Along with the heat of summer comes the struggle of dressing for two extremes – cool enough for sweltering outdoor temps, yet warm enough to withstand blasting AC indoors. Nick keeps the house pretty icy these days, so I made the poor decision of heading out in these lightweight wool pants and was met with a sauna. I definitely need to pick up a new pair in this same “Martie” cut, but in their more summer-friendly cotton material!
I got several questions on this eyelet lace dress from Snapchat so wanted to post a few more pics. It’s sturdily made in a thicker 100% cotton material, lined in the areas that need it, and has a flattering “Betty Draper” silhouette with two side pockets. It’s a difficult decision between the classic navy and sprightly orange!
Measurements of a 00p: 15″ across the armpit, 12.5″ across the waist, 35″ total length. It’s labeled dry-clean only, but as it’s 100% cotton, I plan on washing this at home and just keeping it out of the dryer (if you need it to fit smaller, I’m guessing this will shrink a bit in the dryer if you watch it carefully). I agree with the online review that you can take this dress from work to date night, by un-doing a few buttons!
I finally got to try on this BR floral top mentioned in a prior post, and unfortunately the fit didn’t work out for me. The neckline was low on me, but didn’t look quite right with the straps taken up. I ended up keeping this similar one from Modcloth instead in size S, which I did get taken up at the shoulder straps (one of my favorite minor alterations – this effectively raises the neckline, makes the armholes smaller, and shortens the total length all at once). It’s hand-washable and is fully lined, so no worries about sheerness.
Yellow pumps are one of those accessories that can definitely brighten up a simple outfit! I used them here to bring out very subtle pops of a similar shade in the centers of the printed flowers. My shoes are very old, but I found similar yellow suede pumps here starting in size 5 (I have the Carra pumps in another color, size 5.5) or here starting in a rare size 4 (nice to see Lord & Taylor starting to carry this size!).
Hey Jean, the yellow pumps you have on are they the Elsie pumps from J Crew, 3.5 inch heel? they are gorgeous.
Lovely photos

Jason Markk shoe cleaner is amazing. I think they've started selling their product at Nordstrom or you can buy directly from their website.
I really adore the lace dress. I've been looking for the perfect one for some time now.

I love that navy eyelet dress! I'd definitely go with navy over orange (in keeping with Elle Wood's advice). I can totally related on struggling to dress for indoor and outdoor summer temps. My office is always freezing so I have to keep a lot of layers on hand.

Hi Jean! I love that you are featuring that Gucci Disco bag – I almost bought a red one here in Vegas last week… (splurged for a cool new Chanel WOC instead), but still seemingly needing that Gucci but I can't decide on the neutral color you show here vs a bright red. Do you think it will get dirty easily? I have the same AT work tote in nude (thanks to your post a few years back) and I LOVE it! Best neutral purchase ever because the Vegan leather wipes clean. Wonder if the neutral Gucci will hold up as well or if I should go for something darker. Regardless, that bag is so darn practical/easy/happy! 🙂 Love your posts. Keep doing what you do!
The blue dress is so beautiful! X

I absolutely loved how you styled the Ann Taylor dress. I was debating on whether or not to purchase but now I really need it in my wardrobe. Amazing looks!

Love the look you put together for that dress and the peplum top! Even though it makes me slightly nervous, I also machine wash some of my dry clean only pieces depending on the fabric.

I love how your outfits are always interesting. Every single one. They're always nice photos…but the composition of outfits themselves are just always on point. Can you share your secret??? Or is there a formula??
