the sailor pockets – I tried on the blue and found it to fit very similarly, although I could potentially do either 23 or 24 petite in that wash. These are long but not as long as the Gap, and I can wear ’em comfortably with my 3+ inch heels.
A newer style that’s caught my eye are the Madewell Harlow jeans, a denim take on their popular trouser! These have been backordered so I can’t speak to how they fit, but would guess I might size down to a 23 petite based on how their Harlow pants fit me loosely.
These jeans are so flattering on you, Jean! I’m waiting for them to come back in stock…meanwhile, another option for petites, Anthropologie’s Maeve line has similar jeans with a bit of a narrower (vertically narrower) hem and the standard inseam is cropped, which = regular length for petites! I’m 5’4″ and they hit at mid-ankle on me. I hope this helps others who are on the search for this style!
Thank you Leslie! And thanks so much for that tip, I’ll have to check out that style!
I’m short hard to find clothes to fit me here I can
Hi Rosemarie, I’m so glad!
every outfit with these jeans is with heels. so the styling is not very varied.
As mentioned above since these trouser jeans are a longer style, I can only wear them with heels! But depending on your height, some ppl in the reviews can wear them with flats.
Great looks for petites
Thank you
When a short woman wears jeans or pants with a thick hem like that, it cuts off her length n makes her look even shorter. The hem of the Jean or pants should be very thin all the way to.the bottom.
